Chapter 107: One Girl, Three Guys
Sheng Junchen’s exaggerated display naturally caught everyone’s attention. Just monts ago, he exuded an air of authority, every gesture radiating the deanor of a powerful leader. His presence was chilling, inspiring awe and fear in equal asure.
Yet now, there he was, wearing a sycophantic smile, scampering to the car with a comical gait before bowing deeply.
The crowd was stunned. For those unfamiliar with Sheng Junchen, it felt like an illusion. Was this truly the Minister of Supervision, the terrifying figure who had orchestrated the recent purge of tens of thousands? Or was he just a doorman?
What kind of person could make such a formidable man behave like this?
Among the more inford elites, so faces turned grim.
“It must be ‘that’ person from the Qin family…”
There was no other explanation. The only ones capable of reducing Sheng Junchen to such servile behavior were the Qin family. After all, Sheng Junchen openly declared himself their loyal dog.
—
Inside the car were Qin Xian and Qin Li.
Qin Xian’s brow arched slightly as he noticed Sheng Junchen outside. Beside him, Qin Li frowned.
“This person…” she murmured.
She didn’t care much for Sheng Junchen, considering him a sycophantic lackey. To her, soone like Sheng Junchen would undoubtedly betray the Qin family without hesitation if their influence ever waned.
“Brother, Sheng Junchen isn’t a good person. A man like him has no limits. If our family ever weakens, he will definitely turn on us,” she said softly.
“I know,” Qin Xian replied with a faint smile. He nodded at his sister. “When that day cos, this dog might even try to tear us apart.”
Qin Li’s eyes flickered with concern. “Then why…”
“Because that day will never co,” Qin Xian interrupted, his tone firm.
Pride flashed in his eyes as he looked at her, declaring with a smile, “The Qin family will never falter. We will always be the strongest family in the empire. And as long as we remain strong, people like Sheng Junchen will gladly offer us their souls.”
He glanced outside at Sheng Junchen, whose ingratiating smile was plastered across his face, and smirked. “This dog is still useful for now, isn’t it?”
As the car window rolled down, Qin Xian nodded at Sheng Junchen. “Minister Sheng.”
Sheng Junchen responded with an obsequious grin, bowing deeply. “Minister? In front of you, young master, I’m no minister. Please, let’s not be so formal. I am, and will always be, your most loyal servant.”
Noticing Qin Li, Sheng Junchen imdiately added, “Miss Qin.”
Qin Li gave him a curt nod, her deanor cold. Sheng Junchen, undeterred, maintained his enthusiasm.
“Minister Sheng, is sothing the matter?” Qin Xian asked.
Sheng Junchen quickly replied, “I happened to have so free ti, so I ca to attend the auction. Seeing you here, there are so matters I’d like to report.”
Qin Xian nodded. “Get in.”
Turning to Qin Li, he said gently, “You go ahead to the auction house.”
“Alright,” Qin Li replied, understanding that Sheng Junchen likely had sothing to discuss privately with her brother. She got out of the car gracefully.
Sheng Junchen bowed deeply as she exited. “Apologies for the intrusion, Miss Qin.”
Only when Qin Li was out of sight did Sheng Junchen climb into the car, carefully closing the door and perching on the edge of the seat.
“Young master, there’s been so movent from the Regency Council and the Military Departnt,” Sheng Junchen began cautiously.
Qin Xian’s eyes narrowed slightly. “What kind of movent?”
“The Military Departnt sent soone carrying the Void Compass deep into the Void,” Sheng Junchen reported, watching Qin Xian’s expression closely.
Sheng Junchen knew a bit about the truth behind the emperor’s mysterious disappearance, which made this report all the more nerve-wracking.
Qin Xian remained silent, his expression unreadable as he fell into deep thought. The atmosphere in the car grew heavy, and Sheng Junchen didn’t dare breathe too loudly.
He glanced at Qin Xian, marveling inwardly.
‘The young master truly has the bearing of an emperor already.’
Though Sheng Junchen’s deferential attitude was partly an act, he genuinely feared Qin Xian—not just his background or power, but the man himself.
After a long silence, Qin Xian finally spoke, his voice icy. “Are you sure this is connected to the Regency Council?”
“Yes… yes, I’m certain,” Sheng Junchen stamred, swallowing nervously. “The team that went into the Void belongs to the Northern Army. Their commander is Ren Xun, an imperial major general and a Level 57 Void Walker.”
“While Ren Xun himself has no ties to the Regency Council, his younger brother is a senior advisor there.
Our investigation shows that before Ren Xun’s departure, he had a secret eting with his brother in the capital.”
Qin Xian nodded. “Does my father know about this?”
“Not yet. The regent is eting with two envoys from the Eagle Nation today.”
“Should we… take action?” Sheng Junchen asked tentatively.
“Not for now,” Qin Xian said dismissively. “Leave it.”
—
anwhile, a taxi slowly approached the auction house, drawing everyone’s attention.
What was this? In a sea of luxurious private cars, why was there a taxi here?
The vehicle ca to a stop, and the nervous driver, visibly trembling, hesitated under the watchful eyes of the elite. The taxi had already been stopped by security officers, who only allowed it through after verifying the passenger’s invitation.
Out stepped Gu Anran, followed by Zhao Haoran, Yang Ling, and Xu Taichu. The sight of the four instantly beca the focus of all eyes.
While it wasn’t uncommon to see one man escorting three won, the reverse—a girl with three n—was unprecedented.
For the assembled elites, it was a shocking and novel sight.
