"Sigh... If Xiao Yi were here, it would be great, he might be able to think of a solution."
Elder An raised his head, sighed deeply, and as a lifelong doctor, he of course understood the principle that dicine cannot raise the dead. It wasn’t his first ti encountering such situations, but every ti, when he saw so powerless illnesses, when he saw the life of patients irretrievably lost, his heart invariably felt a sadness and discomfort.
If possible, he still hoped to save the lives of every patient as much as he could.
"Grandpa, I’ve said it, that man is a big liar, and you still don’t believe it."
When An Lili heard Grandpa ntion Xiao Yi again, her eyes imdiately showed disdain.
Last ti she hurried back ho, only to be told that Xiao Yi had already left, which made her extrely regretful and disappointed, resulting in her missing another great opportunity to expose his true, ugly nature. Then, she heard Grandpa talking about making an appointnt with him to treat that liver disease patient, and saw the hopeful look on Grandpa’s face, as well as the tone he spoke with, highly venerating Xiao Yi, as if his involvent guaranteed the patient’s recovery.
Right away, an idea ca to her.
She wanted to officially reveal that big swindler’s fake mask at that ti, to let Grandpa see with his own eyes his scamming process! So, she volunteered, proactively asking to join Grandpa on that day to ’learn’ how to treat and save patients from Xiao Yi, eager to witness his supposed dical skills.
She knew that Grandpa would certainly agree to her request because she had always known that Grandpa wanted to introduce the big fraud to her. Moreover, she was the one who brought it up. Indeed, just as expected, as soon as she made the suggestion, Elder An agreed without any hesitation.
Thus, she waited eagerly for that day to co, but when it finally arrived, while she was waiting excitedly in Grandpa’s clinic with the patients, she was told by Grandpa that Xiao Yi’s phone was off, and he couldn’t be found.
At that mont, she beca even more convinced that he was a big scamr. He was now playing the disappearing act because he knew that it was ti for him to really act, and he simply didn’t have the capability, fearing his deception would be revealed!
So she openly shared her thoughts, and the patient seed to believe her completely, finding it quite convincing. He tried to persuade Elder An not to worry about his condition anymore, saying that he believed in Elder An’s abilities and if even Elder An couldn’t do anything, then surely no one else in the world could save him.
But her grandfather scolded her thoroughly, leaving her frustrated for many days.
She felt a deep-seated hatred for that big swindler called Xiao Yi, convinced that he must have brainwashed Grandpa with so kind of charm, which is why he had been so deluded, just like those cult followers.
"Nonsense!"
Elder An gave his granddaughter a displeased glare, then sighed seeing the disdain in his granddaughter’s eyes, "Lili, I don’t know why you have such a strong preconceived notion against Xiao Yi, but if you had seen his dical skills, you would know how exquisite his dicine really is."
"Ring, ring..."
No sooner had his words fallen than a mobile phone on his desk began to ring urgently.
Hearing the ringtone, Elder An didn’t care to say anything further, reaching for his phone and pressing the answer button, habitually saying, "Hello! This is An Jinhua!"
"Is this Grandpa An? I’m Xiao Yi."
Hearing Elder An’s voice, Xiao Yi quickly smiled and spoke up.
"Xiao Yi!"
Upon hearing Xiao Yi’s voice, Elder An imdiately stood up from his chair, his own voice shaking with excitent as his aged eyes filled with an excited gleam, "Xiao Yi, you’ve finally shown up!"
"I’m really sorry, Grandpa An, I’ve been caught up in so urgent matters these past few days, so urgent that I couldn’t even let you know before I left, and I also forgot to bring my cellphone. Hence, I wasn’t able to contact you at all, and for that, I’m truly very sorry!"
Listenting to Elder An’s incredibly excited voice, Xiao Yi couldn’t help but feel imnsely guilty.
For him, who had always placed great emphasis on promises, this was the second ti he had broken his word to this respectable old man, and he genuinely felt very ashad from the bottom of his heart.
"No worries, no worries. Now that you’re here, that’s all that matters, and it’s not too late. Xiao Yi, are you free these next couple of days?"
Elder An was very forgiving. He had always felt that Xiao Yi wouldn’t disappear without reason, and now understanding it was due to an ergency, he imdiately felt relieved. He didn’t hold any of Xiao Yi’s actions against him; what mattered most was that Xiao Yi had returned in the nick of ti!
If Xiao Yi had co back a month later, he would have been extrely distressed, because by then, the delay would have led to very serious consequences!
"I’m free. How is the patient doing now?"
If Elder An had reprimanded or scolded him, Xiao Yi might have felt a bit better. But the more understanding Elder An was, the more guilt Xiao Yi felt. However, at this mont, he didn’t have the ti or energy to dwell on his guilt. Upon hearing Elder An’s question, he imdiately realized it concerned the patient, who was Elder An’s primary concern. His attention quickly shifted back to the patient as he said directly.
"The situation is very dire. I conducted a western dical examination on him yesterday, and from the test results, his condition has clearly worsened; it’s even more serious than when I last reported it."
ntioning the patient, Elder An’s expression gradually beca solemn, "Alright, let make a phone call and ask the patient if he’s free this afternoon. If he is, Xiao Yi, you co over and check on him yourself this afternoon, will you?"
"Alright!"
Xiao Yi nodded. He understood the principle that saving a life was like putting out a fire, and he appreciated Elder An’s attitude toward treating and saving people.
"Great, then it’s settled. Xiao Yi, don’t put too much pressure on yourself. The patient is already psychologically prepared, and we can only do our best. If we can save him, that would be wonderful, but if we can’t, I know you will have done everything possible, and no one will bla you," Elder An said, a hint of fondness showing on his face as Xiao Yi agreed. But then he seed to rember sothing and spoke softly to Xiao Yi.
"I understand, rest assured, Elder An, I will do my utmost to treat the patient."
Xiao Yi nodded gratefully.
"Good. You’ve just returned, and you must have a lot to take care of, so I won’t keep you any longer. This afternoon, just go straight to the Provincial People’s Hospital and give them my na; they will take you straight to ."
Seeing Xiao Yi’s response, a reassured look appeared on Elder An’s face; he knew that when Xiao Yi said he would try his best, he truly ant it. (To be continued.
