Recalling that title, An Yin got up as if possessed, heading towards Ms. An’s bedroom. After turning on the light, all her attention was focused on the bedside table. She shakily reached out her hand, slowly opening the drawer, and saw an old box inside.

As a child, she more than once wanted to secretly pry open this box to see what was inside that Ms. An treasured so much, often taking it out to repeatedly sneak a peek.

An Yin even imagined that perhaps hidden within were secrets about her own lineage!

But whenever she was extrely eager to open it, a voice inside her always reminded: Don’t open it, don’t open it...

After a bout of internal conflict, she would always put the box back in its place.

This ti was different though, An Yin didn’t back down. The doubts buried within her heart had long taken root, seemingly anticipating an answer!

The key to the box was right next to it. An Yin’s eyes flickered, her long eyelashes fluttering incessantly, faintly revealing her inner tension.

At this mont, she was like a little girl sneaking a forbidden fruit, despite the fear and unease on her face, there was a fervent sparkle in her eyes.

Her fingertip, as white as scallions, touched the cold key, sending a shiver through her body.

An Yin stared at the box inside the drawer, the key already gripped in her hand. She crouched on the ground for a long ti, even her legs began to numb, yet An Yin was oblivious, her dazed gaze resting on the old box.

Just as she finally decided and reached out to touch the box, the sound of a key turning in the lock outside caught An Yin’s attention.

She stood up in a panic, dropping the key from her hand without realizing it. After hastily closing the drawer, she quickly got up, taking the chance to switch off the bedroom light, and dashed towards the living room.

After An Ying entered, she sized her daughter up and down with a puzzled look before closing the door.

"What have you been up to? You’re sweating!" Her daughter was afraid of the cold, and although it wasn’t bone-chillingly cold being winter now, there was still a slight chill. An Ying carefully examined her daughter, noticing a red swollen spot on her forehead. Not only that, large beads of sweat were dripping down.

Moreover, the little girl’s guilty look was hard to ignore.

"No, nothing." An Yin shook her head, vehently denying it.

An Ying didn’t expose her daughter’s clumsy lie. Looking at the girl’s forehead, she asked, "How did you get that injury?"

"I accidentally bumped into the door," An Yin admitted honestly.

An Ying sighed, her voice carrying a trace of helplessness, "So grown up yet still so reckless."

An Yin didn’t respond, guiltily listening to Ms. An’s reprimands.

Following that, An Ying lectured her for a long ti, leaving An Yin feeling overwheld.

Taking advantage of Ms. An’s pause to catch her breath, she gossiped eagerly, "Mom, you’ve been getting along well with Doctor Huang lately, haven’t you?"

An Yin knew Ms. An’s disposition; she would rather be alone than deal with soone she disliked. This showed that Ms. An did not repel Doctor Huang. Perhaps during the ti she was away, their relationship had already begun to warm up... Thinking of this, An Yin gazed at her mother with probing eyes.

An Ying t her daughter’s eager gaze, hesitated for a mont, and said, "Just taking walks."

The loneliness in her eyes was deeply hidden, but the usually oblivious An Yin did not notice anything unusual.

An Yin seed to sll the scent of romance, yet she wasn’t about to let Ms. An go, "Really just walks?"

"Really."

An Ying remained composed.

An Yin pouted, mumbling, "Forget it, I won’t ask." An Yin thought, Ms. An might be shy after all. It must have been hard for her to try interacting with other n. I should give her ample space and stop pressing, perhaps next ti when I co ho, Ms. An will give a nice surprise?

Hearing her daughter’s words, An Ying also let out a sigh of relief, then changed the subject, "Have you had dinner yet?"

"Not yet." The ntion by Ms. An made An Yin’s stomach imdiately gurgle.

An Ying reached out, gently patting her daughter’s arm, "Go rest for a while, I’ll make you so food. What would you like to eat?"

As An Ying spoke, she headed towards the bedroom.

Seeing Ms. An walking very smoothly, An Yin knew that her foot injury had recovered completely. Then, An Yin lazily reclined back on the sofa, softly saying, "Whatever mom cooks, I like!"

With one foot stepping into the bedroom, An Ying heard her daughter’s words, her smile deepened, responding with indulgence, "You are such a..." The fondness in her tone was quite evident.

After An Ying finished speaking, she turned on the bedroom light. Her smile froze as she looked at the key fallen in front of the bedside table. Rushing over to open the drawer and seeing the box unhard inside, she felt short of breath. Even while picking up the key from the ground, her hand trembled a bit.

Placing the key back, An Ying closed the drawer, her whole being drained of energy, collapsing limply to the floor. The cold floor quickly sobered her up.

Previously, her daughter’s deanor was as usual, with no signs of anything amiss, indicating that she hadn’t opened the box or seen its contents.

One reason An Ying was so certain that her daughter hadn’t opened the box was because of An Yin’s straightforward nature, incapable of hiding her emotions. Her happiness, anger, sorrow, and joy were all displayed on her face.

"Mom, what are you doing in there?" An Yin, noticing Ms. An hadn’t co out of the bedroom, called towards the bedroom.

"Getting a coat, it was a bit chilly outside just now." An Ying made up an excuse on the spot.

"Oh!" An Yin, with her simple mind, responded briefly, then opened WeChat and started chatting with Shen Jingrou over the ssages sent by her.

An Ying got up and, to maintain the deception, she actually changed into a thicker coat.

Walking out of the bedroom, An Ying saw her daughter with a phone in hand, deeply engaged in sending voice ssages with the other party. She didn’t disturb her, heading straight to the kitchen.

Thinking of the key that had fallen to the floor earlier, An Ying felt restless while cooking. There was only one reason her daughter wanted to see what was inside the box.

An Yin wanted to know about her own lineage!

Or to say, she was getting more curious about her father!

The older her daughter got, she was no longer a little child who could be easily coaxed by An Ying into dismissing the idea of finding her father. Now, with age, An Yin’s certain desires were growing stronger.

Soti in the future, she might even ask about her lineage directly! An Ying pondered.

Thinking that such a day might co, An Ying stood there like a lifeless figure, the water from the tap continuing to splash down as she tightly held onto the vegetables in her hand, not washing them, as if enchanted...
