Chapter 139: Many Want Her Dead

As one of the Twelve Founding Families, the Qin family’s influence in the human world was unquestionable.

Within the Empire, the Qin family was a symbol of power. Countless individuals, upon hearing the Qin na, would willingly bow their heads and pledge loyalty, even debasing themselves to serve as re pawns for the family.

Even Wen Yu, who despised the Qin family, couldn’t deny their imnse influence over the human world.

Moreover, the Qin family’s contributions to the war against the Void were undeniable.

Throughout history, many of their powerful mbers had achieved legendary feats, slaying nurous Void Lords.

If a list of contributors to the Void War were to be drawn up, the Qin family would rank among the top. Even Qin Ming himself had slain several Void Lords.

Now, to suggest that the Qin family might have colluded with the Void?

Even Wen Yu, despite her disdain for the Qin family, found it hard to believe. The idea of a Founding Family collaborating with the Void was beyond absurd.

If it were true…

Not only the Empire, but the entire human race would face catastrophic danger. An Empire led by a family in league with the Void was a terrifying thought. The re possibility sent chills down Wen Yu’s spine.

Lu Ji shook his head, “There’s no solid proof yet,” he said. “It’s just a suspicion of mine.”

He glanced at Wen Yu, his tone serious, “Do not speak of this to anyone.”

Wen Yu nodded, as she understood that even if there were irrefutable evidence, this was not the kind of matter to be revealed lightly.

“Our enemy is the Qin family,” Wen Yu began.

“No,” Lu Ji interrupted, his expression darkening.

“Our enemies are the Qin family and the entire aristocratic class.”

Lu Ji’s gaze turned somber as he explained, “So noble families may not have been involved in the conspiracy against the Emperor, but they would certainly not wish for his return.”

Wen Yu shuddered at his words, realizing for the first ti the enormity of what her teacher was up against. She had thought Lu Ji was rely fighting the Qin family.

But now, it was clear: Lu Ji was fighting the entire aristocracy.

“But the hardest tis are behind us,” Lu Ji continued. “In three years, at most, we will know the Emperor’s location.

“When His Majesty returns, all these problems can be resolved.”

Lu Ji’s tone was firm. “However, you must purge the Eastern Army of its loose ends. When His Majesty returns, it may very well lead to a civil war.

“The Imperial Guard is no more. The Central Army and Southern Army are under aristocratic control. The Northern Army is still being restructured. The only force we can rely on is your Eastern Army.”

After leaving the Regency Office, Wen Yu proceeded to the Ministry of Defense to complete her debriefing.

As Commander-in-Chief of the Eastern Army, her arrival was t with great attention. The Minister of Defense, Fang Ji, personally received her, but his deanor was indifferent and cold.

This wasn’t unexpected. The tension between the Eastern Army and the Ministry of Defense was no secret.

After an hour of routine formalities, Wen Yu declined the Ministry’s offer to host a welco banquet and left without further delay.

Inside the Minister’s Office.

Fang Ji’s chief of operations, Wu Xiong, scowled as he spoke, “Wen Yu is becoming increasingly dismissive of the Ministry!”

The Ministry of Defense, as the supre authority of the Empire’s military, oversaw all branches of the ard forces.

From army commanders to junior officers, all appointnts required the Ministry’s approval.

Yet the Eastern Army had grown increasingly independent, operating almost as a private force under the Regency Office.

This blatant disregard for the Ministry had long been a source of frustration among its officials.

Fang Ji, however, remained unperturbed. Sitting behind his desk, his imposing presence was that of a near-demigod.

The aura of an 85th-level Legendary professional was palpable, inspiring both awe and fear.

Despite Wu Xiong’s indignation, Fang Ji simply smiled faintly.

“Let her be. She has already left the Eastern Army Headquarters to return to the Imperial Capital,” Fang Ji said calmly.

“That ans she has shown her hand.” He gestured dismissively, his voice laced with cold certainty.

“Don’t worry. There are many who want her dead.”

At that mont, Fang Ji’s phone rang.

Seeing the caller ID, his expression softened into a smile.

He motioned for Wu Xiong to leave. Once Wu Xiong had departed and the office door was securely shut, Fang Ji answered the call.

“Ah, Young Master Qin Xian, what a pleasant surprise…”

At the Wen Family Residence

As the most prominent rising power in the Empire, the Wen family’s estate was nothing short of grand.

Stationed throughout the residence were nurous powerful guards.

These individuals were retired officers from the Eastern Army, much like Zhao Tong. Despite their heroic deeds on the Void Frontline, these soldiers lacked the connections needed to secure prestigious positions after retirent.

Wen Yu had taken them in, providing them with a purpose: protecting her brother, Wen Xu.

“Big Sister!” Wen Xu stood at the estate’s gates, his face lighting up with joy as he saw Wen Yu step out of her car.

The young man ran to her, his excitent palpable.

“Xiao Xu!” Wen Yu’s face softened with affection. The two siblings embraced, their bond evident in the way they spoke to each other.

However, Wen Xu’s expression soon turned somber. His voice quivered as he said, “Zhao Uncle… he…”

In front of his sister, Wen Xu allowed himself to show his vulnerability, his eyes brimming with tears as he recounted his grievances.

Wen Yu’s heart ached at the sight of her brother’s distress. “I know everything,” she said gently, placing a reassuring hand on his shoulder.

Her eyes burned with determination as she added, “That’s why I’ve returned. With here, no one will bully you again.”

“Every injustice you’ve endured—I’ll make sure you get the justice you deserve.”
