"Why did you go all silent? Co on, tell . Who the hell are you...and how do you know from my childhood!?"
Aiden’s cold rumble echoed inside the hallway walls, jolting Mr. Barnes to reality as he was montarily lost in the mories of their past together almost 14 years ago. Narrowing his dark brown eyes, he stared silently at Aiden’s face for a while, seeming anxious by reaching a few steps closer to him as he demanded his answer.
However, Barnes exhaled a heavy sigh while contemplating in his mind, ’Master Aiden seems to have really changed a lot compared to the last ti I saw him. If I remind him about our long-forgotten past now, I am afraid, what if he imdiately tries chasing out?
’It took 14 long years to finally face him once again like this, but now watching him try to erase everyone’s existence who was involved with him in his childhood, I...don’t want that to happen to as well... I don’t want Master Aiden to hate ...now that I have found him after so long...’
"If you have no intention of answering my question, then just back off from my way!"
Aiden’s sudden desperate grunt winced Barnes a little hard, as he saw Aiden trying to march past him towards Kylian’s room, tapping his boots louder on the cold floor. He seed very agitated but at that point, Barnes knew if he let him leave like this...it was really the end.
"W-Wait!" Grabbing his arm from behind, Barnes took a deep breath in as he ca up with a quick excuse.
"Actually...the past we shared wasn’t very worthy to be morable, and I only knew you for a few months when you were small, Master Aiden. Yes, you have grown up to be such a magnificent man, and that’s why I was a bit taken aback when I saw you here again. I think the reason why you have also completely forgotten about , was that we just used to exchange a few cordial greetings when I used to work for your father, for a short ti."
"Is that true?" Holding a clear suspicion in his voice, Aiden narrowed his hazel eyes at him while his pitch deepened, "Just a mont ago you told that I had promised you that I would rember you when I was small. Why would I promise sothing like that to soone who just worked temporarily for my Dad?"
Barnes gulped lowkey expecting that Aiden would catch a hint from his words. But faking a calm smile over his round face to hide the harrowing anxiety inside him, Barnes continued to give his blatant excuses.
"Oh, Master Aiden...you were just an elentary schooler at that ti. It is very natural as a child to open our hearts up to anyone, even to a small worker like who only saw you a few tis in your mansion. You used to greet cordially every ti we t, and that’s how you had made that promise to .
"It’s my fault though to still harbor that thought until now that you would actually rember , so...I apologize if my words have confused you."
~ "I wonder, why am I getting this feeling that this guy is lying to you? Besides, the past encounters that you have shared with him must have occurred way too long ago before I awakened inside you, so...I can’t exactly say what has happened. But the way you are all tensed up from eting him, Aiden...why don’t you try to dig your mory deeper and rember about this guy?"
His beta wolf Dazen growled in a perplexed voice inside him, giving Aiden a clear picture of how that unknown mysterious young man was making him puzzled.
Staring intently at Barnes, he realized he must be in his late 20s now, so it was quite possible that they might have t a few tis in the past when he was too small to even recall that, though this man must have been an early teen.
Or...what if he was associated with the mories Aiden has always deliberately tried to forget until now?
~ "Hah, I knew this would happen! I knew he wouldn’t rember anything about you, but you sacrificed everything...even your rising career as a soldier in Belfast, and ca back to Westport, hoping to find this man again who would keep that silly promise he made to you! Serves you fuckin’ right!"
Barnes’s beta wolf Jules rumbled inside him furiously, his voice was mixed with pain and rage.
Sensing the gushing wave of anxious palpitations going inside Barnes’s heart at that mont, Jules continued expressing his vent, "I awakened inside you when you were only 13, so Barnes I clearly rember all the agony and guilt you have endured for these years while searching for this little brat. But now that you know he never gave a crap about your existence...why would you still want to keep holding onto him?"
’Because...I still can’t help but feel guilty about what I could’ve done if I had chosen to stay with Master Aiden instead.’ Masking a fake soft smile on his face, Barnes answered his wolf through mind link while a sharp, throbbing heartache stirred him from inside.
"After all these years, not even for a day I could ever forget those crying eyes holding onto my hand, begging to stay with him. If only I was a little braver who could protect him...if only I had a little more power, I believe Master Aiden would’ve grown up like this... I felt responsible for everything I couldn’t do back then, but now that I have finally obtained my chance once again...it’s ti I keep the end of my bargain and stay near him..."
Hearing his answer, his wolf only let out a big sigh, with a scowl, "Do whatever you want, but I don’t think that would make any difference after all... What will you do if he retrieves his mories about you?
’Would you be able to stop him from hating you then?"
