Penny couldn’t help but chuckle as she read the email she sent herself last night. Although she had an idea of this email even before she checked it, a lot had happened last night, and she almost forgot what was said here.
"I guess... we’re both happy now," she whispered to herself, smiling. "I’m glad."
Penny heaved a sigh of relief as she leaned back. She was all alone in the room because her parents and Haines had to go ho. Slater drove them, promising they would be back before she knew it. As for Hugo, he dropped by that morning but still had to visit the station for updates. He was very hands-on with the matter.
Atlas stayed for a while and then stepped out to make a phone call. The sa was true for Zoren. Although she was certain her husband and first brother weren’t out just to make a phone call, Penny was left alone to rest.
"I’m not better," she whispered to herself, lifting her eyes to the ceiling. "I know that she’s always going to be there."
But she also knew that it wouldn’t be the sa anymore. Now, Penny didn’t have to drink just to appease her other self.
"Though last night..." Penny touched her cheek, hissing. "I’m... surprisingly still used to it."
What she ant was that even with a rebirth, her body seed to be used to being hit. Penny had never had a fight like last night in this lifeti. She had sparring matches with Angel and sotis with Hugo, but all of those were conducted under certain rules and conditions.
Last night was just a brawl.
"Well." She smiled and shrugged. "I guess I can now go back to my normal life."
Penny nodded in satisfaction before her smile faded a little. Staring at the ceiling, she thought about the things she rembered during the hypnosis session she had yesterday.
"That guy..." she trailed off as the door suddenly slid open. Curious about who had co back, Penny slowly peeled her back from the headboard the mont she saw Grace walking in.
"It’s okay, Penny. Keep resting. I’m just checking on you and bringing in so updates," Grace casually remarked as she approached the bed, stopping at the side to study Penny’s face. After a few seconds, she heaved a sigh of relief and smiled.
"Goodness. I was so scared last night, but it seems you’re okay," she mused, closing her eyes as she took another deep sigh of relief. "I was here last night, but your family was already here, so I didn’t want to interrupt."
"How’s Ginnie, Nina, and Lily?"
"They stayed here overnight but were discharged early this morning. Don’t worry; they’re fine. I heard they wanted to drop by here, but your first brother said you needed more rest."
"Oh."
"Anyway, is your brain fine to process information?" asked Grace as she casually sat on the side of the bed. Penny nodded in response, which made Grace smile. "Good, because I’m not letting that bastard get away."
As soon as those words flew out of Grace’s mouth, she held her briefcase and took out a few thin folders.
"I’ve already filed a case against Lily’s ex and also the guys he hired. However, I need so information about those guys to put them behind bars," she started sternly without a second hesitation. "Lily and the rest are also pressing charges against him, so his case will be easy."
Penny tilted her head as she glanced at the files Grace handed her. She didn’t take the ti to read everything, just skimming through the pages.
"I’ll give you everything you need within the day," she said after a minute of silence, looking back at Grace. "Don’t let them get away with it."
"After what he did? He’d rot in jail. I’ll make sure of that."
Penny smiled. "Well done."
"Don’t ntion it. Say that to once there’s a verdict."
"Then, I’m saying this in advance," Penny quipped, making Grace smirk in satisfaction. "What about the nightclub? They were equally reliable."
"That place closed down this morning."
"It did?"
"Mhm. The owner was arrested for a different reason, though. Allegations were made with solid evidence to justify the arrest. He’s facing a lot of charges, including tax evasion."
"Oh..."
Grace arched a brow. "It’s Zoren Pierson’s doing."
Penny didn’t answer as she stared into Grace’s observant eyes. After a while, she smiled and nodded.
"I knew he’d do sothing like this. But I also know these aren’t just false allegations," she replied calmly. "Am I wrong?"
"No, you’re right." Grace scrunched up her nose but was pleased that Penny seed to know the man she married. "Well, anyway, he deserves it too. From what I heard, the owner and Lily’s ex are friends. It’s why no one on the staff stepped in; they received a mo."
Grace folded her arms underneath her chest. "It’s why the staff will be held as witnesses to this."
"I see." Penny nodded in satisfaction. "I guess everything’s already settled, and I don’t have anything else to do."
"Well, yes. I’m simply updating you."
Penny furrowed her brows. "Then why do you look like that?"
"Huh?"
"What else are you thinking about?"
"Well..." Grace humd as she tilted her head to the side. "Sothing felt strange last night."
"What was strange?"
Grace snapped her eyes to Penny as she said, "I thought I saw Finn Davis, Nina’s fiancé, last night. But upon checking the CCTV footage as part of the evidence gathering, I didn’t see him."
