On Thursday, the first four-day exam officially ended. Our class, Class A, of the second year, also completed the exam with satisfactory results. While so students failed, they only failed on the last day, whereas no students failed on the first three days. This was a stark contrast to the first exam in our first year, where several students had already failed by the third day.

"It looks like everyone in this class has improved. So we're not the only ones practicing every day, huh?" I thought.

After completing the first exam, we went to the shopping area as usual to buy lots of food and drinks. Then we went to Chloe's dorm to celebrate.

-

At Chloe's dorm.

We chatted and discussed our successful completion of the first exam while enjoying the food and drinks. This ti, I was chatting with Noa.

"I didn't expect that in the first exam of the second year, we'd have to defeat a fighting doll made of soil," Noa said.

"Well, so soil is stronger than wood. Furthermore, this soil must have been strengthened by magic. So defeating it is quite difficult," I said.

"No, I thought we would be fighting puppets made of stone, iron, or other hard materials, but I didn't expect the fighting puppets we had to defeat to be made of such easily breakable materials," Noa said.

"It seems you've beco arrogant because you passed this exam so easily, Noa. If the fighting puppets we fought in our second years were made of iron, do you think you could defeat them?" I asked.

"No, I can't. I can't even cut iron right now," Noa said.

"That's why the academy decided to slightly increase the difficulty of this first exam by creating fighting dummies made of soil, which are slightly stronger than wood. Imagine if the academy unreasonably increased the difficulty of this second-year exam by imdiately using iron dummies. Even against soil dummies, so students still failed, so what about iron dummies? It seems like many students would fail this first exam. Then, next year, in the first exam, we'll have to defeat fighting dummies stronger than iron. Maybe we'll have to defeat steel dummies, or even diamonds, like you ntioned before. I can't imagine having to fight those," I said.

"But, do you think there's diamond magic out there? Steel magic is already extrely rare. So maybe the reason the academy didn't unreasonably increase the difficulty is because they couldn't create steel or diamond dummies for this first exam," Noa said.

"That's possible. Well, forget about this first exam, since we've already completed it. Let's enjoy this celebration now," I said.

"Yeah, you're right," Noa said.

About two months later, two weeks before the second exam.

In a room on the 7th floor of the central building.

I was currently with Senior Klara, the treasurer of Elevrad.

"So, this is roughly the total budget needed to hold the academy's tournant and festival," Senior Klara said, handing

a piece of paper containing the report.

I read the paper carefully.

"Elevrad still has so funds left over from the previous tournant and festival. The academy also provided so funds to Elevrad to host both events. But as you can see, the budget for both events isn't enough," Senior Klara said.

"There's quite a budget shortfall, isn't there? Since Elevrad has never charged tuition to students, that ans we have to seek additional funding from high-ranking nobles like the royal family or the dukes," I said.

"That's right, vice chairman. Every year, Elevrad receives financial support from high-ranking nobles, and fortunately, they consistently provide it. But of course, we have to submit a formal proposal to them first to get them to provide funding," said Senior Klara.

"I see. By the way, have you told Senior Florian about this budget, Senior?" I asked.

"No. I just told the vice chairman," said Senior Klara.

"Then, may I bring this report to discuss with Senior Florian?" I asked.

"Please do, vice chairman," said Senior Klara.

"Ok. By the way, please don't call

'vice chairman' like that, senior. For so reason, it makes

uncomfortable to hear a senior two levels above

call

'vice chairman'," I said.

"You'll have to get used to it, vice chairman. One day, you might be leading a group of people, so of whom will be much older than you. If they call you 'chairman' or 'leader', there's no way you'll still feel uncomfortable with that title," said senior Klara.

"Hmm, you have a point, senior. I guess I'll have to get used to it. Ok, I'll go to the main room to discuss this report with the chairman," I said.

"Ok, vice chairman," said senior Klara.

I left the room and went to the main room of Elevrad. When I arrived, I saw senior Florian and Princess Alia discussing sothing before they noticed .

"What do you need, vice chairman?" asked senior Florian.

"I didn't know Princess Alia was here too. I apologize for interrupting your conversation, seniors. If you'd like to continue, please do. I'll be back later," I said.

"We were discussing the planning of the academy tournant and festival, nothing personal. It seems you ca here to discuss that as well. So please join us," said Senior Florian.

"That's right, Rid. No, I ant vice chairman," said Princess Alia.

"Very well. Senior Florian is right, i have sothing to discuss regarding the planning of the tournant and festival," I said.

Then I explained the Elevrad budget that Senior Klara had previously explained to .

"I see. We still need quite a bit of funding for next year's tournant and festival. Alright, then I'll make a proposal to obtain financial assistance from the royal family and the Duke's family. Alia, you help

with that too," said Senior Florian.

"Yes, chairman," said Princess Alia.

"May I help you too, senior? I'd like to gain experience in writing formal proposals like this," I said.

"Alright, you may help with this proposal," said Senior Florian.

Then, Senior Florian, Princess Alia, and I began to draft the proposal in the room.

"I forgot to tell you this, Vice Chairman. Once this proposal is complete, it will be submitted directly to Miss Karina for signature. After that, it will be delivered to the residences of the royal family or the dukes. mbers of the Elevrad will deliver the proposal to their residences. Elevrad mbers with positions like you, Alia, and I must deliver this proposal to the royal family or the dukes. I plan to deliver this proposal after the second exam is over. Therefore, I hope you will be willing if I ask you to deliver this docunt to one of the dukes," said Senior Florian.

"Alright, senior, I will be willing if I am asked to deliver the proposal to one of the dukes' residences," I said.

"Thank you for your willingness, Vice Chairman. I will personally deliver the proposal to the royal family. Alia and Klara will deliver it to the rest of the Duke's family. Since there are four mbers of the Duke's family, and only Rid, Alia, and Klara are delivering it to the Duke's family, there's still one less person to deliver it. It looks like I'll have to appoint another person to deliver it later. But for now, it's best if we finish this proposal first," said Senior Florian.

One week before the second exam begins, at the second-year training ground.

We are currently studying at the training ground. Rather than calling it learning, we were simply practicing sparring. Mr. Alan suddenly left during our sparring session at the training ground, but a few minutes later he returned to the room carrying two boxes.

"Looks like it's ti to draw partners for the second exam," Charles said.

"So, will the exam be the sa as the first year, a two-on-two match?" Noa asked.

"I don't know, we'll see," I said.

We then approached Mr. Alan to hear his explanation clearly.

"As you can see from these two boxes, they contain pieces of paper with numbers that will determine your partners for this second exam. This second-year exam may seem similar to the first year exam because you'll be paired up again, but this exam will be different from the first year exam. Well, I can't explain that in detail; you'll just have to wait until the exam arrives."

"Now, it's ti to choose your partners for this exam. Rid, Irene, please co forward and take the papers," Mr. Alan said.

Irene and I stepped forward to pick up papers from different containers. anwhile, the other students looked nervous as Irene and I picked up the papers.

"I hope I can pair up with Rid,"

"I hope I can pair up with the Ice Princess,"

"Don't let Rid and the Ice Princess pair up. If they do, they'll be the strongest pair on this exam,"

"I'm scared if that happens,"

" too," said the students.

Irene and I finished picking up a paper. Then we looked at the number on the paper and showed it to Mr. Alan and the other students.

Unfortunately, as they feared, Irene and I got the sa number. That ans I'll be paired up with Irene on the second exam of the second year.
