Turned off the lights and lay down.
...
The black Maserati sped along the deserted Bintar Avenue at night; the faster the car went, the more urgent the driver’s heart must have been.
Suddenly, the cell phone on the passenger seat rang.
He glanced at it and then put on the Bluetooth headset to answer, "Beige."
It was his secretary, Beige.
Hearing his voice, Beige wasted no ti on small talk and went straight to the point, "Boss, the internal testing and debugging are all set, we’re just waiting for you to go live."
Ji Chicheng heard this, looked at his wristwatch, hesitated for a mont, and then said, "Book a flight for six hours from now."
"Okay."
After Beige’s response, he hung up the call, pressed the gas pedal deeper, and increased the speed of the car even more.
...
Awake in an unfamiliar environnt, Ji Anning didn’t know how long she had tossed and turned before falling asleep. The ringing of the cell phone felt noisy and annoying.
Without turning on the light, she fumbled for quite so ti before finally finding her cell phone on the nightstand. She didn’t even look, just felt for the familiar phone and found the answer button, holding it to her ear, "Hello?"
"Asleep?"
A familiar male voice ca from the other end, and with her eyes closed, she humd a drowsy "Hmm" in response.
She was too sleepy to even muster the strength to speak; she turned over and said, "Uncle, I’m so sleepy, so sleepy."
"Then... go back to sleep."
Ji Anning, who was struggling to stay awake, felt a great relief hearing Ji Chicheng’s words, murmured a soft ’Hmm,’ and then let go of the phone.
"Cover yourself with the blanket well."
The familiar male voice lingered in her half-dreaming, half-awake state.
Watching the phone screen go dark, Ji Chicheng smiled helplessly.
Even if I don’t keep my promises, huh.
It took him a while to look up, as he reluctantly gazed at the dark silhouette of the island.
He turned around and entered the cabin.
...
"I’ll be in N city for about a week. In a couple of days, the old man will send soone to pick you up; you should then follow them back ho."
When Ji Anning woke up in the morning, that was the ssage she received from Ji Chicheng.
Seeing that Ji Chicheng was going to N city, she sprang up, rubbed her sleepy eyes still in her nightclothes, and looked at the ssage again; it was still the sa.
She imdiately dialed his number, but the response was ’The user you are calling has switched off their phone.’
The last ti he returned from N city, he had told her that there was only one circumstance when he would switch off his phone, and that was when he was on a plane.
So, now that his phone was switched off, was he already on a plane?
At this thought, Ji Anning’s lips sank into a frown, and she stared at the ssage Ji Chicheng had sent her for a long while before her lips curled up again, and she muttered discontentedly, "Why does he always just up and leave without warning?"
It was as if he always appeared by her side unexpectedly.
She was about to reply to Ji Chicheng with a text, but then she rembered that he wouldn’t be able to see it on the plane, so she decided not to send it.
The temperature on the island wasn’t high in the morning; after washing up, Ji Anning simply threw on a woolen coat over her nightclothes and went downstairs.
"Anning, you’re awake. Co have breakfast."
Yang Yufang waited at the stairs for Ji Anning, stepping forward with a gentle smile as she saw her coming down.
"Mom."
Ji Anning quickened her steps too.
Before she even reached Yang Yufang, a cool voice ca from behind her, "Ji Anning, don’t tell you’re starting to think of this place as your own ho?"
At the sound of his voice, Ji Anning’s smile beca strained for a mont. She turned around to see Ji Jingfeng coming downstairs, casually dressed in a leisure jacket with his hands tucked into the pockets of his jeans, descending the stairs with a languid gait.
