Chapter 144: Qin Xian’s Appetite
Wen Yu had clashed with the Military Departnt yet again.
Since the Emperor’s disappearance, the Void Hunting Trial had been hosted annually by the Military Affairs Office.
Though Wen Yu was appointed to oversee this year’s trial, it was assud that the Military Affairs Office would still manage the logistics.
But Wen Yu made it clear: everything, from planning to execution, would be handled by the Eastern Army.
This caused an uproar within the Military Departnt.
For them, this wasn’t just about this year’s trial; it was about setting a precedent.
If the Eastern Army handled this year’s trial, future iterations would likely fall into their hands as well.
The Military Departnt would lose its influence over one of the most important stages for grooming Imperial talent.
The conflict escalated, with high-ranking officials even banging tables in protest.
But in the end, the Regent’s Office intervened.
The Military Departnt had no choice but to back down, and the Eastern Army was granted full control of the trial.
However, this decision drove relations between Wen Yu and the Military Departnt to an all-ti low.
Qin Xian’s Calculations
In the Qin Family Estate, Qin Xian leaned back in his chair, listening as Steward Qiu gave his report.
“The Military Departnt has indicated that they will cooperate fully with any of your requests for the trial,” Qiu said respectfully.
Qin Xian smirked, his voice calm but laced with contempt.
“It seems the Military Departnt is truly desperate. They fear that if the Eastern Army secures control of this trial, their influence will be permanently diminished.”
Qiu nodded. “Yes, and according to our sources, Wen Yu has stationed her elite personal guards to oversee every aspect of the trial. They’ve entered Level One Alert Status to ensure security.”
Qin Xian chuckled.
“So, they think that I’ve allied with the Military Departnt to orchestrate an incident during the trial? They believe we’re trying to unseat Wen Yu as Eastern Army Commander?”
His tone turned mocking.
“How small-minded. They have no idea what I truly want. They think my ambition ends at dividing the Eastern Army?”
Qiu’s brow furrowed, his expression questioning.
Qin Xian rose, pacing slowly.
“My appetite is far greater than that. Tell the Military Departnt to provide with the maps of the trial grounds and the data locations of all Void Beasts.
Also…” He paused, a sinister glint in his eyes.
“Have them tamper with the surroundings near Void Lord Gobel.”
Void Lord Gobel was no ordinary entity.
Once the Third Lieutenant of the Sixth Void Court, Gobel was a legendary Void Lord who had invaded Earth as a vanguard.
He was the first Void Lord slain by the founding Emperor, Ying Zu, and his essence had been digitized into the trial as a powerful boss.
As one of the elite targets in the Void Hunting Trial, Gobel’s presence offered both imnse danger and unparalleled rewards.
“If we manipulate the area around Gobel properly, the resulting chaos should be enough to further fracture the Military Departnt and Eastern Army.”
Qin Xian’s smile deepened.
Wen Yu’s Calculations
anwhile, at the Wen Estate, the tension was palpable.
The once-quiet household had been transford into a barracks under the protection of Wen Yu’s elite guards.
These warriors, veterans of countless Void battles, were among the Eastern Army’s most loyal and formidable soldiers.
Each of them was at least Level 30, with so approaching Level 50.
“Commander,” ca a report.
The speaker was a well-dressed middle-aged man with sharp features and an air of authority. This was Shi Zhi, Director of the Imperial Special Intelligence Bureau, and a trusted ally of Regent Lu Ji.
“Our agents have intercepted troubling information: the Military Departnt has created duplicate maps of the trial grounds.
Additionally, there’s evidence of secret communications between the Military Departnt and the Qin Family.”
Wen Yu’s adjutant, Sun, slamd his fist on the table.
“Those Military Departnt bastards! How dare they collude with the Qin Family against us? This is outright treachery!”
He turned to Wen Yu.
“Commander, we should confront them imdiately. Demand an explanation and expel their influence from the trial!”
Wen Yu raised a hand, silencing him.
Her expression was icy, her mind racing.
“No,” she said firmly.
“If we confront them now, we’ll tip our hand. Let’s pretend we’re unaware of their moves for the ti being.
This could be an opportunity to catch the Qin Family red-handed.”
Sun’s face reflected his confusion.
“Commander, what do you an?”
“If the Qin Family is truly plotting sothing during the trial, we can use this chance to expose them,” Wen Yu explained.
“If I can capture Qin Xian in the act, it won’t matter how powerful his family is. Not even they can escape the repercussions.”
Her voice was cold, her determination palpable.
“This trial will be his undoing.”
The Trap Is Set
Both sides continued their preparations.
The Qin Family manipulated the trial’s logistics and monster data, their ambitions shrouded in mystery.
The Eastern Army tightened security, aiming to turn the Qin Family’s sches against them.
Unbeknownst to most, these machinations were the prelude to a confrontation that would shake the Empire to its core.
And so, the stage was set for the Void Hunting Trial, no longer a simple event for nurturing talent.
It had beco a battleground for political ambitions, personal vendettas, and the fate of the Empire’s most powerful factions.
Victory would not go to the strong alone, but to the one who outmaneuvered their enemies.
