Just then, her phone in the bag rang again. She unzipped it, glanced inside, and saw that it was a call from Qi Helian. She picked up the phone and hung up.
When she looked back at the old man, she found him frowning and pondering sothing about her pocket.
She asked in confusion, "Grandpa?"
Her grandfather’s train of thought was interrupted. Regaining his focus, he asked Ji Anning, "So, are you still going out?"
"Yes," Ji Anning nodded. "I still need to go to school. I have classes tonight."
Facing her grandfather, she already felt guilty enough, and now she was lying to him, her palms and back were starting to sweat.
Upon hearing this, the old man didn’t ask further and motioned to the driver in front, "Old Chen, take her."
Worried about wasting ti, Ji Anning didn’t refuse. She nodded, humd a yes, thanked him, then opened the car door and got in.
...
"Is it really that simple?"
Qi Helian stepped out of the elevator and stopped in his tracks, amusedly sizing up Ji Anning waiting at the VIP lounge entrance.
Ji Anning was wearing a thick camo down jacket, white snow boots, dragging a pink suitcase, and had a large black backpack slung over her shoulders.
The very picture of a student.
Qi Helian thought if he were to be seen with her, people might mistake him for soone with a middle schooler in tow.
Confused, Ji Anning blinked, "What else should it be?"
"Nothing," Qi Helian said with a smile, shaking his head, then resud walking. "Let’s go."
He approached Ji Anning without stopping and walked straight into the lounge, Ji Anning turning to follow in his footsteps.
"Mr. Qi."
Suddenly, soone called out to Qi Helian from behind, a sweet-sounding woman’s voice, prompting Ji Anning to instinctively step aside and widen the distance between herself and Qi Helian.
She feared it might be Qi Helian’s new or old fla, or perhaps his current one.
The sound of high heels echoed closer, and just the sound of those steps brought to mind the words "dignified and elegant."
"Is this a new recruit from your company?"
The tall woman, dressed in a light blue wool coat, carried a bag on one arm and held glasses in the other, ca to a stop between Qi Helian and Ji Anning. She surveyed Ji Anning politely.
Then she turned to Qi Helian, seemingly intrigued.
Qi Helian responded with a question of his own, "Does she look pretty?"
He reached out to pull Ji Anning to his side, pretending to be affectionate.
Ji Anning excitedly looked at the beautiful woman before her, because she was her only favorite actress, Xian Xinrong.
She was the only actress in the entertainnt industry without any scandals or negative press, a talented perforr whose path to fa was very inspiring to her.
In the past, she had taken her as a role model, to motivate herself.
"Anyone whom Mr. Qi allows by his side must be either a lady of noble birth or a gem of a girl," she said to Qi Helian, then gave Ji Anning a slight smile after finishing her sentence.
Her gaze returned to Qi Helian, and she smiled charmingly again, "Changing styles this ti, huh?"
Qi Helian frowned and got serious, "Stop talking nonsense, you might scare the kid."
"Pfft!"
Xian Xinrong covered her mouth and gave a light chuckle, then raised a hand to wave at Qi Helian, "I won’t chat with you any longer, I’m boarding now."
With that, she stepped ahead of them.
The echoing footsteps and her tall, straight silhouette conveyed an air of confidence.
Watching her, Ji Anning couldn’t help but exclaim, "She really does have a great presence."
