[Present Ti]
Finn waited for Nina in the greenhouse, seated in one of the intricate garden chairs. Looking at the empty spots, a short smile turned up on his face. Perhaps it was because he had almost died that he now had a new appreciation for everything in life.
"I didn’t go to the sa school before," he whispered, thinking about how his life had changed the mont he chose to attend this school instead of going elsewhere. Now, he had so mories to recall and smile about.
Even without Penny in the Star Section, it was fun and peaceful. Sitting here reminded him of those peaceful days when they would just idle in the greenhouse, a privilege the Star Section students had earned. But regardless of those mories, he liked the present better because of his relationship with Nina.
Not long after, Finn heard the chi ring and turned his head. He imdiately smiled, placing his hands on the armrest to push himself up. However, just as he rose to his feet and caught sight of Nina, he furrowed his brows upon seeing the look on her face.
"Finn!" she called, rushing to him.
"Is everything okay?" he asked worriedly, assessing her face.
Nina pressed her lips together, her worry evident. "Grandpa... had a heart attack. I want to go there."
"I’ll go with you."
"No." She shook her head. "I’ll drop you off and get you settled. I’ll co back with you."
"..." Finn didn’t answer, a gut feeling telling him that this news wasn’t sothing natural. A huge part of him hoped it was simply a result of Chairman Bennet’s old age. However, another part of him knew deep down that this might be sothing different.
"You told to be honest with you," he whispered, reaching out to hold her hand. "Stay with for now."
"Finn, even if Grandpa isn’t my biological grandpa, he’s still soone important in my life. I can’t just leave Penny and my brothers when they need ," she argued, only to see his face crumple a bit. A shallow breath slipped past her lips as she squeezed his hand lightly. "I’ll be back with you. Don’t worry. I’ll just check on my family. Please don’t ask to choose."
"I’m not asking you to choose between your family and . I’m just... being honest."
Nina sighed helplessly. "I know."
---
In the end, Nina still decided to go and be with the Bennet family. She knew she should stay with Finn and make sure he was fine. However, the Bennet family was also her family. Even if she had chosen to use the Reed family na, she was still a Bennet at heart.
With that, Finn and Nina headed to the parking lot, where they saw Yugi waiting for them.
Yugi sat in the driver’s seat while the couple sat in the back. Glancing at the rearview mirror, he noticed the worry in Nina’s eyes.
"Yugi, can you stay with Finn for a while?" she asked after a prolonged silence, watching Yugi glance in the mirror again. "I need to go to Penny."
Yugi didn’t respond imdiately, earning a look from Finn. "Stay with him."
"Yugi, my dad’s father had a heart attack!" she intoned. "Even if I can’t do anything, it’s only right for to be there."
"They won’t need you there."
"Yugi!"
Yugi maintained a cool reaction, eyes on the road. "Nina, right now, focus on your boyfriend’s health. Help him recover. Do things one at a ti. You’ve been juggling between work and nursing him back to health. I don’t want you to end up in the hospital too."
"Yugi, I’m just going to check on everyone. They’re family."
"And this family would want you to be in good shape as well. Don’t worry them — don’t worry , and don’t worry your sick boyfriend."
Nina frowned, upset by Yugi’s adamant refusal. It wasn’t like she was asking him to drive her to her destination.
"I’ll check the situation for you," Yugi offered in the sa tone, making her raise her brows. "Nina, like you said, the Bennets are family. But so are you. The least we can do as a family is not add to their worries. I’m sorry if I sound strict."
Hearing this, Nina cald down a little. She pressed her lips together, eyeing Yugi, then casting a look at Finn.
"I think he’s right," Finn nodded at her. "You should rest as well. I’m sure the Bennets know that you’re on their side."
Another shallow breath slipped past Nina’s lips, and she reluctantly nodded. Initially, she felt a little displeased that Yugi was making it sound like her presence in the Bennet family’s affairs wasn’t necessary. She knew she had too little influence in the family, considering that Atlas was the head of the family, Penny had a big company with Pri Group, Hugo was a powerful military figure, and Slater was a powerhouse in the entertainnt industry.
However, hearing Yugi’s humble apology made her realize he had a point. In this situation, the least she could do was not add to the Bennets’ worries.
"Visit them tomorrow," Finn advised, watching her look up at him. "When everyone’s had enough rest and when the emotions aren’t so high anymore. Perhaps, send them a ssage now. They might not see it imdiately, but I’m sure a word of encouragent would do."
"I will." She nodded and sighed again. "No wonder they left the reunion so suddenly."
As Nina mumbled and tried to make sense of everything, Finn slowly lifted his eyes to the rearview mirror. Yugi was staring ahead and glanced at the mirror when he sensed soone looking at it.
No words were spoken between the two n, but seeing the look in Yugi’s eyes, Finn knew sothing was up. It also confird Finn’s suspicion that whatever was happening in the Bennet family was not as simple as a heart attack.
Finn snapped his eyes back to Nina, sighing heavily. ’I think... it’s started.’
