Seeing the woman’s face, she stared in surprised disbelief.
That familiar visage stirred her sparse yet profound mories, flickering in her mind like an old film. She opened her mouth to call out the familiar na when Zhen Cheng suddenly leapt from his chair.
"Ms. Jin."
Hearing Zhen Cheng’s call, Ji Anning ca to her senses, stood up, and looked at the familiar girl with a smile on her face, "Yuanyuan."
This friend, despite not having spent much ti together, provided a reunion that was surprisingly more thrilling and joyful than expected.
If Ji Anning hadn’t taken the initiative to greet her, Jin Yuanyuan might have chosen to respond with just a slight smile, since she felt the gap between them was growing ever wider.
Ji Anning was a major star regularly featured on news headlines and global magazine covers.
anwhile, she was a country teacher without even a ager salary; the transformation and hardships over the years had taken away her forr boldness and vivacity.
She had beco noticeably subdued.
Looking at Ji Anning, Jin Yuanyuan also curled up the corners of her mouth in a smile, "Anning."
Her tone wasn’t as alien as she had anticipated.
"It’s been so long, what are you doing here?" Ji Anning was still surprised. She stepped forward, looked down at Zhen Cheng holding one of Jin Yuanyuan’s hands, and asked in confusion, "Who is this?"
"My student." Jin Yuanyuan looked down, affectionately stroked Zhen Cheng’s head, and continued to tell Ji Anning, "He is going to have a minor surgery on his eyes soon, I brought him for a pre-surgery check-up."
"Oh," Ji Anning nodded in understanding.
She rembered that Zhen Cheng had ntioned his teacher was buying him fruit.
She just hadn’t expected his teacher would turn out to be Jin Yuanyuan, what a coincidence.
At that mont, Fenfen ca over too, "Mommy."
The little girl called Ji Anning and, raising her small hand to hold Ji Anning’s, looked up curiously at Jin Yuanyuan.
Jin Yuanyuan stared at Fenfen, a flash of astonishnt in her eyes, "This is?"
"This is my daughter Fenfen," Ji Anning replied, then bent down slightly, whispering into Fenfen’s ear with one hand pointing at Jin Yuanyuan, "Fenfen, this is Mommy’s friend, say auntie."
"Auntie."
Fenfen obediently called Jin Yuanyuan.
Jin Yuanyuan laughed with emotion, "Your daughter is so big already."
She glanced at Fenfen’s plump cheeks, extrely cute and very much resembling Ji Anning. She added, "I saw it on the news before, I thought it was fake."
Her words had no other implication, it was purely a comnt, and Ji Anning felt it deeply, "It’s true, she’s almost three years old now."
"How co you’re here?" Jin Yuanyuan, realizing the hospital setting, asked Ji Anning curiously.
"Fenfen’s eyes..." Ji Anning was weighing how to tell Jin Yuanyuan about Fenfen’s blind eye.
Fenfen suddenly spoke up and took the words from her, "Auntie, I can’t see with this eye."
Her small hand pointed at her right eye, informing Jin Yuanyuan.
Her voice was crisp, and her bright, clear eyes showed not a hint of insecurity or sadness.
She didn’t act as if having a physical imperfection was a matter of concern.
Ji Anning felt a pang of heartache, holding onto the little girl’s hand tighter, and upon receiving Jin Yuanyuan’s astonished gaze, she pursed her lips tightly, confirming that what Fenfen said was true.
Jin Yuanyuan was still very surprised, unable to comprehend, and even... unable to accept, as she looked down at Fenfen’s shining eyes.
