Chapter 753: A Second Spring Erges?
"Why bother with the opinions of these people?"
Xiao Yi gave a faint smile, his gaze dismissive as he glanced at the crowd casting strange looks his way, then peered at the row upon row of stores ahead. Quickly, his attention settled on a n’s clothing store, "Let’s go, we’ll check out that store."
The beggar had wanted to say sothing more, but upon hearing Xiao Yi’s words, he stopped himself, observing the detached composure on Xiao Yi’s face. A mix of gratitude and admiration erged in his eyes.
Perhaps, only such an extraordinary young man would be qualified to be the instructor’s friend, the beggar thought to himself.
The beggar, a middle-aged man, had no particular concern for fashion; as long as the size fit, there was no issue. But just after spending less than ten minutes in the store, when he erged holding a set of clothes that seed about the right size, he felt as if it had been as long as ten years, the fiery, strange gazes of the salespeople making him want to crawl into a hole.
When he saw that Xiao Yi still maintained that light and breezy deanor, as if oblivious to their odd stares, his heart couldn’t be described as anything less than profoundly respectful.
After buying clothes, the next step was a haircut.
Unsurprisingly, the barbershop too beca abuzz at their arrival. Each hairstylist, upon knowing it was this man they would cut hair for, shied away by leaps and bounds, all of them directly refusing his business.
In the face of this situation, Xiao Yi was also at a loss, feeling helpless — it was not others’ fault, after all, this guy did indeed look a bit dirty, and it was unclear how long it had been since he had last bathed. Even walking beside him, Xiao Yi occasionally had to hold his breath, and the man’s hair was a downright ss.
However, in this world, there’s sothing imnsely alluring that can make many impossible things possible, and that’s money. Attracted by Xiao Yi’s substantial funds, the barbershop finally agreed to cut the beggar’s hair and even provided a place for him to shower first, followed by trimming.
After so fussing, when the beggar’s appearance had finally been refreshed and he had regained so of his forr charm, stripping away the image of a beggar, the sun had begun to set.
"Let’s go, we’ll have a al across the street; it’s been quite a day," Xiao Yi said with a satisfied smile on his face as he nodded at the middle-aged man who, despite not exactly radiating vitality, looked significantly refreshed.
Even though for a bodyguard appearance is not the most critical aspect, but strength, still as Chen Jianguo is not just anybody and often has to attend public events, as his personal bodyguard, a poor image by his side might sowhat impact his reputation.
"Alright."
The beggar took a glance at his new self in the mirror, the expression on his face sohow unnatural. For a while now, he had grown accustod to the disheveled, image-less appearance of a beggar, and the sudden change felt jarring. Especially when he saw the barber staff casting their surprised or admiring glances, he felt awkward and longed to leave quickly.
"My na is Li Wenqiu."
Sitting in a quiet convenience store, the beggar faced Xiao Yi and introduced himself earnestly.
"Xiao Yi."
eting the beggar’s gaze, Xiao Yi’s expression turned solemn as he nodded and introduced himself.
"Xiao Yi, Xiao Yi," Li Wenqiu quietly murmured to himself, seeming to commit the na to mory. After a while, he looked back at Xiao Yi and said, "I’ve got it."
Xiao Yi nodded and slowly opened the nu, then passed it to him, "Take a look, what would you like to eat?"
He knew what Li Wenqiu’s formally pronounced words to him ant, but he didn’t take them to heart. To him, he hadn’t intended to bestow kindness or expected any reciprocation.
The reason he got out of the car to find him was simply that he was a soldier led by Shangguan, he wanted to know why things had turned out this way, what tragedies had befallen him. Whether agreeing to help him return to Shangguan’s side, or taking him out to get a haircut and buy clothes, it was only because he was to protect Chen Jianguo. In his view, it was a fair trade, not a granting of favors — nothing more.
