The sensor lights in the stairwell are very dim. If you have poor eyesight, you can only grope your way in the dark while walking in the stairwell!

For those who frequently use the stairwell, this situation is beyond their control to change. After all, this old building is in an old neighborhood without any property managent. Even the sensor lights installed at each floor’s entrance are connected to individual households’ wiring. So elderly residents have chosen not to install sensor lights at their doors to save a bit on electricity bills.

When An Yin reached the third floor, she encountered this problem: the stairwell was pitch black. Luckily, she turned on her phone’s flashlight.

After descending, she walked along the uneven road towards Mrs. An’s bookstore.

There was a section of the road without streetlights. An Yin held up her phone, lighting up the road, and watched the ground carefully, not noticing an elderly person walking towards her.

The old lady raised her head, caught a glimpse of An Yin, and didn’t pay much attention until they got closer, suddenly realizing, "Yinyin, you’re back!"

"Grandma Wu!" Hearing the familiar voice, An Yin raised her head and sweetly called out, stopping in her tracks.

Grandma Wu looked An Yin up and down, and seeing An Yin’s hurried steps earlier, her wrinkled face sighed repeatedly before saying, "Don’t be too anxious. Take a rest these couple of days and comfort your mother. Such an incident must be terrifying for her!" The old lady shook her head, not noticing how An Yin’s face had turned pale upon hearing her words.

Imdiately afterward, Grandma Wu lowered her gaze, muttering, "Luckily, it was just a false alarm; your mother wasn’t physically hard. After this event, I feel your family could use a man’s presence. I told your mother before to go on a blind date, Yinyin, you should persuade her too..." Grandma Wu spoke a long string of words, but upon seeing An Yin’s face, she realized sothing was off.

In the faint moonlight, the young girl stood there stunned, her eyes wide open as if frightened by sothing.

"Yinyin, you..."

Grandma Wu’s words were cut off by An Yin.

"Grandma Wu, what’s wrong with my mom?" An Yin reached out, grasping Grandma Wu’s arm tightly, looking panicked.

"You don’t know yet?" Realizing she just misspoke, Grandma Wu’s complexion didn’t look much better, taking a step back.

An Yin looked utterly confused, shaking her head.

Seeing this, Grandma Wu looked troubled, as it was really inappropriate to ddle in other people’s family affairs. She reached out, removing An Yin’s hand, "Since you’re back, you should ask your mother properly!" Grandma Wu finished speaking and hurried toward the dim old building.

An Yin’s eyes flickered, coming to her senses instantly. She turned off her phone’s flashlight function and directly dialed Mrs. An’s number.

"Beep...beep...beep..."

The phone rang only three tis before it was answered.

"Yinyin, why are you calling?" An Ying’s voice was a bit light, as if deliberately lowered.

"Where are you?" An Yin asked directly, her voice carrying a hint of tremble.

The other end paused for a mont, seemingly picking up on An Yin’s unusual tone of voice. Then, An Ying cautiously replied, "Yinyin, what’s wrong, did sothing happen?"

An Yin is her daughter; any slight change in her mood couldn’t go unnoticed by An Ying, who also beca uneasy and worried.

"I’m ho. Where are you?" An Yin didn’t want to beat around the bush with Mrs. An, saying bluntly that at this mont she just wanted to know what had happened and why Grandma Wu said those inexplicable things.

After a few seconds of silence on the other end, she finally spoke, "Wait for at ho, I’ll be back soon."

"Tell where you are right now; I’ll co over." An Yin said stubbornly, with an undeniable tone.

Her voice was gentle yet carried a trace of firm strength.

After so hesitation, An Ying disclosed the location.

Hearing the address given by Mrs. An, An Yin hung up the phone and almost jogged to the nearest clinic.

The little girl was slender and thin, making running particularly strenuous. Soon, her pale cheeks turned bright red.

Upon reaching the nearby small clinic, An Yin noticed two middle-aged n standing at the door smoking. As she approached the clinic entrance, their gaze turned towards her, making An Yin lower her head in fright. Due to her nervousness, she habitually tugged at the hem of her clothes.

She exerted a little strength, sliding the door open, and was imdiately hit by the pungent sll of disinfectant. An Yin sniffled, her bright eyes scanning the interior.

A row of black chairs was placed on the left side, with many parents there with children getting drips, while a nurse in a white uniform on the left was holding a thermoter, comforting a child.

An Yin walked through the crowd towards the inner room.

An Yin had been sick often and ca to this clinic for treatnt many tis, and the nurses and doctors here knew her.

As An Yin walked past the nurse, she happened to be seen. "You’re here to see your mother, right? She’s inside getting dicine; wait a mont." The nurse smiled.

An Yin smiled warmly, "I want to go in and see her."

The nurse did not stop her.

An Yin approached the room at the very back, a fabric curtain shielding it. As she was about to lift it, she heard a familiar voice, stopping her movent and standing there listening to the conversation inside.

"Your foot is injured like this, why co here every day? I said, wait at ho, and I’ll bring the dical kit over!" Doctor Huang’s voice carried a tone of concern mixed with frustration.

"There’s no need to go through so much trouble, besides, it’s not far from my ho to here!" An Ying sat in the chair, turning her head aside, avoiding the man’s intent gaze.

"You’re afraid of gossip, aren’t you!" Doctor Huang sighed, wrapping the white gauze slowly around An Ying’s ankle.

Although An Ying had reached middle age, her figure was still full, and she exuded the gentleness of a Jiangnan woman, giving off a coquettish charm without losing elegance.

Doctor Huang had lost his wife early, raising his daughter alone with great effort. Over the years, many people had set him up on blind dates, all of which he had rejected. In truth, in his heart, he had unwittingly developed feelings for An Ying long ago, although this fanciful thought was well hidden!

This ti, upon hearing that An Ying was nearly hard by a villain, Doctor Huang was alard and began to worry for her!

An Ying, a vulnerable woman, with her only daughter mostly living at school, leaving her ho alone. Moreover, she was stunningly beautiful and ethereal. Just thinking about it caused Doctor Huang sleepless nights, particularly after the danger An Ying faced the other day, making him like a cat on hot bricks, pacing beneath her apartnt building late at night. Of course, An Ying knew nothing of this...
