The lights in the tea room were softly warm, and the aroma of tea continued to emanate from the table nearby.
Serena Sterling lowered her gaze to look at Julian Lawson in front of her.
He was kneeling here, his once proud head now bowed.
He kept his head down, not saying a word.
Silas Hawthorne, watching this scene from the side, furrowed his eyebrows.
Silas pursed his lips and looked at Serena next to him, then turned away, walking to a corner of the room, where he could still keep an eye on things to prevent any surprises, yet also give the two so space to talk.
He sat there, inspecting the various teas placed in the tea room, pretending as if he hadn’t seen anything just monts ago.
On the other side, Julian Lawson listened to Silas’s footsteps retreating, and he clenched his hands tightly.
"Please," he said.
"Forgive , won’t you?" His voice was choked with emotion.
He raised his head to look at the Serena Sterling in front of him, humble and vulnerable.
In his eyes was a sadness she had never seen before, and his voice was full of pleading.
The trees in the courtyard swayed gently in the wind, and the sunlight cast their shadows on the two of them, flickering.
"Nora..." he called her na, his eyes rimd with red.
"It was my fault back then."
He said sorrowfully, "That day... I didn’t know I had lost our child..."
He couldn’t continue.
His eyes reddened further, and Julian Lawson closed them in pain.
"It was wrong of , and I never visited you afterwards either." He reached out, grasping Serena’s hand.
Julian reopened his eyes, speaking softly, "Give another chance, let make ands for everything, will you?"
Serena shifted her gaze from Julian’s figure to the tea on the table beside them.
"It’s too late," Serena said quietly.
Everything that happened once cannot be undone.
What was lost cannot be regained.
Too many things lie between them, and they can never return to what they were.
Her hand was squeezed tighter.
Serena lowered her eyes slightly, looking back at Julian Lawson.
This was the first ti she saw him so humble.
He looked like a little dog begging for rcy.
Completely different from the proud Julian Lawson of before.
She said, "Julian Lawson, between the two of us lies a life."
She shifted her gaze to his hand holding hers, and softly said, "Let go."
"A long ti ago, we already ca to an end."
But Julian shook his head.
He wanted to rack his brains to find sothing to say, but soone who had never bowed their head couldn’t find the right words.
Even though at this mont, he was sincere, wanting to do everything to win her back.
The bleeding her, the child they lost...
She was right; between them lay the life of their child.
"We..." Julian finally spoke after a long ti, his voice hoarse, and softly said, "Nora, we... we can make up for the past; let’s have a third child, shall we?"
Serena’s nose tingled, her eyes rimd with red.
Julian said, "We can start over, this ti, let love you properly. I’ll be good to you, good to our child, I swear by everything I have."
The wind blew in through the window, gently brushing against the two.
The wind swayed Serena’s hair, letting it fall slightly, and the white strands Silas had helped tuck away also fell.
The few white strands among the black hair gently danced in the wind.
"You..." Julian looked at the white strands, his heart aching.
He reached out his hand to try to touch her white hair.
"Julian, I don’t want to have children with you anymore." She stopped his hand.
"Nora..." His voice trembled.
"Don’t think about these things anymore," Serena said with compassion, "Wish and him well, will you?"
"Just like I let go and wished you and Vera Hansen well back then."
"Julian Lawson, what I can do, you can too."
"I can’t!" Julian said, tears cascading down his cheeks, "Nora, I can’t do it."
Seemingly recalling sothing, he said, "Nora, do you rember our beginning?"
"Our seven years."
"Once, we were happy; you once said, ’Julian, I’ll be with you...’"
"But you haven’t called that in a long ti."
"Can you say it one more ti?"
Serena looked at Julian.
Seven years.
How many seven years does one have in life?
But she had already made up her mind.
She no longer wanted to retrace her steps.
"I can’t," Serena said softly, "Julian Lawson, I once loved you and once wanted to spend a lifeti with you."
"But that was back then."
Julian moved closer, "It can be sothing from the past; it can be sothing in the future. As long as we start over, love can return, children can happen again, we..."
"That’s not possible," Serena interrupted Julian.
She took a deep breath.
"Even if there were children, it wouldn’t be with you," Serena said.
For a mont, Julian didn’t know what to say.
The next mont, Serena spoke: "I did it with him."
"What?" Julian couldn’t grasp the aning of her words.
Not believe it?
Serena lowered her eyes slightly, tugging at her collar with her other hand.
She revealed the marks left on her by Silas Hawthorne last night in their frenzy together.
Julian looked at those marks, his eyes turning scarlet.
Serena released the collar and lifted her clothes to let him see the marks on her waist.
"Do you see?" she said.
Julian gritted his teeth, unable to speak.
He could only watch her, his emotions collapsing.
He wanted to say she lied to him.
But in his heart, he understood, she was telling the truth.
Actually, he always knew that this day would co sooner or later.
It was him who couldn’t let go.
It was him who was unwilling to think about it.
Julian’s eyes were terrifyingly red, and Serena looked at him with compassion.
"Julian Lawson, you can still find soone better, move forward,"
she said, "I will move forward with him, and you... need to look ahead too."
"I am already weary, and I no longer want to dwell on the past."
Serena withdrew her hand from his.
Looking at his pitiful expression.
She said, "Julian, he treats very well."
"Really well."
With that, Serena turned her back to him, heading toward Silas Hawthorne.
Silas watched her approach, putting away the tea leaves back on the shelf.
He stood up to greet Serena.
"Finished talking?" Silas asked warmly.
In truth, he had heard everything, though they were separated by so distance, they were ultimately in the sa space.
But he intended to pretend he hadn’t heard.
If everything could be regarded as the past, then what’s the harm in pretending to be deaf for a mont?
"Mm," Serena nodded.
She looked at his gentle appearance, reached out, and proactively held his hand.
"Let’s go back," she said.
"Alright," Silas said, extending his other hand to help tidy her hair.
He smiled at her.
