"How much more is needed?"
Xiao Yi had long heard about many hospitals turning a blind eye to dying patients, but he never thought he would experience it himself. A mix of indescribable anger and sorrow suddenly surged in his heart, and after a while, he managed to suppress the urge to explode. He lifted his head and looked coldly at the nurse in front of him.
"Sir, I really have no choice. This is the hospital’s policy, and I’m just responsible for collecting the money."
For so reason, the nurse in charge of collecting the money felt an involuntary sense of fear when she t the gaze of Xiao Yi, a lanky young man of her own age, and subconsciously shrank back, murmuring her defense.
"I’m asking you, how much more money is needed."
Xiao Yi took a deep breath.
"Including the ergency surgery fee, the total prepaynt required is thirteen thousand yuan, and he only brought two thousand one hundred yuan."
The nurse looked at Xiao Yi’s eyes, feeling a chill in her heart, and quickly whispered.
"Swipe this card, the PIN is six zeros."
Xiao Yi didn’t say much, simply taking out a bank card and tossing it in, then he turned his head and gently patted Wang Dawei’s shoulder, whispering, "Second Uncle Wang, don’t worry, with here, Xiaohu will definitely be fine. I will do my best to save him."
"Xiao... Thank you so much."
Wang Dawei’s eyes moistened for a mont, trying to say sothing but choking up instead, wiping away tears before he could say, thank you.
"It’s nothing, just lending a helping hand. You stay here; I’ll make a phone call."
Xiao Yi gave his shoulder a gentle pat and then walked aside, took out his phone, and dialed An Yiqing, Elder An’s, number.
In his urgency just now, he had forgotten about Elder An. Now that he had cald down a little, he rembered that under the current circumstances, unless he forced his way in, Elder An was the only one who could allow him to see the injured person.
"Xiao Yi, you finally rembered this old man, I thought you had fooled this old man again last ti. How are you, when are you coming over to have a drink with this old man?"
The call connected quickly, and soon Divine Doctor An’s hearty voice ca through the phone.
"Grandpa An, sorry for the trouble, I’ve been a bit busy these days and haven’t had the chance to visit you yet, but I’ll definitely co over in the next few days. However, I have a bit of a situation today and need your help."
Xiao Yi spoke with so apology. He had promised Elder An to visit him last ti but hadn’t managed to find the ti yet.
"You’re not going to make diagnose again, are you?"
Elder An laughed humorously.
"Grandpa An is joking. I was rude last ti, and I’m truly sorry."
Xiao Yi’s face reddened slightly. He could tell Elder An was sowhat dissatisfied with his actions last ti. He had intended for Elder An to co and take revenge on a corrupt doctor but played a trick instead of being direct, causing Elder An to think he was dealing with a difficult case and called in the hospital’s top specialists from various departnts.
Looking back, he also felt sowhat impulsive.
"Haha, just kidding. There’s nothing rude about it. Actually, I should thank you. You gave a wake-up call last ti, a lesson. Without you, I wouldn’t have known that there were such worms in our dical team."
Elder An shook his head and sighed.
His sigh was not only for the doctor, but he also imdiately called for a eting at the hospital. He personally led a campaign to rectify the hospital’s atmosphere. Unbeknownst to them until they started investigating, the corruption and malpractice rampant in the hospital was so bad it took the old doctor, who had dedicated his whole life to dicine and held high ethical standards, by surprise.
"Grandpa An, please stop teasing . I was really too impulsive that day. I’ll apologize properly when I visit you next ti. There’s sothing today for which I need to trouble you."
Xiao Yi did not know what was on Elder An’s mind and thought he was still blaming him. He spoke with genuine sincerity to apologize once more before getting to the main point.
"What is it? You tell . If it is within my power, I will do my utmost to help you," Elder An said, having collected his thoughts, laughing heartily.
"It’s like this, I have a friend who has been seriously injured and is currently being resuscitated at Provincial People’s Hospital. I want to examine his injuries personally, but the doctors here don’t believe I am a doctor and won’t let near my friend. Could you please speak to them on my behalf and vouch for ?"
"Is that all? No problem, wait a mont."
Elder An agreed without any hesitation, saying he would place a call and was about to hang up, but just before he did, sothing seed to occur to him, and he asked, "What is the condition of your friend? Which departnt’s doctor is in charge?"
"I haven’t been able to see him yet, so I am not clear on his condition, but according to the nurses, he has suffered a knife wound that has injured his lungs and it’s quite serious," Xiao Yi quickly explained.
"Okay, a knife wound?"
Elder An was slightly taken aback when he heard it was a knife wound but then said, "Such injuries are not our traditional dicine’s forte. Wait a mont, I’ll call Zhang. He is a top expert in the trauma departnt. I’ll see if he’s available to lead the surgery personally for your friend."
Without waiting for Xiao Yi to say thanks, he hung up.
Shortly after, Xiao Yi’s phone rang. He glanced at the caller ID and quickly pressed the answer button, "Grandpa An."
"Xiao Yi, wait a mont. I’ve just called Zhang. He had just gotten ho, but he will head over now. He will make the arrangents for you when he arrives," Elder An’s hearty voice ca through.
"Grandpa An, I really can’t thank you enough."
Xiao Yi said with gratitude. Although Elder An spoke lightly, as if it were no big deal, Xiao Yi knew that getting soone regarded by Elder An as a top expert to return to work imdiately after just getting ho was more than an ordinary favor.
"Don’t ntion it, but since your friend has this kind of knife injury, there’s no need for this old bone of mine to co over. I probably wouldn’t be of much help anyway. That’s all then. I’ve already let the hospital know, so you go and see your friend," Elder An said nonchalantly before hanging up.
After putting down the phone, a wry smile couldn’t help but form on Xiao Yi’s face. This ti, he owed Elder An a huge favor, and he wasn’t sure how he would ever repay him.
In the duty doctor’s office, the doctor who had sternly reproved Xiao Yi was staring dumbly at the phone in his hand, unable to recover his wits for a long ti. He wondered if he had been dreaming.