Li Wenqiu didn’t say much more, nor did he beat around the bush. He knew that so things don’t need to be stated; they just need to be done!
He knew that the young man in front of him, despite looking quite youthful, possessed strength that was unfathomable and beyond comparison. Perhaps, he would never be able to assist him in any way throughout his life, but in his heart, he silently made a vow that no matter what, as long as he still drew breath, he would ensure that Chen Jianguo would co to no harm!
.....................
"Bang!"
Unsure of how long she had waited, just when Zeng Xiaoi felt like giving up, the operation room door finally swung open with a loud bang,
"Doctor, how is the patient?"
The mont she heard the bang, Zeng Xiaoi’s figure almost reflexively rushed toward the door, anxiously inquiring.
"The patient’s condition... Eh, why is it you?"
Doctor Niu, at the forefront, instinctively began to recount the patient’s condition upon hearing her voice. But after uttering only a few words, he realized sothing was off, raised his head, and looked at the anxious face before him with a surprised expression.
"It’s , what about it? Doctor, do you know ?"
Zeng Xiaoi was startled for a mont, gazing at the doctor with perplexity, searching her mory to see if the man in front of her was an acquaintance she had forgotten. But after racking her brains, she realized there was truly no recollection of this person.
The other doctors and Dean Chen beside her also revealed a trace of astonishnt, looking at Doctor Niu with surprise, silently wondering how Doctor Niu might know her. Yet, judging by the girl’s expression, it seed as though she did not recognize him at all.
"This... I apologize, I lost my composure just now. I saw you downstairs earlier, we took the sa elevator up here."
Feeling everyone’s gaze, Doctor Niu’s face showed an embarrassed expression as he explained.
"Oh, I see. Doctor, how is the patient?"
Upon hearing that the doctor had seen her downstairs and shared an elevator ride with her, Zeng Xiaoi briefly showed a look of realization, then imdiately asked anxiously about the patient’s condition again.
Riding the sa elevator?
Was that why Doctor Niu had such an expression just now?
Zeng Xiaoi didn’t think much of it, but Dean Chen and the two other doctors, upon hearing Doctor Niu’s explanation, couldn’t help but show an incredibly surprised look. In their mory, Doctor Niu was not the kind of man to hit on beautiful won or establish relations with them. What was going on with him today?
Thinking this, the faces of the two doctors and Dean Chen turned odd.
"Miss, please don’t be anxious. The patient’s condition is not very good. The injuries are severe, we’ve done everything we could..."
Doctor Niu, completely unaware of the peculiar looks from his colleagues and Dean Chen, looked at Zeng Xiaoi’s anxious deanor and once again began to recount the patient’s condition. But he stopped midway, as if sothing suddenly occurred to him, and his gaze lit up intensely as he looked at Zeng Xiaoi, "May I ask if you are a family mber of the patient?"
"That... no, I am from the city criminal investigation departnt. The patient is the victim of a case I am handling and the sole survivor of this incident."
Hearing the doctor’s question, Zeng Xiaoi’s face showed confusion once more. Why was he asking such a strange question? Still, she patiently answered and explained.
Watching Doctor Niu’s eyes suddenly shine, the two doctors beside him and Dean Chen were taken aback.
Dean Chen started sweating profusely, aware of the girl’s identity unlike his colleagues. He knew very well that this was Miss Zeng from the Zeng family. If Doctor Niu really provoked her, and the Zeng family beca enraged, not only would Doctor Niu’s life be at stake, but his position as the dean would also be in jeopardy!
"Oh, is that so."
Upon hearing that Zeng Xiaoi was a police officer and that the patient was not her relative, but rather the victim in a case, Doctor Niu scrutinized her thoroughly, making sure she didn’t appear to be fabricating the story. His expression then dimd again.
No wonder she didn’t call for Xiao Yi to treat him; the patient was not her relative but rely the victim in a case she was handling, with whom she had no familial ties. (To be continued.
