Chapter 983: Old mories

“I never ca back here after I left” in the main world, Maiele Liailos had her arms crossed whilst overlooking the ruined remains of what appeared to have once been a thriving civilisation upon a small island, the structures had been left to gather dust and rot for centuries, perhaps even more than that, and yet, they still remained, still recognisable to her eyes.

“Why did you leave?” Nitok was standing a small distance away, it was a bit strange for the prince and princess of death to be here as this territory was not yet subrged in the royal miasma, having only been spotted recently, indeed, the Elven Light’s holand had been very far from Viridis, so far that it seed truly insane that she had make it so far through the many seas separating the two places, most, even if of the sa strength as her, would have perished the currents or from the attack of a deep dwelling abomination along the way.

“Hold on, let think back to it, it’s been a while…” digging through ancient mories, her pale visage changed expression for a mont, the reason was actually quite simple.

This island had been birthing place and cradle for the greatest elven species to ever grace this world, indeed, the mythical elves were even said to be the ancestors to all other elves, being descendants who once left the island and eventually degenerated into lesser beings, but those were stories said by the elves that never left the island, who claid that their lesser relatives beca inferior because they bred with other creatures, tainting their noble and pure bloodlines with filth.

Indeed, the mythical elves thought highly of themselves, and it was not unfounded, the average mber of this group was dreadfully powerful, most were capable of achieving a zone early-on in their lives, lives who were said to be eternal as once they hit their pri, all aging would cease- The mythical elves were even capable of influencing nature, capable of manipulating ambient energy with a re thought, they were all incredibly powerful and would have been considered gods by many.

They were too full of themselves and too attached to the birthright that was their strength, refusing to leave the island, only knowing about the outside world thanks to those amongst them who could peer through visions…

And then, Maiele was born, early on, she beca aware that she was not like the other mythical elves, at first, it was only a matter of looks, her hair was a soft pink, a most unnatural colour and her eyes a bright yellow, also unseen before.

But most importantly, she was born without the many gifts of her species, her magical talent was nothing outstanding, she could not communicate with nature or control ambient energies as easily as she breathed.

Her kind was too afraid to admit that one of theirs could be born ‘defective’, so they buried their heads in the sand, and simply acted like nothing was wrong with her, terrified that acknowledging her shortcomings despite her pure blood would be akin to casting a curse upon themselves, as though if they dared to recognise that she lacked sothing, that the next generation would face the sa problem was she did.

This behaviour that was common amongst all, even her parents and siblings, unknowingly caused them to begin digging their own graves, as they put up an invisible wall in between themselves and her, Maiele began to develop thoughts and ideas that differed from the norm too.

She reasoned that if the people beyond the island were like her and did not possess extraordinary capabilities, that the mythical elves should help them, she found their self-centered nature to be despicable and nothing short of cowardice, incredibly powerful beings afraid to leave their little island, it was laughable.

Like a bunch of tigers who would cry out in fright if presented with a house cat, frightened that the latter would ‘corrupt’ or ‘dirty’ them.

“I suppose… It was just a matter of differing opinion”

“Was it, now?” Nitok reached what appeared to have been a great center of activities for this island and its people in the past, there, the ground was littered with skeletal remains, many bearing horrific marks, the area had been stained with their supposedly superior blood.

The skeletons were well-preserved, but everything else seed to have dried and decayed away.

“Turns out their strength ca from their bones, everything else turned out to be most mundane once they were dead and their bones stopped nourishing the rest of their bodies… I must have been born with a defect there” Liailos looked over the countless corpses without a hint of emotion, or rather, Nitok was fairly certain that there was a certain glee to be felt from her, like how an architect would look at their creation with a smile of satisfaction.

She glanced at the one who, in a most bizarre twist of fate, was now her husband, Maiele certainly wouldn’t have expected that the one man she would end up with would turn out to be a skeleton that wielded the opposite elent to hers- But perhaps they were not that different at the end of the day.

“On my twenty-first birthday, I felt the power of the elven sun within , the power of my domain ability wanting to manifest, I felt myself being filled with its power, I got to taste what that overwhelming power the others had”

“You know… It had never even crossed my mind prior to that mont, but when I felt this great power beco mine to wield, I realised that I didn’t just despised them, I hated them all to my core, it didn’t even have anything to do with my wish to help others, I just hated them for their re existence”

She raised her foot and stomped down on one of the skulls littering the floor.

“That’s my father, I didn’t even set out to kill anyone in particular first, I just headed here because there would be the most people and I happened to run into him, so I drove my hand through his chest and ripped out his heart, it was so easy, it was honestly disappointing, they were so powerful in all aspects, but never did it even cross their minds to actually try and fructify this strength in any other way than do what naturally ca to them”

“I couldn’t use my domain ability and manifest my elven sun, so I murdered them all with my fists and feet, I discovered myself to be quite the natural at martial arts then…”

“…Anyways, when the miasma reaches this place, don’t hesitate to reanimate them as undeads, as long as you train them, they’ll all be exceptionally powerful- Oh, and there were quite a few children as well, they should be easy enough to mould into good undeads, as for the adults, we’ll probably need to ask that horned guy that likes to hang around Loimos to watch over them…”

Nitok looked at his wife and then at the countless corpses laid about.

“It’s incredible, I am still finding reasons to like you more”

“Shut up, don’t say that out in the open, your royal guards could hear it…”

“You’re so cute when you’re embarrassed!”

“Keep that shit for when in private, damnit!”
