Chapter 95: Chapter 95 Selfish Bitch

SOPHIA’S POV

I watched Damien lift Tiffany into his arms like she weighed nothing. Her head rested against his shoulder.

Ashley ca running from the kitchen "Tiffany! Are you okay? What happened?"

"She fell," Damien said "She’s going to be fine, sweetheart. Just a cut on her hand."

"Can I help?" Ashley asked, grabbing onto Damien’s arm. "Can I get bandages? Or ice? Or"-

"You can help by getting the first aid kit from the bathroom upstairs," Damien said, giving her a small smile. "Can you do that for ?"

"Yes!" Ashley took off running.

None of them looked at . I was invisible.

I turned to leave. My vision blurred with tears but I refused to let them fall.

"Sophia! Wait!"

I froze. The voice was female but not Tiffany’s. I turned and saw Dahlia, Damien’s sister, rushing toward

from the direction of the guest wing. Dahlia? I hadn’t even known she was here. I hadn’t seen her in a while.

Declan was behind her. He looked annoyed for so reason.

"Sophia, thank goddess you’re still here," Dahlia said, slightly out of breath. "We need to talk to you."

"I have nothing to say to any of you," I said, turning back toward the door.

"Please!" Dahlia grabbed my arm. Why did everyone keep grabbing ?. "It’s about Aunt Helena. Simon’s mother."

I narrowed my eyes "I know who she is."

"Then you know she’s dying." Dahlia’s eyes were red like she’d been crying. " We need that surgeon friend of yours to operate."

"Lance isn’t just my friend” I said coldly “he’s a victim of your family’s cruelty."

"Aunt Helena is innocent. She’s a good woman who doesn’t deserve to die because of so petty grudge."

"Petty grudge?" My wolf snarled. "Simon had Lance’s hands broken. That’s not a petty grudge."

"Look, I’m sorry about what happened to your... to Lance," Dahlia said, though she didn’t sound sorry at all. "But this is life and death. Surely he can put aside his feelings for a few hours to save a dying woman?"

"Why should he?" I asked. "When has anyone in your family ever put aside their feelings for him?”

Dahlia’s face flushed. "That’s not fair-"

"What’s not fair is you people thinking you can ruin soone’s life and then demand they save yours." I pulled my arm free from her grip. "The answer is no. Lance will make his own decision, and I won’t pressure him either way."

"You selfish bitch," Declan said, stepping forward. His wolf was right at the surface. His eyes glowed amber. "Our aunt is dying and you’re too busy playing victim to help."

"Playing victim?" I repeated, looking at him. "Your brother’s best friend had a man beaten and crippled. How is that playing victim?"

"Simon was just protecting his alpha’s interests," Declan said with a shrug. "That doctor shouldn’t have gotten involved with you in the first place. Everyone knows you’re Damien’s mate. That makes you off-limits."

"I’m not property!"

"You’re a Luna whether you want to be or not. You represent this pack. When you run around with other n, it makes us all look weak." Declan’s lip curled in disgust. "You should be grateful Damien hasn’t divorced you already for bringing sha to the Stone na."

My hands clenched into fists. My wolf was howling for release, wanting to show this arrogant pup what a real Luna could do when pushed too far.

"Declan, that’s enough," Dahlia said "Sophia, please. I know my brother has been terrible to you. I know our family hasn’t treated you well. But can’t you find it in your heart to help an innocent woman?"

"I’m not stopping Lance from helping her," I said through gritted teeth. "But I won’t force him to do sothing he doesn’t want to do, especially not to save the mother of the man who destroyed him."

"So you’re just going to let her die?" Declan demanded. "What kind of monster are you?"

"The kind your family created," I shot back. "You want to know why I won’t help? Because for years, I begged for help and got nothing. I begged Damien to notice , to care about , to protect

from his mother’s abuse. Nothing. I begged him to stop Simon from hurting Lance. Nothing. I’ve begged and pleaded and cried and it’s never mattered to any of you. So, forgive

if I’m fresh out of sympathy."

"You’re pathetic," Declan said. "No wonder Damien prefers Tiffany. At least she has a heart."

The words should have hurt, but I was too numb to feel them anymore.

"Declan, stop," Dahlia said. She turned to

"Sophia, I understand you’re hurt and you have every right to be. But please, don’t let an innocent woman pay for what others have done”

I rembered Lance’s bandaged hands. I rembered the fear in his voice when he told

they might never heal properly.

"I’m sorry for your aunt," I said quietly. "I truly am but this isn’t my decision to make."

I walked out the door before either of them could stop

again.

This ti, I made it to my car. I got in and drove away from Stone Villa without looking back.

-

The next day, I went to the hospital where Lance was recovering. I’d brought him lunch - homade soup and bread, since hospital food was terrible.

I found his room easily enough. The door was a bit open and I could hear voices inside. I was about to knock when I heard a familiar deep voice that made my wolf howl with recognition.

It was George - Damien’s grandfather.

I pushed the door open slowly. Lance was sitting up in bed and beside him, in one of the visitor chairs, was George. The old man looked tired, older than I’d ever seen him.

I was shocked to see him. What was he doing here?

"Sophia," George said. His face lit up when he saw .

I stepped inside "Grandpa George. I didn’t know you’d be here."

"I asked the nurses which room Dr. Chen was in." George’s eyes moved to Lance. "I wanted to et the young man who’s caused such a stir in my family."

Lance looked uncomfortable but respectful. "Mr. Stone, I’ve already told you-"

"Please, call

George." The old man held up a hand. "I’m not here as a Stone. I’m here as an old man begging for help."

My heart sank. "Grandpa-"

"Let

speak, Sophia." George’s voice was gentle. He turned back to Lance. "I know what my grandson’s friend did to you. It was cruel If I’d known sooner, I would have put a stop to it."

"Then why are you here?" I asked.

George looked at , and I saw genuine pain in his eyes. "Because Helena Stone is a good woman and she doesn’t deserve to die because of Simon’s sins."

"She raised Simon," Lance pointed out. "She made him who he is."

"Perhaps. But she also volunteers at the children’s hospital every week. She donates to cancer research in mory of her late husband. She’s kind to service workers and generous to those in need." George’s voice cracked slightly. "She’s not perfect, but she’s not responsible for her son’s cruelty."

The room was quiet except for the beep of monitors.

"I’m not asking you to forgive Simon," George continued. "I’m not even asking you to forgive my family. I’m asking you to be the better person."

Lance was quiet for a long mont.

"And if the surgery fails?" he finally asked. "If my hands can’t handle it and Mrs. Stone dies on my operating table?"

"Then it was the goddess’ will," George said simply. "And I’ll make sure Simon understands that."

George walked closer to

and whispered “Please dear, try to convince him”

I would forever be grateful to this man. He was nice to

when everyone else was cruel to

in the family. Still, I wouldn’t force Lance.

“It’s up to him” I said “I can’t convince him. I won’t”

I saw the understanding in George’s eyes.

He sighed “No. You’re probably right about that. And Sophia? Visit an old man more often, would you? I miss your company."

Tears burned in my eyes. "I will. I promise."

George kissed my forehead, then left the room, closing the door quietly behind him.
