’Hss’

When she stepped down to the next stair, her hand pressed against a small shard of glass, and she trembled slightly from the pain.

Then, she opened her palm, and saw the glass shard embedded in her flesh, with fresh red blood rapidly seeping out.

She dropped the rag.

Suddenly, heavy footsteps ca from behind her, and she turned her head to look.

The handso man held a glass full of water in his attractive hands, and his gorgeous face was void of any expression.

His gaze was one of noble indifference.

He approached step by step, passing by Ji Anning.

The heavy footsteps seed to trample on Ji Anning’s heart, causing it to uncontrollably sink bit by bit.

’Clack’

When the man reached the fourth step above her, his fingers loosened slightly, and the glass he was holding fell to the ground, shattering upon impact.

The cup’s water flowed down, and a few droplets splashed onto Ji Anning’s face.

She stared dazedly at the man who continued to ascend without looking back, feeling her heart plunge into an abyss the mont his cup hit the ground.

As the water reached below her knees and she felt its coolness, she slowly withdrew her gaze.

Bowing her head to see her reflection in the pool of water gathering at her knee, she curved her lips into a smile brighter than the sun, a smile that stung her eyes.

...

"Grandfather, thank you."

"You are not allowed to do this again."

"I understand."

Ji Chicheng gently pushed open the old man’s room door, and the voices of Ji Xiangting and the elder drifted out.

He paused in his steps.

But Ji Zhengdao was sharp enough to detect soone’s arrival. His gaze turned towards the door, and upon seeing Ji Chicheng, his aged face imdiately brightened with a kind and benevolent smile.

"Chengcheng."

He set down the book in his hands and rose to greet him with a warm smile.

"Dad." Ji Chicheng nodded to the elder and then looked past him to Ji Xiangting.

A flash of coldness swept quickly through the depths of his profound eyes.

Ji Xiangting smiled slightly at him, "Uncle."

She always wanted to ingratiate herself with this arrogantly aloof uncle.

After all, in this family, he was the only one who could compete with Ji Jingfeng.

Ji Chicheng did not respond to Ji Xiangting, his indifference moving his gaze away from her face.

Seeing this, the elder glanced back and said to Ji Xiangting, "Xiangting, you can leave now."

"Alright."

Ji Xiangting answered and then left. As she passed Ji Chicheng, she clenched her teeth and scowled resentfully.

Every ti, it was her warm approach against his cold indifference.

After Ji Xiangting went out and shut the door, Ji Zhengdao took Ji Chicheng’s arm and walked toward the sofa, asking with a slight smile as they walked, "How are you adjusting to the new position at the school?"

Ji Chicheng nodded and uttered a faint "Hmm."

"Are you hungry? I’ll make you a bowl of noodles."

Ji Zhengdao suddenly stopped and looked at Ji Chicheng to ask.

He often cooked personally just for Ji Chicheng; this kind of treatnt was unique to him alone.

"Not hungry, you should go to bed early, I’m going to take a shower in my room."

Reaching the edge of the sofa, Ji Chicheng did not sit down but instead took his leave after greeting Ji Zhengdao.

The elder didn’t keep him, and after walking him to the door like seeing off a child, he said, "Go to sleep early, there’s milk in the thermostatic box, rember to drink it."

"Hmm."

Ji Chicheng nodded and headed towards his room.

After the elder closed the door, Ji Chicheng’s stepping foot hesitated for a mont before finally falling.
