Chapter 154: Chapter 154 His Lovely Companion
SOPHIA’S POV
I turned toward the commotion, expecting to see Marcel causing a scene. But the disturbance was sothing entirely different.
Zade had entered the venue.
And not alone.
The crowd sward around him imdiately. They were drawn to him like moths to a fla. He wore a perfectly fitted charcoal suit that probably cost more than so peoples cars. His Alpha presence commanded every eye in the room.
On his arm was the woman from last night - the one I’d seen in his car. She looked even more stunning in person. She was wearing an elegant erald gown that matched the jade bracelet on her wrist. Her dark hair was straightened to protection. She walked gracefully. She looked like a model that just stepped out of a magazine.
They looked perfect together. They were perfectly matched, like they belonged in the sa world of wealth and beauty.
Zade’s eyes scanned the room and landed on
- still crouched beside the little boy.
His expression hardened.
But he didn’t approach . He didn’t acknowledge my presence.
Instead, he turned his attention to the people surrounding him. His charming smile landed back in place as he greeted admirers and business associates.
Soone in the crowd called out, "Alpha Zade! Who’s your lovely companion?"
The woman on his arm smiled, clearly enjoying the attention.
Zade’s answer was smooth "The one who stays by my side, day after day."
The words carried weight. The crowd murmured even louder. The implication was clear - was this an official announcent? Was Zade Morrison, notorious playboy alpha, finally settling down?
I watched the scene with not much interest. My wolf barely stirred inside . Just last night, this man had saved
from Marcel’s attack, had beaten my assailant bloody, had looked at
with such protectiveness in his eyes.
And today, he was parading another woman through a public event, making declarations that implied she was his chosen partner.
The relief I felt surprised . I felt relieved that I’d never fully fallen for his smooth words.
Because clearly, those promises ant nothing. I was just another woman in his rotation. Zade has always been a playboy and he always will be.
The little boy tugged on my sleeve, pulling my attention back to him.
"Are you listening?" he asked.
"Sorry, sweetheart. What were you saying?"
"I said my na is Boris. What’s yours?"
"Sophia." I smiled at him. "It’s very nice to et you, Boris."
"Can I really call you if I need a nice person?"
"Absolutely." I pulled out another slip of paper. I’d given him one before but wanted to make sure he had it. "Here. Keep this safe, okay?"
Boris took it carefully, folding it and tucking it into his pocket like it was precious treasure.
"Boris." A deep male voice cut through the noise.
I looked up to see a tall man approaching. He wore a dark gray suit with gold-rimd glasses. His features were striking. He had a sharp jawline, intense eyes, the kind of face that belonged on magazine covers. He also had a dominant aura around him.
This must be Boris’s father.
"Daddy!" Boris imdiately ran to him.
The man extended a gloved hand toward his son. "We’re leaving. Say goodbye."
His tone was businesslike. He didn’t look at . He didn’t even acknowledge my presence despite the fact that I was clearly the person his son had been talking to.
Boris glanced back at
“I have to go."
"That’s okay." I stood, brushing off my dress. "It was nice eting you, Boris."
The boy smiled and waved as his father led him away.
I stood there for a mont, watching them go.
"Well," Bianca said, appearing beside . "That was weird. The dad didn’t even look at you."
"So people are like that." I shrugged. "cold, distant. Can’t be bothered with anyone they don’t consider important."
"His loss. You’re amazing with kids." Bianca linked her arm through mine. "Now co on. Let’s get that champagne I promised you."
But before we could move, I caught sight of sothing that made my heart stop.
Ashley stood on the second-floor balcony, looking down at the crowd. Damien was beside her. His hand was on her shoulder as he pointed out sothing below.
And on his other side was Tiffany, laughing at whatever he was saying.
They looked like the perfect family.
My daughter, my husband, and his girlfriend.....alll together. All happy.
Without .
"Sophia?" Bianca’s voice seed far away. "Are you okay?"
"Fine." I forced myself to look away. "Let’s get that champagne."
But as we moved through the crowd, I couldn’t shake the image of them together. I couldn’t stop my wolf from whimpering at the sight of our mate with another woman, our pup looking content in their company.
Across the room, Zade was still holding the beautiful woman. He caught my eye again and this ti, he smiled.
Like he was proving a point.
Like he was showing
exactly what I’d turned down.
I looked away first, refusing to play whatever ga he was playing.
I was done with gas.
I was done with n who said one thing and did another.
I was done with being the backup plan, the convenient option, the woman who got saved but never chosen.
I was choosing myself.
Even if that ant being alone.
Even if that ant watching everyone else pair off while I stood on the sidelines.
Even if it hurt.
Because the alternative - settling for soone who only wanted
when it was convenient - would hurt so much more.
"To new beginnings," Bianca said, handing
a glass of champagne.
"To new beginnings," I said, clinking my glass against hers.
And I ant it.
Even if I had no idea what those new beginnings would look like.
Even if I was terrified of the future.
And maybe, eventually, that would be enough.
