Chapter 160: Chapter 160 Rounds And Consultation

SOPHIA’S POV

That day, I kept working.

The morning passed as I did patient rounds and consultations.

By lunchti, my stomach was growling loudly enough that a patient actually laughed and told

to go eat.

I headed toward the cafeteria. As I walked, my mind was already calculating which quick al would give

enough energy to get through the afternoon without falling asleep.

But as I approached the cafeteria entrance, I saw soone waiting.

Lance stood near the doors, holding a thermal lunch container. He had a huge smile on his face.

"Lance?" I blinked in surprise. "What are you doing here? I thought you had the day off."

"I did. But I had so paperwork to drop off at administration." He held up the container. "And I figured while I was here, I’d make sure you actually ate sothing."

I was shocked "You brought

lunch?"

"I rembered you ntioning your arm was still sore. So I ordered from that place you like." He gestured toward an empty table. "Co on. Let’s sit."

We settled at a corner table, away from the main crowd. Lance opened the container. There were nice als inside the container. It was filled with tender chicken, soft vegetables, and rice.

"This is really thoughtful," I said. My wolf was practically purring with happiness at being cared for. "Thank you."

He shrugged "It’s just food."

We ate together. The conversation flowed easily as we ate. With Lance, there was usually no pressure.

"How’s your arm?" Lance asked, nodding toward my bandaged forearm.

"Better. Still sore, but healing." I flexed my fingers carefully. "Should be back to normal in another week or so."

"And the divorce? How’s that progressing?"

I paused with my fork halfway to my mouth.

"Slowly," I admitted. "We signed the agreent, but we can’t find the marriage certificate. So now we have to apply for a replacent before we can file."

"That’s frustrating."

"It is. But honestly?" I set down my fork. "The delay doesn’t bother

as much as I thought it would. I think part of

needs this ti to... adjust, to process."

"That makes sense." Lance took a sip of his water. "Ending a marriage isn’t just paperwork. It’s grieving a future you thought you’d have. Give yourself ti to feel that."

The understanding in his voice made my throat tight. "Everyone keeps telling

to just move on. To be happy it’s over. But-"

"But it’s not that simple." Lance reached across and squeezed my uninjured hand "And that’s okay. You don’t have to rush through grief just because other people are uncomfortable with it."

I blinked back sudden tears. "How do you always know exactly what to say?"

"I don’t. I just know you." He smiled. "And I know that you’re one of the strongest people I’ve ever t. You’ll get through this at your own pace, in your own way."

"What if my pace is too slow? What if I’m still sad about this a year from now?"

"Then you’ll be sad about it a year from now” he shrugged “There’s no tiline for healing, Sophia. Anyone who tells you otherwise doesn’t understand what you’re going through."

I squeezed his hand back. I was grateful beyond words for his advice. "Thank you for understanding, for not judging ."

"I could never judge you." Lance’s expression was serious now. "You’ve been through hell and you’re still standing. That’s not weakness. That’s incredible strength."

We finished lunch together. The conversation changed to other things. We talked about funny patient stories, hospital gossip, a new restaurant that had opened nearby.

When we stood to leave, Lance pulled sothing from his pocket. It was a small bottle of hand cream.

"Here," he said, giving it to . "For your arm. The wound will heal faster if you keep the skin around it moisturized. And it’ll help prevent scarring."

I looked down at the bottle. It was an expensive brand, specifically formulated for sensitive skin. "You didn’t have to-"

"I know I didn’t have to. I wanted to." Lance’s smile was genuine "Just promise

you’ll use it. Take care of yourself."

"I promise." I tucked the bottle into my pocket. "Thank you, Lance, for everything."

When we left, he walked

back to the office. We said our goodbyes as we walked away from each other.

I went back to work with a lighter heart, Lance’s words actually made

My afternoon rounds felt easier sohow. The patients seed less draining. Even the paperwork felt less tedious.

Lance had given

that gift - the knowledge that soone understood .

And that knowledge? It made everything else feel bearable.

Even the divorce drama. Even the missing marriage certificate. Even Ashley’s rejection and Damien’s choices.

All of it felt survivable.

Because I had people who believed in . I had people who saw my worth, who were willing to stand beside

while I figured out who I was going to be next.

I had Bianca with her loyalty and creative projects.

I had Lance with his understanding and patience.

I also had my family at Sky Manor with their unconditional love.

I wasn’t alone in this. Even when it felt like I was drowning, there were hands reaching out to pull

out.

And maybe that was enough.
