Julian Lawson and Ian Yates rushed to the sanatorium.
I have to handle so matters first, Ian said as he left, leaving Julian to navigate the corridors alone to the hospital ward that Secretary Chaucer had inford him of previously.
Secretary Chaucer was stationed outside the door, and upon seeing Julian arriving, he imdiately stood up.
"President Lawson."
Julian nodded, asking him, "What’s the current situation?"
Jude Chaucer thought for a mont and clarified, "After Young Master Yates and I cut Vera Hansen’s livestream, I thought she shouldn’t stay at The Hillside Villa anymore, so I took her to an apartnt nearby."
"I was persuading her to tell the truth, and then she cut her hand."
Jude Chaucer was genuinely frightened.
Vera had clearly prepared for so ti and pulled out a knife instantly; Jude Chaucer even thought she was going to stab him.
"After coming here, the doctor treated her wound," Secretary Chaucer said. "Her injury has stopped bleeding, and the nurse is with her now, except..."
Julian understood Jude Chaucer’s implication.
He acknowledged this and said, "Find her previous attending doctor and go to the records departnt to print out her files and bring them over."
Secretary Chaucer visibly breathed a sigh of relief, stood up imdiately, responded affirmatively, and hurried to carry out the task.
After Secretary Chaucer left, Julian pushed open the door.
In the single ward, Vera Hansen was half-reclined on the hospital bed, her wrist wrapped in layers of gauze faintly tinged with red spots of blood.
The nurse was sitting beside her, peeling an apple.
Vera looked pale. Upon hearing a sound, she gazed towards the door; confirming it was Julian, she forced a smile.
"Brother Julian, you’re here." She said weakly, "I thought you wouldn’t co to see anymore."
Julian remained silent and looked at her coldly.
He strode to Vera’s bedside, not addressing her directly, instead asking the nurse, "What dicine is she on now?"
The nurse stood up respectfully, saying, "Miss Hansen was given a sedative earlier; she’s temporarily on glucose now, and her attending doctor will adjust the dication upon arrival."
Glucose.
Julian glanced at Vera.
Vera still wore that forlorn expression.
Inside Julian was a cold sneer.
"You may leave now," Julian said to the nurse.
The nurse nodded, placing the apple on a nearby plate, turning to exit, and closing the door behind her.
Julian sat on the side, staring at Vera.
Vera felt uneasy under his gaze, but recalling her plan, she gradually steadied herself.
"Do you have anything you want to say to ?" Julian began, "Or any truth you want to confess?"
Vera contemplated briefly, guessing it was about The Hillside Villa incident.
Therefore, she pouted, tears streaming down her face instantly.
"Brother Julian, I know I shouldn’t have gone live at The Hillside Villa without your permission."
She had been brewing her emotions and now Julian’s arrival served her purpose well.
"But Young Master Yates’ apartnt had a plumbing issue, so that’s why I went there."
Suddenly, she sat upright, clutching Julian’s hands tightly, sobbing, "I didn’t know about the situation there, nor did I know about the wedding photos or your..."
"Brother Julian, I didn’t do it on purpose, I’m sorry."
Her tears fell one by one on Julian’s hand, appearing very pitiable.
"I didn’t know it would hurt her, I’m remorseful, I’ve thought for so long, I can’t stand myself like this, thus I..."
"I’m sorry."
Vera acted with both tears and voice.
She had long prepared the folding knife, deliberately cutting her hand in front of Secretary Chaucer.
She knew Jude Chaucer would definitely step in to stop her, so she naturally wasn’t going to cut too deeply.
rely nicked so skin before Jude Chaucer halted her, leaving her only needing to cry.
She cried even harder: "I’m causing you all trouble even with hurting myself."
As Vera cried, she cautiously observed Julian’s expression.
However, ever since entering, Julian’s deanor had not changed, maintaining the sa cold attitude.
Vera was pondering this when suddenly Julian laughed.
He actually laughed aloud.
His laughter rendered Vera baffled.
"Brother Julian?" Vera ekly queried, sniffing.
"Enjoying your performance?" Julian mocked as he stared coldly at Vera.
He had just given Vera the final opportunity, waiting for her confession.
But at this point, she continued her deceit.
This crude acting indeed amused him.
Made him laugh at her, and laugh at his own idiocy.
"Brother Julian, I don’t understand what you an," Vera said fearfully but continued crying.
"Don’t understand?" Julian’s laughter ceased, leaving only coldness.
"Knock, knock!"
The ward door was knocked, and Jude Chaucer entered, handing a docunt folder and another stack of sothing to Julian.
"President Lawson, the files you requested," he said, "The people are on their way, they’ll arrive shortly."
In his hand was another file, which Jude Chaucer hesitated whether to give to Julian.
It was sothing he inadvertently obtained from the records departnt.
The chap in the records departnt was sloppy and pulled out two files for him.
One was Vera Hansen’s file, the other...
Was Miss Sheridan’s file.
Once they finished handling matters here, he’d hand this file to President Lawson separately.
Thinking this, Secretary Chaucer bowed slightly and then turned to exit, closing the door.
The ward was left with only Julian and Vera again.
Julian tossed the file onto the hospital bed.
Vera wiped her tears, looking at the docunt folder.
"Brother Julian, what is this?" Vera didn’t reach to open the docunt folder.
"Your dical records," Julian said coldly.
Then he threw the additional stack of items that Secretary Chaucer had delivered onto her bed.
"What is this then?"
"An analysis report I commissioned," Julian said tersely, "Vera, will you continue pretending? You’re not sick at all!"
Vera’s heart skipped a beat, but she soon realized Julian was referring to her depression, and relaxed slightly.
"I don’t know what you’re talking about, Brother Julian," she cried.
Then she grabbed the stack and dical records, tossing them aside.
"Brother Julian, did Serena Sterling say sothing to you?" Vera’s eyes expressed defiance, "She’s slandering !"
Ha...
Julian laughed.
"She’s never ntioned you to from start to end."
In fact, she wasn’t even willing to talk to him!
"Vera, what do you take Julian Lawson for?!" Julian’s eyes were bloodshot as he fixated on Vera.
"To deceive ?"
"To threaten !"
He, due to Vera’s feigned weakness and fake depression, ignored the nurous harms she directed at Serena Sterling!
Even indulged her!
Ti and again!
