...

L City, dawn was breaking.

Many journalists subsequently learned that Charles was to hold his wedding at ho today; they longed to witness the wedding splendor and nab explosive scoops for their reports, but Charles’s residence was sealed off for several miles around, not even a small bird could fly in.

Let alone people or cars.

The guards were all ard.

No one wasn’t curious about who Charles’s bride was, a sacred figure. So said it was the female anchor who had once entered Charles’s ho for an interview; others speculated it was the female star Charles had hidden at ho for two years.

Charles had done an excellent job keeping the wedding a secret; those invited dared not leak the slightest bit of information.

In a single day, Charles’s backyard had been transford into a romantic wedding hall.

Multicolored roses filled the air with their fragrance.

The guests arriving for the wedding had already reached Charles’s ho the day before, all related to Charles’s family one way or another.

Early in the morning, the downstairs was bubbling with excitent. Ji Anning, barefoot and dressed in loose pajamas, stood in front of the window, which was open, but the lively atmosphere couldn’t touch her lonely heart.

Cold wind blew in gusts, turning her nose sour, and in the azure sky, she couldn’t see the edge, couldn’t see her beloved uncle across the ocean, couldn’t see her darling Fenfen.

From now on, they really... really would drift further and further apart.

The sound of knocking ca from behind her. Ji Anning lowered her eyes, sighed softly in her heart. The person knocking did so a few tis, and without receiving a response, he also pushed open the door.

"Jiajia."

That voice, that call!

Ji Anning suddenly turned her head to look, the white-haired elder, her face calm as she gazed at her. The old lady’s face had more signs of ti than Ji Anning rembered.

"Mom."

Finally, her lonely heart found a trace of solace. Her eyes reddened as she rushed toward her mother and hugged her tightly.

Her mother also raised her hands to embrace her. They held each other in silence; no words were necessary.

At that mont, for Ji Anning, the hug of a familiar person was a kind of solace; it at least prevented her from feeling as if she was alone in the world.

"Don’t cry now, you should be happy today."

After a while, her mother’s calloused hands patted her back, trying to soothe her.

From the tone of her mother, Ji Anning could tell that the elderly woman didn’t mind her marrying Charles, an old man many years her senior.

She thought that in her mother’s heart, marrying an old man must be better than committing incest with her own uncle.

If she considered it from an outsider’s perspective, it was indeed so; therefore, she couldn’t resent her mother’s attitude.

Ji Anning didn’t speak, released her arms, and stepped back from her mother’s embrace. While wiping her tears, she led her mother to sit, saying, "Mom, please sit for a while, I’m going to wash up."

She guided her mother to sit on the bed.

The mother, accustod to simplicity, sat on the bed, her gaze traveling around the room sowhat uncomfortably.

Ji Anning gave her a deep look, then turned and went into the bathroom.

’Knock, knock, knock’

Just as she closed the bathroom door, there was another knock. She squeezed out so toothpaste and answered the door, "Co in."

The person outside, having received her permission, entered her room. Seemingly aware that she was in the bathroom, they stood at the bathroom door, saying, "Miss Niannian, are you ready on your end? Can the makeup artist and stylist co in now?"

"...Yes."

These days, every minute and every second, had been extrely torturous. Let it pass quickly; once it’s all done and irrevocable, there will be nothing left to pine for.
