He had always been troubled about why he paid such inexplicable attention to Anning and missed her so much.

He hated her for cruelly hurting his good friend, yet he couldn’t help caring for her, feeling pity for her, and indulging her.

He didn’t know what he really wanted or what he was trying to do, as if he had entered a dead end and couldn’t find a way out.

It was not until this mont that he realized he had fallen, thoroughly fallen, in the most absurd and illogical way.

He said, "Little girl, be strong, be independent, be selfish."

Because when you’re vulnerable, you need protection, and you make others feel heartache, I fear I might fall even deeper.

He feared his brotherly bond with Chicheng that spanned so many years would deteriorate.

He didn’t want to see that day co.

"Yes," Anning cried uncontrollably, "I deserve it."

"It’s not your fault, stop thinking nonsense," Qi Helian said as he patted Anning’s back, his other hand cradling the back of her head, letting her lean on his shoulder.

Not far away, in another black car, with the windshield wipers working at high speed, the man inside, a pair of gloomy black eyes, stared at the man and woman embracing each other in the rain.

The hands holding the steering wheel, veins bulging on the back of his hands.

After a while, he closed his eyes, reached for the gearshift, and reversed.

He backed the car out of their sight.

Glancing at the gradually disappearing warning lights, he let go of Anning and bent down to pick up an umbrella from the ground to shield her from the rain, "Get in the car, don’t stand in the rain anymore."

Anning nodded, wiping the tears and rain off her face.

She followed Qi He into the car.

...

Caught in a heavy rain during her nstrual period, Anning consequently fell seriously ill, running a high fever for two days and nights.

Her mouth parched and her tongue scorched, she wanted to drink water.

She groggily reached out, groping for a cup on the bedside table.

’Thud’

She knocked sothing over, and at the ’thud,’ she beca a bit more alert, opened her eyes, and glanced at the floor. It was the water cup.

The water inside had spilled onto the floor, but the cup wasn’t broken.

Anning stretched out her arm, trying to pick up the cup.

Just then, a tall and steady figure entered through the door, "I’ll get it for you, whatever you need."

She looked up in surprise at the familiar, mature male voice. The man, about fifty years old, dressed in a dark grey suit, still exuded elegance and nobility even with hurried steps.

She opened her mouth in astonishnt, "Mr. Charles."

Charles walked to Anning’s bed, picked up the cup from the floor, and asked her with a slight smile, "Do you want so water?"

Anning bent her pale lips politely, not wanting to trouble him, "I can get it myself."

Charles ignored her, turned around to pour a cup of water from outside, and said as he walked, "You young people are always so irresponsible with your own health, how are you going to take care of Fenfen like this?"

He chided Anning softly like an elder.

Anning did not pick up on Charles’s words, smiled, and changed the subject, "Mr. Charles, what brings you here?"

Charles said, "I saw the news about you in J City, how could I allow our Charles family’s Fenfen to go to the Ji Family?"

His voice carried a bone-chilling coldness.

As he spoke, he walked to the bed, intending to place the water cup on the bedside table and then smiled at Anning again, "Drink."

Charles had co for Fenfen, he intended to fight with his uncle for Fenfen, which made Anning anxious.
