"Wait a mont." An Ying saw that he had already stepped down with one foot and took a step forward, shoving the bag in her hand into Doctor Huang’s arms. Noticing his puzzled expression, she explained, "Thank you for your kindness, but I already borrowed it from a friend today."

Doctor Huang looked down at the money in his arms, his expression showing a hint of disappointnt. Then he tentatively asked, "Where is your friend from?"

An Ying had lived here for decades, and neither he nor the neighbors had ever seen her with any friends, let alone close neighbors. So when An Ying ntioned a "friend," Doctor Huang felt a tinge of crisis.

For years, he had never dared to express his feelings for An Ying. It was only recently that they had more ti together, and An Ying did not seem to reject him. Therefore, any slight changes around An Ying made him anxious, fearing that the woman he had secretly loved for years would be taken away.

An Ying didn’t expect him to ask this question. After a brief pause, she answered sowhat awkwardly, "H City."

Doctor Huang noticed her unnatural deanor and felt a void in his heart. Boldly, he continued to ask, "Is your friend male or female?"

He knew the question was a bit abrupt, but he couldn’t help wanting to know the answer.

An Ying t his gaze, unwilling to deceive him, she slightly parted her lips, about to speak.

"Haha, I’m just asking casually. Since you don’t need it now, I’ll be on my way." Doctor Huang hesitated as he spoke.

"Alright." An Ying didn’t say anything more.

After he went downstairs, An Ying slowly closed the door.

During this ti, Doctor Huang had been very considerate towards her. It felt quite cruel to let down such a good person, and An Ying couldn’t help but sigh deeply.

She recalled that after the fire at the bookstore, when she fainted from the shock, it was Doctor Huang who took her to the hospital and was busy helping her.

She had a fatal flaw since childhood—she was soft-hearted.

Her daughter inherited that from her!

Thinking of her daughter, a trace of softness appeared on An Ying’s worried face.

As her daughter grew older, her desire to understand her own background beca more urgent. The scene of her daughter secretly rummaging through her drawer last ti was still vivid in her mind. It was entirely possible that one day, her daughter might ask her directly!

The thought of this scenario made An Ying’s breath hitch.

If, if her daughter were to ask her face-to-face, who her real father was, what would she do?

An Ying couldn’t help but tremble slightly, curling herself into a ball, wrapping her arms around herself, burying her head in the corner of the sofa. Then, she pulled a thin blanket over herself.

This cruel question could only be avoided for a while, not a lifeti! An Ying was fully aware of this.

She even went to H City today to get money to prevent him from finding her, knowing that H City and T City are several hundred kiloters apart.

The moon hung high in the sky, casting its bright light on the earth, seemingly giving endless vitality to people; those dark corners appeared utterly defenseless under the pure moonlight.

Half-conscious, An Ying fell asleep on the sofa.

The next day, the debt collectors indeed ca.

By the morning, she had settled these debts. As for the store she rented for opening the bookstore, it had nothing to do with her from now on.

Even the staff who had worked at her bookstore had their wages settled, with An Ying compensating them an extra month’s pay.

After everything was handled, she stood dazed in front of where the bookstore used to be.

Only when a passerby accidentally bumped her shoulder did An Ying co back to her senses, dejectedly following the crowd forward.

She just wanted to take her mind off things.

She stood among the crowd, crossing the street with others, walking aimlessly. For these years, she rarely had the chance to be so idle, so aimless, but An Ying didn’t feel relieved; instead, her heart was filled with sadness.

The street was bustling, and the winter sunlight shone on her fair face. In no ti, her delicate cheeks were flushed red, making her look enchanting.

The shop owners by the street found it quite odd during this period; a luxury car frequently parked in front of their shops. A wealthy woman in the car occasionally rolled down the window. She wore sunglasses, her face heavily made-up, rely sitting in the car without any motion, making everyone feel particularly puzzled. The woman sat in the car for hours on end.

This behavior indeed left people baffled.

Do wealthy people have a hobby of sitting by the roadside observing pedestrians? How leisurely their lives must be!

That day, the luxury car was still parked in place.

Mrs. Su didn’t feel that her conspicuous car had already drawn others’ attention. Sitting comfortably in the car with just the right temperature from the heater, she casually removed her sunglasses and glanced at the driver in the front seat, "Old Hu, has she repaid the money?"

"Madam, not yet," Old Hu responded respectfully.

However, before he could finish speaking, his phone rang. He glanced at it and said to the back, "Madam, I’ll take this call."

Mrs. Su ignored him, pulling out a lipstick from her bag to touch up her makeup.

After the call, Old Hu turned back looking slightly uncomfortable, "Madam, she repaid the money."

Midway through applying her lipstick, Mrs. Su paused, "Paid it all back?"

"Yes," Old Hu nodded.

"Where did that bitch get the money?" Mrs. Su squinted her eyes, a hint of viciousness appearing on her face.

Old Hu remained silent hearing her words.

In the next mont, Mrs. Su gripped the lipstick tightly, snapping it due to her excessive force. Her palm instantly turned red, and she threw the lipstick out of the window in disgust, paying no heed to the pedestrians outside.

Until a startled cry ca from the sidewalk.

"Ah..."

Only then did Mrs. Su look out the window, her gaze contemptuous, ordering the person in the front seat, "Old Hu, give so cash to compensate them."

There was no trace of remorse in her words. Her gaze fell on the woman by the roadside, who was facing away from her, brushing off the stains on her clothes.

"Madam, how much?" Old Hu asked.

Mrs. Su looked the woman up and down, noting her slim figure. Judging by her silhouette, she seed quite young. Looking at her ordinary attire, Mrs. Su said impatiently, "Give her five hundred yuan to settle it."

Old Hu took out five hundred yuan, got out of the car, and saw the woman with her head down, holding a tissue, wiping the lipstick stain from her down jacket.

Stepping forward, Old Hu’s voice carried so apology, "Sorry for dirtying your clothes, here’s so money as compensation."
