"Really?" Gigi Sutton asked.
"Really." Jasper Ford was feeling overwheld. He said, "How about this, I’ll call Serena right now and you can listen, okay?"
"I haven’t sent out any ssages since I sat down, so asking her directly is like a surprise attack. It’s real enough, right?" Jasper said.
Gigi Sutton finally nodded, but still looked at him with caution.
Jasper Ford took out his phone and dialed Serena’s number, putting it on speaker.
Soon enough, Serena picked up the call.
"Jasper? Is sothing wrong?" Serena’s voice ca through.
Jasper glanced at Gigi Sutton and said, "Oh, it’s nothing really, just about tonight’s dinner with Aether."
"What’s up?" Serena asked, "I rember you said you’re bringing your girlfriend?"
Jasper glanced at Gigi Sutton.
Gigi, who had been wary the whole ti, finally relaxed a little.
"Yeah, I wanted to ask if there’s anything I should be aware of since you guys haven’t t her yet." Jasper, of course, didn’t ntion that he was being suspected.
Serena quickly replied, "Just see what kind of food she likes and if she’s allergic to anything. We can’t let her feel left out just because of business with Aether."
Serena scolded, "Only thinking to ask about this now! We need to keep it comfortable for our own, not like the drinking parties you used to attend."
"Got it, got it, my bad." Jasper quickly said, and after a brief chat, he ended the call.
After the call ended, Jasper looked at Gigi Sutton nervously.
If she still didn’t believe him, he was out of options.
But now Gigi Sutton’s expression was very complex.
She opened her mouth as if to say sothing but hesitated.
Jasper grew anxious just watching her.
"Gigi, you don’t still disbelieve this, do you? I didn’t say anything, it was all her!" Jasper felt a bit wronged.
"No, it’s not that..." Gigi Sutton’s anger had subsided. She thought for a bit, lowered her voice, and said, "I just want to say, why do you act so submissively in front of her?"
Jasper knew the crisis had passed, so he rolled his eyes and said, "What do you think? They say she’s our golden goose."
Saying this, Jasper wiped his forehead, saying with a pitiful look, "See, I was so worried I broke into a sweat."
Gigi Sutton realized she was in the wrong, feeling a bit embarrassed, she said, "Jasper, I’m sorry... I heard so rumors..."
"It’s okay." Jasper thought a little bit of drama might be good. If Gigi Sutton didn’t react to the rumors, that would be a problem.
Now everything’s been clarified.
He smiled, taking a cat-ear pendant to fasten onto Gigi’s bag.
"Alright then, we’ll go together later." Jasper said, "You’ll like her. Serena is different from what the rumors say; she’s our lucky star."
"Hmm." Gigi Sutton nodded with a smile.
She looked down at the pendant on her bag, fiddling with it a bit.
Quite cute.
...
Serena put down her phone, feeling that sothing was off.
However, she didn’t dwell on it too much. Since Jasper hadn’t said anything, it shouldn’t be an issue.
She was more focused on the upcoming plans.
Serena gazed out the window thoughtfully.
Ti passed slowly.
It soon ca ti for their dinner gathering.
The Hawthorne Group had so issues; Silas Hawthorne would be coming a bit late.
So, Serena arrived earlier with Seraphina in tow.
At that mont, she was listening to Seraphina talk about what she had learned during the day, paying attention to the amount of stress school placed on her.
The two of them also chatted about many other fun things, sharing laughter as mother and daughter.
Just then, Jasper Ford pushed the door open, bringing Gigi Sutton along.
"Uncle Ford!" Seraphina called sweetly.
Jasper Ford nodded with a smile: "Good evening, Seraphina."
Serena stood up to greet them and noticed Gigi Sutton standing a bit awkwardly in the back. She smiled and said, "Are you Jasper’s girlfriend, Miss Sutton?"
Gigi Sutton nodded and said, "You can call Gigi, just like Jasper does."
Serena smiled, "Alright, Gigi, you can call Serena or just Serena."
As she spoke, she glanced at Seraphina.
"Hello, Aunt Gigi." Seraphina imdiately greeted.
Gigi Sutton looked at Seraphina curiously.
She’d heard all kinds of gossip about Serena adopting a young girl.
People said the girl was quite strange, having stayed in a welfare ho, and was very sullen.
But she seed so cute, completely different from what she’d heard.
"Seraphina?" Gigi Sutton walked over and handed the gift she brought to Seraphina, saying, "Auntie got you a gift."
Seraphina glanced at Serena, who nodded.
"Thank you, Aunt Gigi." Seraphina took it, then reached into her pocket for sothing, pulling out a box and handing it to Gigi Sutton.
Seraphina said, "This is what Mom and I picked out. Mom said that Uncle Ford’s girlfriend must be a gentle and beautiful lady who would likely enjoy this."
Gigi Sutton instinctively looked at Serena.
Serena was smiling at her.
Her eyes were clear, her expression sincere.
This made Gigi Sutton feel a bit awkward.
So she reached out and accepted the gift from Seraphina. Opening the box, she saw it was a Hers scarf.
Its colors were soft; it was exactly the one she’d always wanted.
But she’d never told anyone about it.
Surprised, she raised her eyes to look at Serena.
"I hope you like it," Serena said, a bit embarrassed.
She wasn’t sure what to gift, but rembered Jasper ntioning he and Gigi were at a Hers store once, so she figured Gigi might like the brand and chose this scarf.
Only then did Gigi Sutton snap back to reality, glancing at Jasper Ford.
"Take it. Serena and Seraphina picked it for you," Jasper said, going to tease Seraphina.
"Thank you," Gigi Sutton said softly, looking down at the scarf in the box, feeling unsure of what to think.
Before long, Brandon Huxley and Eric Grant arrived.
As they chatted about the 1.5 billion, Gigi Sutton felt a bit out of place and looked at Jasper Ford, saying quietly, "Should I step aside for a bit?"
Serena, sitting nearby, heard and shook her head, saying, "No worries, we’re all good friends here."
The people Jasper brought could be trusted.
If there were issues, he wouldn’t have brought them.
"So, Serena, what’s your plan?" Brandon Huxley asked.
Serena looked at Brandon, saying, "My decision depends on you all."
This is why she wanted everyone to gather and have a proper discussion.
"Brandon, do you have anyone particularly you want to bring in?" Serena asked.
Brandon shook his head and said, "No."
He snorted and said, "To be honest, I set the 1.5 billion just to slap their faces."
"I haven’t forgotten what happened at Aether that day!"
One by one, they kept their distance from Aether, one by one they demanded explanations from him, pushing him, ridiculing him, threatening him.
Why let them off so lightly!
