The next day...

[Pierson Corporation]

Dean walked to his office in silence. Today was the board eting, and until then, he had to do so extra work for it. On his way, his assistant welcod him and fell a step behind.

"Sir," called the assistant, making Dean slow down in his steps. "Mr. Davis might not be able to make it today, he said."

Dean’s brow arched as he set his eyes ahead. "And why is that?"

"He didn’t say anything else aside from that he had a prior commitnt he couldn’t cancel."

"A prior commitnt?" Dean let out a shallow laugh, sneering. "Did he think I would buy that?"

The assistant didn’t respond and simply followed him to his office quietly. It was true that no one would believe Finn’s la excuse. After all, the board eting of the Pierson Corporation was one of the most important etings the company held three tis a year—except in ergencies.

Everyone always attended it.

Finn might not be a direct mber of the board, but he was one of the new partners of the company. Therefore, it was natural for him to attend and have a formal introduction. Finn had known about these months in advance and wouldn’t have scheduled another commitnt on the sa day as the board eting.

Soon, Dean arrived in his office and turned to face his assistant. He spoke only once the door was closed.

"Find out where he is and what happened to him. It’s much better if you check all the hospitals in Anteca or see if he boarded a flight," he ordered without a pause. "William Pierson wants out, so he might have started breaking my limbs."

The assistant lowered her head and answered sternly, "Yes, sir."

"Don’t let anyone know about it," he added before turning his back on her. But just as he reached his desk, he slowed down and furrowed his brows. "How about Zoren Pierson? Any news about him?"

In other words, he wanted to know if Zoren had gotten into another accident.

"Nothing, sir," said the assistant. "No accidents or mishaps have been reported."

Dean slowly arched a brow and glanced at her. "Are you sure?"

"Yes."

"Is that so?" Dean shook his head. "Then go ahead and check if Finn is still alive or barely alive."

Having said that, his assistant lowered her head and walked out of the office without making the slightest noise. Dean, on the other hand, sat behind his desk with a mixed expression.

"Normally, Zoren Pierson would already have had an accident or a mishap," he murmured, only to be reminded that the one handling his security affairs was the Pri Group. "Penny."

Dean huffed and shrugged. "Then, I’m glad if that’s the case." A glint flickered across his eyes as he rembered Finn and Dean’s current conflict with his uncle, William Pierson.

"He better be safe," he muttered. "It would be a sha to replace him. I don’t think I can find soone as cunning as him."

[Pri Group]

Penny reached for her cup of tea, sniffing its aroma as she lifted the cup to her lips. She had her legs casually crossed, seated on the one-seater couch. As she took a sip and let the tea linger on her taste buds, she slowly snapped her eyes up at the person seated on the long couch.

Finn Davis.

"What did you say?" she asked after a mont, almost laughing in ridicule. "You want to hire ?"

Finn smiled and nodded. "That’s right."

"Mr. Davis, it seems you have a misunderstanding about our company operations," she replied with a slight laugh. "Did you co here thinking that the last ti we t ant we’d beco friends?"

"I was hopeful that’s the case," he quipped, undeterred by her sarcasm. "However, like I said, I need you, Penelope Bennet. I must admit I’ve been reflecting on my life this ti, wondering why I didn’t think of starting my own security firm."

"But even if you did, you still wouldn’t be Pri Group."

"And that’s what I told myself," he laughed. "Even if I thought of starting a security firm, it wouldn’t be the sa as the Pri Group. It might be bigger, but I don’t think it would be as solid as your company."

Penny shrugged, not refuting his claim, as she also knew there might be so truth in it. Penny’s clientele included all influential people, but finding clients wasn’t the biggest problem she faced when she started.

The biggest struggle was her own people.

To make a security firm successful, she needed many people who could do the job well. Even with the help of Wild and Haines, it was a struggle. It was what made Pri Group what it was today.

"Well... I didn’t think your storytelling last ti would co so soon," she remarked. "Since you’re already here as a prospective client of mine, you wouldn’t mind if I ask you a few questions, right?"

"Why would I mind?" he laughed. "But does that an you’d approve ?"

"No. I’m just a busybody who wants to know your business." She shrugged nonchalantly, not that she was reconsidering giving him her services; rather, she wasn’t planning it right now. "What type of services do you need?"

Finn almost laughed at that very obvious question, but he still answered. "Protection."

"You want to send you bodyguards?"

"No." Finn shook his head, leaning over and resting one arm on his leg. "I want you to send them to soone else."

"Oh?" Her right brow arched. "To who?"

"Nina Reed."

Deep lines appeared between her brows, deepening when Finn started unbuttoning his shirt.

"Just in case you don’t know, I’m not interested in you, even if you stand naked in front of ," she warned. "Though I don’t mind; my husband is a jealous type."

Finn chuckled before he continued to unbutton his shirt. When his chest was revealed, he pulled his collar to the side to show her the bandage around it. This ti, Penny furrowed her brows and squinted.

"What happened there?" she asked, lifting her eyes to him as she caught sight of fresh blood on the bandage.

"I was shot a few nights ago," he explained. "Thankfully, it was a graze... or rather, the bullet was ant to graze ."

Penny pressed her lips into a thin line for a mont, her eyes locked with his. "Yet you want to send n to protect Nina? Why her and not you?"

"Do you rember Cassandra from the Star Section? She’s fifth in class. She’s my ex-fiancée." He tilted his head as he pulled on his shirt, buttoning himself up with one hand.

"What about her? Did she go crazy and shoot you?"

Finn smiled at her before pausing. "She’s dating Jonathan Pierson."
