"Finally Green!"
A boy in a neat delivery uniform riding a scooter sighed in relief after seeing the green traffic light ahead. His name was Liam, a lean boy with tousled black hair and tired eyes from all the work.
"A little later, and I might be late. Fortunately, after this last stop, I can go home and finish that novel: Return of the God."
He thought while pressing the start button on his scooter, accelerating straight, ready to reach his destination. Besides being a delivery driver for a living, he was an avid novel reader.
Well, that title was given to him by himself..
"But what should I read after finishing it? I will feel empty then. Damn, this addiction."
He cursed, feeling that he had to waste too much time finding a good novel again that catered to his taste.
"Sigh… forget it. Let's buy a can of beer, chips, and enjoy the read while I can, I guess."
He thought while accelerating a little faster to get out of this junction.
"Vrooom!"
However, just when he was almost out, suddenly, a loud noise came from his side, followed by a strong impact that threw him off his scooter towards the sidewalk.
"Screech!"
"Crash!"
"Thud!"
"Fuck!"
The impact was so strong that the boy was thrown off the road and directly collided with the fire hydrant head-on. Even with his helmet on, he felt his entire body was getting squished from head to toe.
"Ugh… bastard!"
He unconsiously clutched his head that was spouting red blood in stark contrast with water from the fire hydrant and cursed.
Due to the high adrenaline, even when his head was smashed like this, he managed to look behind only to see the car that crashed into him running away without looking back.
"Bas-tard…where… are you going…"
If the accident didn't spill much blood, then this certainly did as Liam spouted another mouthful of blood before dropping to the ground once again.
By now, he could feel many people gathering around, some calling police, some calling ambulances, and some talking among themselves in amusement.
However, slowly, as the adrenaline wore off, his vision and hearing began to deteriorate, and extreme pain started bombarding his senses.
Now, he couldn't move a muscle as he basically lay on the ground, trying to conjure up his thoughts but failing miserably.
Just as his vision disappeared and he was about to faint, he managed to spout one last word before collapsing to the ground.
"Fuck! I don't even have insurance."
…
"Ugh… my head!"
Liam didn't know how long he was unconscious, but when he awoke, he felt an extreme pain throughout his body.
And weirdly, the pain was most intense on the back of his neck as he felt like something thin but sharp had pierced through his skin.
"Shit.. did I crash into a shard of glass or what?"
He mumbled, annoyed, only to stop suddenly as soon as he opened his eyes.
"Where am I?"
He asked seemingly to no one while looking around the room he was in, which was quite small, just enough for a single person to live in.
It had a single bed, a cluttered desk, and a small window overlooking the outside with nothing else.
'Why the heck am I not in the hospital? Did they throw me away because I don't have insurance?'
Liam thought with surprise and looked behind inadvertently only to get scared shitless.
"What the fuck!"
He couldn't help but curse loudly while hurriedly backing away as he looked at the grotesque silhouette that was slowly dissolving into nothingness on his bed.
"What is that?"
After realizing that the creature in front was dead, Liam breathed a sigh of relief, controlled his surprise, and looked carefully.
"A Spider?"
He was sure the creature was similar to a Spider, but this one was bigger—bigger than the tarantula he had seen on the Internet.
Moreover, its appearance was scary as hell as its multiple eyes were clearly focused on him with intense hatred, while the slowly dissolving body made it even more scary.
"Where heck am I-ugh…"
Just when Liam was panicking out, a sudden flux of information bombarded his mind, making him disoriented.
Then came the rows upon rows of information that seemed to be part of him yet so distant.
It didn't take long for Liam to digest that information, but once he did, he stood gobsmacked as if utterly flabbergasted.
'Liam Korrith, a fresh student of the Fiend Slayer Academy. An orphan that awakened the class-Assasine and was lucky enough to get a pity quota.'
'Wait a minute… Fiend Slayer Academy? Isn't this the starting place of that story?'
The more he digested the information, the more he felt something was wrong.
"What the heck…Did I transmigrate into a novel?"
Liam suddenly realized then hurriedly took the small mirror from the cluttered table in front and quickly looked at his face, and visibly sighed in relief.
'Fortunately, the name and face of this guy are similar to mine, but… why don't I remember this name appearing in that novel: Return of God?'
He thought confused and began to recall his memories carefully.
However, the more he recalled, the more he became speechless, as at last he finally looked at the corpse of the Spider that nearly disappeared.
"Gloom-Spider, a lesser fiend!"
He mumbled,
"So, this guy was attacked by this monster when he was performing a forbidden ritual and poisoned to death in retaliation?"
Liam suddenly grabbed the back of his neck where he felt the piercing pain before and flinched unconsciously. Fortunately, after his transmigration, the wound had pletely disappeared, and so did the poison.
"In conclusion, I am an extra who got killed by a lesser fiend in his own room while doing shady things?"
Liam twitched the corner of his mouth speechlessly as the realization dawned on him.
