[PRESENT TI]

"So, that’s what you promised!" Penny exclaid, frowning at him with disappointnt. "How dare you forget our promise of love?"

"..."

Zoren was utterly speechless at the story he’d just heard from her lips — the sa lips that kept wondering how they ended up married. Even though her face was slightly blurry, he could feel the certainty in her story.

"Let clarify," he muttered. "I agreed to those conditions while high on drugs?"

She nodded. "Don’t forget the cut I gave you while doing so," she reminded him as if that was supposed to be his proudest mont. "I saved your life, and look at you now! Better~! Aren’t you lucky?"

’I’m legally blind,’ was what he wanted to tell her, but it seed she had forgotten about that. "And how did the marriage happen?"

"I called a friend who knows a friend and that friend knows soone who also knows soone...."

In a brief mont, Zoren was able to grasp the situation based on his observation of his beloved wife.

’It seems when she’s drunk, she doesn’t rember the mories she had when sober. And when sober, she doesn’t rember anything from her drunken state,’ he concluded, rocking his head. ’That explains why she doesn’t know she’s married.’

Thinking about it, a chuckle escaped him. "Haha."

"Husband, why are you laughing so suddenly?" she asked, blinking innocently. "Did you retain permanent brain damage, and your brain feels slightly ticklish?"

"No," he chuckled, snapping his eyes at her. Zoren slowly raised a hand and tucked a portion of her hair behind her ear. "It’s not like that, wife."

"Then, what is it?"

He didn’t answer imdiately, smiling and sighing in relief. "It’s just that I feel relieved we married off our own volition." — albeit, neither of them was in the right state of mind to make such a big decision.

All this ti, Penny and Zoren had assud their marriage had sothing to do with a bigger problem lurking in their shadows. Who would have thought that this marriage was a decision they both made?

’I think I understand now why I held onto her despite not being fully conscious,’ he thought, as he couldn’t recall the events from five years ago. But after hearing her story, he understood why his body reacted the way it did.

He didn’t want to let her go because, in that state, he had recognized her lovely presence. It was the sa presence he felt the first ti they t again after five years — and the sa presence he’d felt twelve years ago when he first t her.

It truly seed like their fates were intertwined.

"Fine," he said, nodding at her reassuringly. "I’ll give you a honeymoon that will blow your mind."

Her eyes twinkled like a pervert. "Really?"

He nodded.

"Okay!" Penny hurriedly pushed herself away from him and reached for the hem of her shirt to take it off. But before she could do so, Zoren clasped her hands and stopped her. She frowned and lifted her gaze back to him. "What now?"

Zoren smiled lovingly. "Tomorrow."

"Huh?"

"Not tonight."

"What’s the difference between tonight and tomorrow?"

"It’ll be more fun in the daylight," he quipped, peeling her hands from the hem of her shirt and guiding them back to his shoulders. He then circled his arm around her waist, smiling. "It’s a little late now. How about we watch a movie together?"

Her frown deepened. A movie night was the last thing she wanted to do right now. However, seeing that handso look on his face, her heart reluctantly lted.

"Fine," she conceded with a heavy heart. "I’ll give you ti. It seems like you need to work on your stamina, anyway."

Zoren arched a brow, hearing that as a challenge. ’Want to bet on that?’ was what his pride urged him to say, but he bit his tongue. Although he had been doing mild exercises regularly, he hadn’t fully regained the strength he had lost due to his failing health.

Not that he thought it would affect his performance — kissing her often gave him a reserve of strength to go on. But if he succumbed to her provocation, he might actually take her tonight and regret it later.

"Goodness. You’re really such a troublemaker." His voice was low and cool as he brushed her cheek with the back of his fingers. "As much as I’d love to make this night unforgettable, I’d rather share that mory with you."

In other words, he wanted their first night to be one they both rembered every detail of. It wouldn’t be fair if only he could rember, while she forgot it all because she was drunk. After all, to Penny, it still seed like only days had passed since their first eting in the hospital.

’And it’s ironic that we t again in a hospital after five years,’ he thought, amused by the coincidence.

"Shall we watch a movie?" he asked, lifting his brows aningfully and flashing her a wide smile.

Penny pressed her lips together and nodded.

With that settled, the two headed to the theater room in the manor to spend the night on what, for him, was a date. Zoren didn’t think much of it as they started watching any random movie she chose, assuming the night would be calm and uneventful.

He was wrong.

Halfway through the horror film, Penny began chuckling. Zoren raised a brow and glanced at her. He couldn’t fully see the movie because of his vision problems, but he knew the scene was grueso—the screen was drenched in red.

Yet here she was, laughing.

"What’s funny?" he asked, only to hear her explanation.

"Because that girl should’ve died in one slash, but she stayed alive until the fourth. It’s hilarious—they clearly didn’t do their research."

"..." Zoren opened his mouth, then decided to keep whatever he wanted to say to himself. Instead of comnting further, he focused on the big screen and listened to her laughter.

Penny laughed until the end of the film. Since she wasn’t sleepy yet, she put on another movie. Before he knew it, they were on their third film. And with each one, Penny scooted closer until she was snuggling against him.

Glancing at her, a satisfied smile curled on his lips as he casually caressed her back. Everything was peaceful—until he suddenly started hearing her muffled sniffles.
