This night is destined to be long.

Amidst the storm brewing online, Serena soaked in a bath upon returning to her rented apartnt, then donned a nightdress and stepped onto the balcony for so fresh air.

May nights have a breeze, but they are also comfortable.

Serena checked her phone and saw a new ssage.

[I’m Silas Hawthorne, here’s my number, please save it.]

Serena could almost picture Silas sitting at a desk typing out this ssage.

Such an old-fashioned way of doing things.

But she was sitting here not in anticipation of this ssage.

After a while, Serena’s phone vibrated.

She glanced at it; it was Isla calling.

She thought for a mont and decided to answer.

"What’s the matter?" Serena asked.

"Serena, my brother is sick." Isla’s angry voice ca through, "He’s all alone in the hospital, aren’t you going to co see him?"

Serena slightly furrowed her brows and said, "Didn’t he tell you?"

"Tell what?" Isla was still very angry.

Serena thought for a mont, recalling Caleb Lawson’s image.

"It’s nothing," Serena said.

Perhaps he needs a few days to tell the Lawsons about their divorce.

In this failed marriage, Old Master Lawson treated her well, so it’s best to let Julian explain himself, although if Julian keeps quiet, she wouldn’t hide it.

"Serena, you..."

Without waiting for Isla to finish, Serena interrupted, "I know he’s sick. Alright, I have things to do."

With that, she hung up the call directly.

For such an accusatory inquiry, she felt no need to respond further.

Isla kept calling, so Serena set Isla’s number to do-not-disturb.

Then, Serena continued to wait.

She leaned against the long lounge chair, gazing at the city lights.

This city is always so busy, even at midnight, it remains brightly lit.

Finally...

"Buzz buzz..."

Serena’s phone vibrated again.

Serena looked down; it was Old Master Lawson calling.

She took a deep breath, cald herself, and answered the phone.

"Grandpa Lawson," Serena spoke warmly.

"Serena." Caleb’s voice sounded old and weary; he didn’t notice she’d added "Lawson" before "Grandpa."

After calling her na, Caleb didn’t speak imdiately but sighed before saying, "What’s going on between you and Julian?"

Serena didn’t know how to answer.

"I know you’re angry, because of that Vera Hansen!" Caleb’s voice held evident anger when ntioning Vera Hansen, "Your grandmother said she would go and handle Vera Hansen one day!"

A nearby elderly female voice chid in: "Yes, Serena, we thought that rascal would handle it himself, but now it seems he’s truly clueless! I’m going to deal with Vera Hansen myself!"

Clearly, it was the old lady.

Serena felt conflicted, both touched and helpless.

She’s already divorced Julian Lawson.

Furthermore, she has no intention of remarrying.

So, whether the old lady deals with Vera Hansen or not is of no concern to her.

Thinking this, Serena said, "It’s unnecessary."

"Serena..."

"There are so things Julian hasn’t told you yet," Serena said tactfully, "So things he’s supposed to tell you later."

There was silence from the other end for a few seconds, and then Caleb asked, "Serena, is there a problem between you two?"

Serena looked up at the stars, pondering before saying, "Nothing major, it’s sothing that needs him to start the conversation."

Just like how he had once brought her to kneel at Old Master Lawson’s bedside.

Now, hemust be the one to speak up first.

"I’m a bit tired, I’ll sleep now." Not giving the two more chances to question, Serena wished them good night and then hung up the call.

Looking at the disconnected screen, Serena let out a long sigh.

With this call ended, she could go to sleep.

Just before lying down, she received a ssage.

Serena opened it; it was a cat doing a sorsault.

Below it was a line of text—[My cat can do a backflip.]

"Childish," Serena smiled and tossed her phone aside, went to sleep.

Elsewhere, at Hawthorne Manor.

Orion was playing with Silas’s ragdoll cat.

"Backflip ragdoll, impressive!" Orion nodded, feeding the kitten so snacks.

"Do it again with ’Go! Go! Turn the tide!’ co!" Orion was still training the cat.

But the cat ignored Orion, lazily scampering over to jump into Silas’s arms.

Silas chuckled, scratching the kitten’s chin as it purred contentedly.

...

In the following two days, so events transpired.

She hoped Vera would quickly release it.

It’ll make her lawsuit easier.

She handed the divorce papers to Secretary Chaucer, expressing her intent to reclaim what was rightfully hers.

This includes the old assets of the Sheridan Family.
