The night had enveloped the entire island in darkness, eerie like a scene from a horror film.
After paying the yacht fee, Ji Anning leapt from the yacht and followed the concrete path towards the heart of the island.
Approaching the villa that stood alone, bathed in light, she slowed her pace, stopping at the entrance.
"Sister Zhang..."
A familiar female voice suddenly ca from inside the house, causing a sharp and painful sting in Ji Anning’s heart.
Once, that voice had always been so gentle and kind to her, filled with tenderness and care.
So it’s often said that the truth is cruel.
"Miss Anning."
Suddenly, Sister Zhang erged from the house, standing in the doorway. She stared at Ji Anning for quite so ti before recognizing her.
The old woman was very surprised.
"Anning!"
Hearing Sister Zhang’s call, Yang Yufang ca out of the house excitedly. She glanced outside the courtyard gate before quickening her pace with excitent.
"Anning."
At the entrance, she opened the heavy iron gate, stepped forward, and attempted to embrace Ji Anning.
"Don’t co any closer," Ji Anning warned Yang Yufang coldly, stepping back.
"Anning... I..."
Yang Yufang missed the embrace and stood disheartened and saddened, opening her mouth to say sothing, only to be interrupted by Ji Anning.
Ji Anning glanced at Sister Zhang still standing at the entrance, suppressing the words she was about to say. She spoke indifferently to Yang Yufang, "Let’s go inside first."
Saying this, she stepped forward into the courtyard, walking ahead of Yang Yufang.
The vast living room was neat and tidy, yet devoid of any vibrancy, dead and oppressive.
Ji Anning entered, removed her shoes, and headed straight for the stairs.
She went upstairs and entered the room she had once lived in—the arrangent inside remained unchanged from her previous stay.
"Anning, have you eaten? I’ll ask Sister Zhang to make sothing for you," Yang Yufang asked as she followed Ji Anning into the room and closed the door. She rubbed her hands together nervously and cautiously approached Ji Anning with concern.
Ji Anning replied in a cold tone, "Don’t bother, I’m not eating."
Yang Yufang looked at her with shimring eyes, "Anning, your mother has missed you so much."
She tried to step closer to Ji Anning, but Ji Anning deliberately avoided her.
She coldly said, "I don’t bla you for everything you’ve done to . I just hope that you continue to conceal all that, just like before... I am rely your adopted daughter-in-law, and now, I am your forr daughter-in-law."
Upon hearing this, Yang Yufang beat her chest in pain, "Anning, I am your biological mother."
"It doesn’t matter to anymore. There’s very little I care about—Fenfen, and..." Ji Anning paused, looked at Yang Yufang, and continued, "also my uncle."
This was the first ti she had openly and straightforwardly spoken about her relationship with Ji Chicheng to soone else.
Her tone was firm and forthright.
Yang Yufang beca agitated again, "You cannot be with Ji Chicheng, you need to be with Jingfeng."
"Ji Jingfeng?" Ji Anning raised an eyebrow with a cold laugh, "Hah, do you even know, your precious son once ca close to taking my life? Do you know how much coercion and insult I’ve endured from him?"
Yang Yufang shook her head in disbelief, "How could that be? Why would Jingfeng hurt you?"
"You’re actually not as smart as I thought," Ji Anning said, weary of recounting to Yang Yufang how Ji Jingfeng had once treated her.
