Chapter 588: Chapter 436: Hoarding Thousands upon Thousands for Natural Disasters, Raising a Child, I Let It Go 24

“So it’s Grandpa Wen and Grandma Wen, hello,” Su Zhiruan greeted them politely and then reached into her pocket for her phone, “He should be upstairs right now, I’ll take you to him.”

“Oh, thank you, we really appreciate it,” Grandma Wen said warmly, her face lighting up with a smile as she looked at Su Zhiruan.

Grandpa Wen stood tall and straight, his deanor distinguished. Despite his advancing years, his eyes did not betray any cloudiness but shone with clarity and resolve.

Su Zhiruan led the way, thinking of Wen Qingyu’s current amnesiac state, she had already given the elderly couple a heads up.

On the way, she also asked the system to learn more about Wen Qingyu.

The system’s information was split into two parts, and before eting the mission target, the information provided was sparse; in so cases, in Small Worlds, the mission targets didn’t even have a na given.

Now, as their familiarity with each other had grown, the information about Wen Qingyu was supplented in the system.

The elderly couple following behind her indeed turned out to be Wen Qingyu’s grandparents. They were no ordinary people; both held positions of power as public officials in their youth and even participated in certain confidential research projects. What’s more, the seemingly kind and gentle Grandma Wen had another identity; she was a principal researcher at the national laboratory.

“We are so grateful to you, Miss Su. If it weren’t for you, that boy might not have survived,” Grandpa Wen choked up with emotion. Even soone accustod to significant events like him could not help but be startled upon hearing Su Zhiruan recount the episode.

“You don’t need to be so formal, just call Xiaosu,” Su Zhiruan said with a modest smile as the couple kept addressing her as Miss Su.

“Alright, Xiaosu.” Grandpa and Grandma Wen’s fondness for her increased even further.

It’s hardest for the elderly to cope with the notion of outliving their children, especially since Wen Qingyu was their only grandchild. They couldn’t accept his disappearance. Then ca the apocalypse, which all but extinguished that hope, as surviving such a disaster was difficult enough.

Unexpectedly, not only had their grandson not perished, but he was also building a stronghold with his girlfriend. The girl in front of them was kind-hearted and capable. Wen Qingyu was very fortunate to be with her.

Wen Qingyu had been busy with the infrastructure construction of the stronghold while also handling personnel matters.

In a nutshell, they were pretty much ‘he runs the inside while she handles the outside.’

Standing in front of the door, Su Zhiruan knocked.

“Who is it?” ca Wen Qingyu’s steady voice from inside. He was all business when working, serious and ticulous.

“It’s ,” Su Zhiruan said.

The next second— the door opened—

As soon as she looked up, Su Zhiruan saw Wen Qingyu lean forward to embrace her, “Zhiruan—”

His head rested against her shoulder, and then he suddenly saw the two elderly people behind her. The “I missed you” that was about to leap from his lips got stuck in his throat.

The elders’ expressions were clearly very shocked.

They had never dread that their cold and indifferent grandson would act coquettishly in matters of affection!!

This behavior, if you had told them about it two years ago, even if they racked their brains, they could never have imagined Wen Qingyu doing such a thing.

“Who are you?” Wen Qingyu stood up straight, holding Su Zhiruan’s hand as he looked at the two elderly people.

Subconsciously, he felt that the two elders looked familiar, as if he had seen them sowhere before, but he was currently suffering from amnesia. He recognized them, but truly couldn’t recall who they were.

“Qingyu, I’m your grandmother, and he’s your grandfather,” said the kind Grandma Wen, her heart aching at the unfamiliarity in her grandson’s eyes. However, her ntal strength wasn’t bad, and the joy of seeing her grandson alive again overpowered the sorrow of his mory loss.

“Sorry, please co in and take a seat. I’ll pour so water for you,” Wen Qingyu stepped aside to let them in, and skillfully prepared the glasses for water. Noticing Su Zhiruan following him, he grabbed a small cake from the cupboard and handed it to her, signaling her to sit down and not leave. Then, he turned his attention back to the elders, “I have lost my mory and can’t temporarily rember people and events from before. If there’s any neglect, I truly apologize.”

Seeing his distant manner, the elders inevitably showed hurt expressions.

“It’s okay, you’ll rember everything slowly,” Grandpa Wen coughed twice and nodded understandingly, “Just focus on doing what you should be doing now.”

“Right, we have plenty of ti,” Grandma Wen said, her heart still aching, but compared to the previous situation of complete disconnection, not alive but not dead either, it was quite good to see her grandson right in front of her. Moreover, the things he was doing now were aningful, so after they thought it through, they felt relieved.

“Why don’t you two elders consider staying here?” Su Zhiruan saw that the atmosphere was sowhat awkward and smiled while finding a topic, “This is the first ti for us youngsters to undertake such a big task, and we inevitably feel lost. If you two were to join us, I believe the base would beco even better.”

“Such high praise, we’re not worthy,” Grandma Wen regained her smile, looking at Su Zhiruan with eyes full of affection.

“Grandma is being modest,” Su Zhiruan’s eyes had already glanced over the suitcase at Grandpa Wen’s feet. Coupled with the system’s reveal of the elders’ identities, she had already had a guess, but now it was even more certain. She half-jokingly and half-probingly said, “At first, when we t, I thought you two were reinforcents sent by the ‘higher-ups’ to aid us, but later when I learned that the two of you were here for your grandson, I had a bold idea to ask you to stay. I was just considering whether to use delicious food to win you over or to play the card of family affection.”

Grandpa Wen chuckled. He picked up the suitcase by his feet and placed it on the coffee table in front of him, but he didn’t open it yet. He looked at Wen Qingyu and then at Su Zhiruan, “We are both old now, there’s not much use keeping us, hands too weak to lift and shoulders too frail to carry. As the saying goes, ‘the new waves of the Yangtze River drive on those before them.’ The tis ultimately belong to the young. The achievents you’ve made, we old folks feel ashad by comparison, we would just be making fools of ourselves if we stayed.”

“You’re joking. The elders have seen so much and have wisdom and vision that are examples for us to learn from. If there is any instruction or guidance, we should be all ears,” said Su Zhiruan, as she put down her glass and, like playing tai chi, pushed the topic back, “The past serves as a guide for the future. We youngsters should listen more to advice and experience to do even better.”

Su Zhiruan naturally believed they had co to find their grandson, Wen Qingyu. This was certainly true.

But she also believed, besides finding their grandson, they had a purpose for coming to the base.

Having stalled for so long over drinks and pleasantries, Su Zhiruan couldn’t believe they did not understand the probing words she had said.

From another perspective, if these two elders ca purely to see their grandson, with such deep love, they naturally would not have refused Su Zhiruan’s offer to stay for a long ti.

In the end, Grandpa Wen showed a kindly smile and pressed the code on his suitcase.

“The young lady is very clever.”

Accompanied by a “click,” the suitcase opened—
