Chapter 647: Close to Breakthrough

If Mismagius’s illusion skill could be broken so easily, it would be a disgrace to Nightmare Island’s treasure trove.

“Absol!”

Seeing Absol shrouded in black smoke and showing a panicked, terrified expression, Astrid was imdiately shocked.

“Snap out of it, Absol…!”

“Let

see the bond between you two.” Looking at the opposing Trainer, Terrance spoke with a smile.

“Damn it…”

Seeing Absol being restrained in just one round, Astrid felt a chill all over her body. That Trainer with the ga Charizard had defeated it before, but even then, it had never felt this eerie.

“Interesting.” The next mont, Astrid cald down. Losing composure in battle was never a good habit.

“If that’s how it is, don’t regret this. Absol, use ga Evolution!”

Touching the earring-like Key Stone with her left hand, Astrid wore a serious expression. In the next mont, a powerful bond connected her and Absol. Surrounded by illusions, Absol’s heart instantly cald down.

The power of ga Evolution broke straight through the Fear Illusion created by Mismagius, bringing it back to clarity.

Dazzling light enveloped Astrid’s Absol. In just a short mont, Absol underwent a massive transformation, and its new form appeared before Terrance and Mismagius.

“Not bad, right? This is ga Absol,” Astrid said with a smile.

“It does look strong,” Terrance said. “In that case, I’ll show my full power too.”

As he spoke, Mismagius’s whole body emitted a terrifying aura. Spurred by the totem aura, the fear energy that had transford into potential and rged into its body materialized again into purple runes, swirling around Mismagius and resonating with the totem aura. This sight made Akon close his notebook with a snap and focus entirely on the battle.

“This is…” Astrid’s expression was full of surprise.

“Mismagius, use Shadow Ball!” Terrance ordered.

This battle was mainly to give Mismagius an evenly-matched opponent to spar with.

“ga Absol, use Psycho Cut!!”

Seeing Mismagius suddenly erupt with overwhelming power, Astrid’s pupils contracted, and she gave the command quickly.

Purple blades and a purple shadowy orb clashed instantly in front of the two Pokémon!

Boom!!

The smoke from the explosion blocked the view of both Trainers, but their commands didn’t stop. The intense battle continued. Terrance no longer had Mismagius use its illusion skills but instead engaged the opponent head-on with offensive moves. Part of it was to train Mismagius’s offensive capabilities; another part was to allow the two Pokémon to fight for a longer duration.

Shadow Ball, Mystical Fire, Thunderbolt, Power Gem, Magical Leaf…

These old and newly learned offensive moves were now combined together by Mismagius into a complete offensive build.

Though Mismagius’s main strength still lay in its illusion skills, with its growing power, its use of other moves had also beco formidable.

With perfect energy control, Mismagius quickly gained the upper hand in battle, suppressing ga Absol.

“Tired already?”

Three minutes passed. Watching ga Absol run around under constant bombardnt from Mismagius, Terrance’s eyes flickered. It was ti to finish this.

“Use the illusion skill,” Terrance said.

Whoosh!

Receiving the command, Mismagius’s red gemstone lit up and the runes transford into soundwaves that swept outward like a rolling shockwave. The sheer force of it even made ga Absol’s fur stand on end.

“Absol!!” Astrid exclaid in shock.

At that mont, ga Absol stood dazedly in place. Its tired consciousness was directly eroded by the waves of Mismagius’s illusion skills, causing its mind to be on the verge of collapse.

Thud!

The fusion of Darkness and Chaos illusion skill, combined with ntal stimulation, caused ga Absol to collapse on the spot!

“Absol is unable to battle, so the winner is Terrance…” Akon announced.

After several rounds, ga Absol had been constantly suppressed until it was disrupted by the illusion skill and lost the ability to fight. Seeing the final mont, Akon, acting as referee, quickly declared the result without any doubt.

As Absol fell to the ground, the glow around its body dissipated, and it involuntarily exited its ga Evolution form.

Defeated by a Pokémon that hadn’t even learned ga Evolution…

Looking at Terrance and Mismagius, Astrid couldn’t suppress the confusion rising in her heart.

That day, Terrance and Akon found another Trainer who had mastered the power of ga Evolution. This one possessed a ga Pinsir.

Similarly, Terrance and Akon issued a battle invitation, and Terrance faced off against them using Mismagius.

The battle strategy remained unchanged. Mismagius would start by using conventional ans of attack.

Generally speaking, even if the opponent had the power of ga Evolution, their strength would not surpass that of Totem Mismagius. So even using moves Mismagius wasn’t skilled at, Terrance and Mismagius wouldn’t be at a disadvantage.

However, the battle usually still ended with Mismagius demonstrating its illusion skills.

Continuing in this manner, seeking out the next opponent beca the main task for Terrance and Akon.

Two days later.

Terrance had already challenged four Trainers who possessed the power of ga Evolution, spanning three cities.

“Akon, Rotom Pokédex, how’s it looking?” Terrance asked them while calling out Mismagius.

Having just gone through a tough battle against a ga Venusaur, Mismagius had sustained considerable injuries, but it also gained a lot of things from this battle.

“The last two battles were intense for Mismagius. Based on our analysis, it should have accumulated enough experience by now and should be fully capable of assimilating the fear energy.”

Akon compared his own recorded data with the data logged by the Rotom Pokédex and frowned.

“That’s the guess, but as for the specifics—Mismagius, how do you feel?”

“Mismagius” Mismagius hesitated for a mont, then indicated it felt very close to fully mastering the power.

“Still a little bit short, huh… Alright, take a break for now. Striking a balance between fight and rest is important, and it’s a good chance to reflect on the experiences gained from your previous battles.” Terrance stroked his chin. Over the past two days, Mismagius had fought many tis, and the opponents weren’t weak. It had gained a wealth of combat experience, which would surely benefit its growth.

“Mismagius”

Mismagius responded, and Terrance recalled it into its Poké Ball. He then fell into deep thought. Each battle over the past two days had helped Mismagius improve, which was evident even from the data. But it still wasn’t quite enough for a qualitative change.

While quantitative change can lead to qualitative change… it seed that pinpointing that mont of qualitative change was not so easy.

From here on, it was up to Mismagius itself.

“Let’s keep challenging Trainers. As for the Pokémon… I’ll switch to Castform…”

Beautifly’s breakthrough mainly depended on refining its techniques. It was still in the exploratory stage, and not too reliant on battles. Altaria’s strength had already far surpassed the others, so Terrance planned to have it stick to routine training for now. Gallade needed to reflect on its attack strategies, which also required ti and comprehension on its own. As for Arcanine, although it benefited from battle, without enough supply of Potions or access to the full services of a Pokémon Center, Terrance didn’t plan to have it undergo high-intensity battles for the ti being.

So, the only option left was to focus on honing Castform’s weather-based moves. Going forward, Terrance planned to challenge every Trainer he ca across. There were too few Trainers with ga Evolution power anyway, so getting more battle experience wouldn’t hurt. It was the perfect opportunity to sharpen Castform’s Sunny Weather state and its weakest move—Sandstorm.
