93 Chapter 92: Reporting to the son of heaven
Xiu!
Damon’s eyes slowly opened and he found himself on his bed but this ti in another room. Just by realizing the position of the room door was not in the sa position he knew he had been moved to a new room, but that is only logical. It should happen this way!
He gazed at his left arm only to realize it had been reattached but there was no one in the room, it was just him and a note left for him on the bed.
Damon picked it up, read it, and crushed it before tossing outside through the window. His actions resembled the actions Damon has been making all his life but this ti sothing was different and people couldn’t notice because no one was there. This ti, Damon had a face void of all forms of emotions. He was in the mode he enters when using the death magic by default now.
Thinking about it, he considered a few things and frowned. He could rember the part of the vision he saw about the old death mages and as expected, they all once used the creation pathway while the life mage always used the destruction pathway.
Life and death use the opposite pathways for their power but this ti it was different. Damon had learned both the creation and destruction pathways. There was nothing else he needed to bother himself with concerning his steps since he was still on the right track and beyond.
“Every morning a mber of the royal knights will walk up to my door and engage in a life and death battle. Every single morning... I must say, his majesty really has his way of training a person and it is quite effective” Damon muttered coldly.
He had no ti to fraternize with the enemy. Just like Sol had explained, these people were not innately bad but no matter what he does, should they find out his death magic, they won’t hesitate to turn on him. Until their mission is complete and the old gods are dead, the only ones he can trust are fellow hosts.
“Lucy...” Damon frowned.
.....
His girlfriend was probably serving in the city guards for all he knows and she is the only person who is not a host that knows about his identity.
Thoughts of killing her crossed Damon’s mind as he considered what to do next. Just like Sol said, only the other hosts cannot be influenced by the old gods. Lucy is yet to reveal his identity because the old gods don’t even know he exists now. But once they find out the plot of the new gods, they will work through her.
She may have to die, for the sake of victory.
Those thoughts plagued Damon’s mind and for an entire day, he sat in the sa position and never moved. He remained in that ditative position the entire day as he cleared his mind and tried to plan out his next set of moves. Ignoring the breakfast and lunch taken to him and only consuming dinner.
...........
“How is he doing after the first day?” The son of heaven asked while sitting on his throne in the royal court.
The other nobles and Archmage Kratos with Pope Light gazed at the maid with interesting looks, they wished to know Damon’s reaction when he realized the emperor’s plans for him.
“He read the letter but simply threw it outside without hesitation. There was no reaction from him and there has been no reaction from him ever since. He has been ditating and has only eaten dinner... I can’t see through that boy’s mind!” The female maid said with a deep bow.
She has been the one serving Damon’s needs for a while now and the look in Damon’s eyes was not sothing a child his age should have. She seed terrified of him.
“Good! Good! That kid adjusts really fast. Did he find out that the food was drugged and ant to weaken him before fights? Or is this purely out of instincts?” The son of heaven muttered as he pondered. Even without Damon present, if one looked into his eyes they would see Damon’s figure in the eyes of their sovereign. To think a nobody would practically make the strongest human in the world think this deeply.
“Tomorrow is another day, we will see how he does. Since he did well the first ti there are no issues but even if he eats only at night, he will still be affected by the drugs but just at a lower quantity... it should still do” the son of heaven decided and cald down.
“Your majesty, he picked the creation and destruction pathways...” the female maid added, and only then did the calm emperor frown.
He purposefully had normal pathways and incredible sort out ones be put together. He planned on seeing which Damon would pick but he never expected Damon to pick the common ones. Those who use the creation pathway or the destruction pathway are usually the commoners who can’t afford more expensive pathways. In the sovereign’s mind, this was a waste but he didn’t voice his opinion. Everyone had a part to play in life, If soone as smart and talented as Damon picked those pathways then it was because he was drawn to it. Regardless of what the emperor may have done, Damon probably would have stumbled on those two and chosen them, they are his destiny.
Unfortunately, the other nobles didn’t think this way and many began mocking him in court and laughing as they considered him the dumbest person in history to waste an opportunity given to him by the emperor. None openly lanted about this wasted opportunity that should be given to their kids, instead, they thought of these things in their minds.
“As his fight earlier today?” The son of heaven spoke but this ti he wasn’t talking to the Archmage Kratos.
“It was intense and lasted for quite a while. Damon Ross only lost an arm and took so major damages but the royal knights did not go unscathed too. In the end, he was forced to release his pathway and prepared to battle Damon to the death... I am not sure who the final victor would have been if I didn’t step in!” Kratos answered honestly and with a deep bow which silenced the entire court.
The weakest royal guard was at least in the warrior realm and even the weakest amongst them can find their way around foes far stronger than them. They are the most elite of the elites, yet the arch mage dared to say he wasn’t sure who would have been the winner of the battle between Damon and the royal knight.
Even if he didn’t want to directly complint Damon, that was a major praise, especially coming from the arch mage!
“Ooh?” The deed light in the eyes of his emperor lit up once again with excitent.
“If your majesty allows this lowly servant to add what she noticed from her observation!” The maid requested.
“Speak!” The hall trembled like lightning under the voice of the sovereign.
“The royal knight sent out today was overwheld by his destructive capabilities. After he created over thirty living wolf avatars and had them detonate constantly, even the royal knight could barely fight back against it. No one would have thought he could spread his consciousness amongst thirty spells at once. That’s why the royal knight lost. For the next battle, I would like to request that I be his opponent!” The maid said calmly while the emperor frowned.
He pondered on everything that happened for a short while before nodding. If what the maid said is true then Damon must have been truly made for the creation and destruction pathway. No one would have thought he would be able to spread his consciousness across thirty spells, not even the emperor is capable of that.
“Is that even possible?” The son of heaven couldn’t help but ask with a deep frown.
For soone who has lived for centuries, he has never co across sothing like this so it was only natural for him to be skeptical.
“The young lad has always had a strong mind.” Pope Light said coldly gaining the attention of many.
“Yea, on his first task as a student, he fought against orc scouts and was able to combine the wind and fire elent during their battle, even though he was badly hurt. That takes a lot of ntal fortitude and he has proven to have quite a lot of it” arch mage Kratos recalled.
“Did you forget the fact he has enough ntal strength to prevent a transformation? He never transford into a werewolf until he wanted to. Not even the full moon or the moonstone could force him to transform. Honestly, this shouldn’t be shocking to us” Duke Hail said with a calm look on his face.
In fact, he even had a small smile. So far, Damon has not disappointed his expectations so why would he be sad? A mber of the Hail family should never be defeated easily, even if it is against a royal guard!
“Only if Jean was half as good as him, I would have been able to test easy” Duke Hail muttered to himself with a bitter smile.
