Chapter 883: Mist

The skeleton rely announced for all to hear that another battle would occur tomorrow at the exact sa ti as this one had started upon, and it was then that the pressure truly went up for the livings, as not only would the following days nearly all be fraught with at least one small scale battle, but they would be forced to spare so warriors to watch the west as the undeads would launch incursions to reach the north during said battles, and unlike the friendly, lone undeads that they had sent before, they would send whole teams of them, requiring an ample amount of forces to be ready at all tis to intercept, and defeat them.

The pristine white skeleton, which seed to be the mouthpiece of the invaders, would show up everyday to make an announcent, always stating that a battle would occur the next day, or sotis even just straight up saying that the next battle would be in an hour.

And on a few occasions, he had simply lied and no battle had occurred, there wouldn’t be incursions all the ti either, certain tis, incursions occurred without any battle to go alongside it, and the undeads even began to unleash great amounts of flying corpses and abominations into the realm, taking care of them all was difficult, and it was without a doubt that so reached the north, thus leading to having to have warriors watch this side of the barrier as well now.

But whilst the undeads increased the pressure, the livings adapted and learned to better fight them, managing to bring down the amount of casualties per battle… But still, there were so confrontations that dealt heavy blows to the livings, it was still the sa old problem, their enemy was simply too unpredictable, the strategy, the numbers, the types of castes… It did not take much to take the defenders of the realm by surprise.

On one occasion, there was no real battle, for the mass of undeads that ca to face them was but a trick, as they all detonated the mont the livings ca to et them head-on, many lost their lives that day, and that is without counting the other tis the invaders pulled the rug from under them.

Or simply when they decided to send different sorts of troops entirely, the ti various sorts of werewolves showed up had been especially brutal, or when they decided to make use of golems- Or when they hid so of their lieutenants amongst the masses…

Of course, the livings did not stay passive in all of this, without stop, they were always trying to develop thods to more efficiently repel them, or deny access the certain areas, many designs and concepts were attempted, so showed so promise, but ultimately, since the very first battle had occurred, the first invention to truly work out as intended, and even go beyond expectations took one year to be created, by then, the livings were fatigued and had lost many brave warriors, they continued to defiantly repel any attempt for the corpses to march through the west to the north, but even there, casualties were mounting bit by bit…

The death hunters, spirits of various experts summoned by Antieeld had managed to develop a better, stronger, more resilient form of the life mist they soti used, ant to emulate and be a foil to the undead miasma, it was a great advance when it occurred, but required sothing more to truly be efficient.

This was when the talent holders ca into the scene and truly showed their worth.

Spula, who held a talent relating to alchemy, further enhanced the life mist, creating a condensed version that could linger on in place for an entire week and resist damage from the undeads very well, not only that, but it could spread high up, retaining the sa potency as it did when close to the ground, which would allow the people of the realm to challenge the aerial superiority of their opponents.

Following this, Marl who held a talent relating to the holy, and priest of Phanes, with the assistance of the other clerics present, was able to figure out a way to hallow and consecrate the very ground, and it extended beyond the borders of the barrier as well, with believers of Phanes and Nike, they were able to imbue the divinities of their deities upon the soil everyone fought upon and also into the life mist above, naly- Life and Victory.

Next, Poho, who held a talent in smithing, and Liebeln, who held a talent in architecture, and had previously created the constructions to seal the gateways, worked together in the fabrication of facilities that would constantly pour out life mist, essentially allowing for it to constantly be refuelled and to expand further without stop.

They built several of said facilities, and even prepared materials to build more in the future if necessary.

With the combined genius and efforts of them all, they were finally able to create sothing that was finally capable of restraining the undeads, the effects were not imdiate as the mist needed ti to spread, but once it began to flow out of the barrier, things imdiately changed for the better.

Life mist by their side, the warriors of the realm now had a clear advantage against the undeads when facing them head-on, not only could their enemy not easily move forward because of it, but the numbers of injuries and lethal wounds dropped significantly too.

Thanks to the mist, the western side also beca much easier to defend, once it was completely flooded, the defenders had a massive advantage as the undeads would have to actually enter the mist to even try to get through, and being made from their bane, their incredible senses were rendered feeble, making them easy to ambush.

Of course, tragedies were not eradicated, but the realm greatly benefitted as eventually, the attacks dropped in intensity, the undeads montarily pulling back, certainly to find a counter.

Loimos had already expressed his terms, so unless he changed his mind, the miasma should not be unleashed to deal with the mist, but that did not an that the enemy would not find a way, in fact, they would certainly find multiple very soon, so it was important for the livings to not drop their guard and continue to develop the mist further alongside more thods to keep the dead in check.

Right at this instant however, they enjoyed a few monts of well-deserved respite.

In this entire year of conflict… Apart from the two ancestors at the very beginning of it all… No one had spotted Loimos even once…
