"Do you recognize ?"

Startled by the doctor’s address, Zeng Xiaoi’s face registered shock, then she looked at him warily.

"No, I don’t."

The doctor shook his head, seeming to perceive Zeng Xiaoi’s confusion, and explained, "The gentleman who brought you here told that you are a police officer, surnad Zeng."

"Brought here? What is this place, and how did I get here? Please explain in detail."

Upon hearing the doctor’s words, Zeng Xiaoi was startled again, then she asked the doctor with a serious expression. Because of her long years in criminal investigation, her tone and manner of questioning naturally carried a professional edge.

"This is the People’s Hospital in Linshan County under G City. Around eleven o’clock last night, a gentleman brought you here and called for , saying that you were severely injured while pursuing a group of extrely vicious criminals and needed a ward to recover in. By the way, Officer Zeng, how are your injuries now?"

Despite Zeng Xiaoi’s sowhat impolite questioning, which seed more akin to interrogating a suspect, the doctor didn’t take offense. He nodded and began to answer her questions, then couldn’t help but look at Zeng Xiaoi with curiosity after speaking a few sentences.

He had been a doctor for many years but had never encountered a situation like today, where soone brought in a patient but didn’t need the doctor’s help to treat them; they treated the patient themselves. Moreover, he found it hard to believe that Zeng Xiaoi, with such severe injuries at the ti, could have recovered so easily.

"Yes, I’ve mostly recovered. Your dical skills are really quite impressive. Thank you very much."

Zeng Xiaoi nodded then rembered this person was a doctor and possibly her savior; realizing her earlier tone might have been impolite, she quickly expressed her gratitude and regret.

"Truly recovered? That’s truly incredible."

The doctor’s face showed a hint of awe, and his eyes revealed disbelief. After he finished speaking, he rembered that Zeng Xiaoi might have misunderstood and quickly clarified, "Officer Zeng, I can’t take credit for your thanks. Your injuries have nothing to do with . It was the gentleman who brought you here who treated you himself. It’s astonishing that such a young-looking man could possess such extraordinary dical skills. You don’t know, when he first brought you in, I checked, and it seed like you were bleeding internally. Such injuries are usually very difficult to treat. And what’s more miraculous is that he healed you without even using any surgical instrunts! He truly is a remarkable person!"

"Hmm?"

Upon hearing the doctor’s words, Zeng Xiaoi couldn’t help but brush aside the look of awe on his face, and with a sense of urgency, she asked, "Doctor, where is the person who brought here? Where is he now?"

By now, she could almost completely guess why she was here. She had initially fallen into the hands of that vicious gang, but then a skilled individual saved her and brought her here.

She was eager to et this rescuer, not only to thank him, but also to find out what had happened to the gang mbers. If he had the skill to save her, he might also have the capacity to ’catch’ them and bring them to justice. Those criminals were key leads in the case, especially the two ’Bone Tempering Period’ experts, who were likely the influential leaders.

"I’m sorry, Officer Zeng, after he brought you to the hospital and instructed to call your police station colleagues, he left imdiately. I don’t know where he went."

Seeing Zeng Xiaoi’s anxious deanor, the doctor felt a bit apologetic and asked with a look of surprise, "Officer Zeng, isn’t he one of your colleagues from the police, or a friend of yours?"

"Knock knock..."

Just as Zeng Xiaoi was about to say sothing, she heard a series of urgent footsteps in the corridor nearby, followed by a respectful voice saying, "This is the place."

As soon as the voice faded, before Zeng Xiaoi could register any confusion, she heard the door to the ward being pushed open.

"Team Leader Li?"

Zeng Xiaoi almost subconsciously darted into the corner next to her the mont she heard the door to the ward being pushed open. At the sa ti, her eyes, filled with a tinge of vigilance, looked towards the entrance of the ward, ready to strike the mont the person entered if she perceived any threat and to take the opportunity to escape.

However, before she could muster the last bit of strength in her body for a strike, her expression froze in astonishnt. To her disbelief, the person who walked through the door was none other than Team Leader Li from the Provincial Office!

The doctor beside her, feeling soone rudely burst in, had a hint of shock and anger on his face. Just as he was about to rebuke them, his mouth stayed open, speechless, when he recognized the few people who had entered.

He didn’t recognize any of these extraordinary individuals, but he recognized their authoritative police uniforms.

Even for doctors clad in white coats, there was a certain degree of inherent reverence for the police.

"Zeng?"

Team Leader Li, hearing Zeng Xiaoi’s words, finally turned his gaze to the corner. Seeing her clearly, his face montarily stiffened, his eyes showing disbelief.

After a mont, he regained his composure, excitent in his eyes, and said repeatedly, "Zeng, are you alright? It’s good that you’re safe, good that you’re safe!"

When he heard that Zeng Xiaoi was in the ICU, his heart nearly leapt to his throat. If it weren’t for the many years of his career rendering his emotions stable, he almost would have cursed out loud on the spot.

"Good that you’re safe, good that you’re safe!"

On the way here, he almost died of regret, cursing himself for being so foolish to let himself be persuaded by her words. How could he allow this princess to undertake such risky business of pursuing criminals from such a distance?

For several continuous hours, he felt as if he was suffocating, his breathing no longer smooth.

"Team Leader Li, I am fine. And Captain, why have you all co?"

Zeng Xiaoi, seeing the anxious and excited expressions on the faces of her two superiors, asked with so confusion. As she finished her question, she recalled what the doctor had said earlier about calling them, assuming that was why they had rushed over. She stepped forward, her face showing a mix of guilt and gratitude, and said, "Team Leader Li, Captain, I’m sorry for making you run around in the middle of the night because of . It’s really too much... Actually, you didn’t need to co all this way; sending a colleague to pick up would have been enough."

"Let’s not talk about that now, hehe, it’s good that you’re safe, good that you’re safe."

Team Leader Li finally managed to stabilize his emotions a bit and showed a slight smile. He waved his hand, then turned to Zeng Xiaoi and asked, "Hey, young lady, why were you so impulsive, chasing all the way out here? What am I going to do with you?"

"Team Leader, I..."

"Nevermind, girl, you don’t need to explain. I know you’re like a determined superwoman, but in the future, try not to be so impulsive. Stay calm, and if there’s an issue, discuss it with everyone first. Now, tell us, exactly what happened? How did you end up chasing here and getting injured?"

A flash of guilt crossed Zeng Xiaoi’s face, wanting to offer an explanation, but Team Leader Li interrupted her.

"It’s like this, Team Leader..."

Hearing Team Leader Li ask about the matter at hand, Zeng Xiaoi imdiately gathered her thoughts and began to recount the events seriously. She detailed how she had discovered their gang, her pursuit, and ultimately how she fell into their trap.

Listening to Zeng Xiaoi’s account, the two directors from G City and H City as well as Team Leader Li, all seasoned police officers with a wealth of case experience, couldn’t help but show a hint of shock.
