Chapter 194: Chapter 194 Making Wishes

SOPHIA’S POV

My arms were still wrapped around myself while Zade walked ahead to his car. My heart had finally started to calm down after the fear of climbing down the rope, but there was still sothing unsettled inside .

Everything that had happened tonight felt like too much, like my emotions had been stretched too far in too many directions. I didn’t know what to think anymore, and maybe that was why I didn’t stop him when he opened the passenger door for .

“Get in,” he said simply. His voice was calm.

I hesitated for just a second before getting into the car. Zade walked around and got into the driver’s seat, starting the engine without saying anything else.

For a mont, neither of us spoke.

As the car pulled away, I leaned my head against the window, watching the streets pass by. The city looked different at night. The usual noise was gone. The streetlights were on.

“Where exactly are we going?” I asked after a while.

“The old town,” Zade replied. His eyes were still fixed on the road. “There’s a night market there. It’s still open.”

I nodded. I didn’t ask anything else. I didn’t feel like talking much, and he didn’t push

to. The silence between us wasn’t uncomfortable.

After so ti, the surroundings began to change. The roads beca narrower and the buildings got older.

Zade slowed the car and parked at the side of the road.

“We’re here,” he said.

I stepped out of the car and imdiately felt the difference. The night market was alive. Soft lantern lights hung above the streets, glowing against the dark sky. There so small stalls at both sides of the road, filled with all kinds of things - handmade crafts, food, small decorations, and trinkets. People moved around, talking, laughing, and browsing.

For a mont, I just stood there, taking it all in. The place was beautiful.

“It’s... nice,” I admitted quietly.

Zade glanced at

“Good,”

We started walking together, side by side, moving through the crowd. The atmosphere was completely different from everything I had experienced earlier. It felt lighter and calr.

I found myself slowing down as I looked at the stalls. There were so many small, beautiful things. Each one was unique in its own way. My eyes noticed the handmade jewelry, painted fans, and carvings.

“This place feels... peaceful,” I said softly, more to myself than to him.

“It is,” Zade replied. “That’s why I brought you here.”

I didn’t respond right away. Instead, I let myself focus on the mont. For the first ti that night, my chest didn’t feel as tight.

We stopped at one of the stalls, where small ornants were displayed neatly on a wooden table. They were simple but beautifully made. My attention was imdiately drawn to one in particular.

It was a small waterwheel ornant. When the vendor gently turned it, it spun slowly. I loved it.

“It’s beautiful,” I said without thinking.

Zade noticed imdiately. He picked it up then looked at

“You like it?”

I nodded “It’s simple, but... it feels calming.”

Without saying anything else, he turned to the vendor. “We’ll take it.”

I blinked, surprised. “Wait, no - you don’t have to-”

“It’s fine,” he said, cutting

off before I could finish.

“I didn’t say I wanted it,” I added quickly.

“You don’t have to say it. I can see it.”

I opened my mouth to argue, but then stopped. There was no point. His expression made it clear he had already decided.

A few monts later, he handed it to .

I hesitated before taking it. The ornant felt light in my hands.

“...Thank you,” I said quietly, and I ant it.

He didn’t respond, but I noticed him smile a bit.

We continued walking after that, moving deeper into the market. The sounds of laughter and conversation surrounded us, and for a while, I almost forgot everything else.

Eventually, the path led us toward the riverside.

The noise of the market faded a bit as we reached the edge. Now, all I could hear was the gentle sound of water flowing. The river reflected the lights from above.

It was quiet here, calr than the rest of the market.

Near the river, people gathered around a small stand where lanterns were being handed out. So were already lighting them, writing sothing on the paper before releasing them into the water.

“What are they doing?” I asked.

“Making wishes,” Zade said. “You write it on the lantern and let it go.”

I watched as one lantern floated gently onto the river. Its light glowed softly as it drifted away. It looked almost magical.

“Do you believe in that?” I asked, turning to look at him.

Zade shrugged. “It’s not about believing. It’s just... sothing people do.”

Without another word, he walked toward the stand and got two lanterns. He handed one to , along with a pen.

“Go on,” he said.

I looked down at the lantern in my hands. For a mont, I didn’t know what to write. There were too many things in my mind. I had too many emotions, too many thoughts.

Slowly, I started writing.

I didn’t let myself think too much about it. I just wrote what ca to my heart. It was sothing simple and honest.

When I was done, I folded the edge and looked up.

Zade was still writing his.

I tried to glance at it, but he imdiately turned it away from .

“No peeking,” he said.

I raised an eyebrow. “Why? Are you writing sothing embarrassing?”

“Sothing private,”

I couldn’t help but smile “Fine. I won’t look.”

I held my lantern close, making sure he couldn’t see mine either.

“This goes both ways,” I added.

He smirked “Fair enough.”

We walked closer to the river together. The soft glow of the lanterns reflected in the water. The air felt peaceful, like ti had slowed down just for this mont.

“Ready?” he asked.

I nodded.

Together, we gently placed the lanterns onto the surface of the water. For a second, they floated near the edge. Their lights flickered softly.

Then, slowly, they began to drift away.

I watched mine as it moved, carried by the gentle current. The light grew smaller with distance, but it didn’t disappear completely.

I closed my eyes for a brief mont. Silently, I made my wish.

I didn’t say it out loud. I didn’t need to.

When I opened my eyes again, the lantern was already farther away, blending with the others.

For a mont, I forgot everything else.

And I just watched.
