"Mark! Angel!"
Mark and Angel, still busy trying to survive, saw Penny jogging in their direction. Their faces twisted in dismay. Couldn’t she see they were on a battlefield?
Yet, there she was, skipping through the middle of the war zone.
If not for Shawn, who was expertly covering her with the truck and his precise alertness, she would’ve been dead. But Penny didn’t care about that.
"Damn—!" Angel hissed, quickly backing away, rifles firing as he moved toward Penny. Mark did the sa, shifting his focus to any threat to Penny, while Shawn concentrated on the threat to their lives.
Once they reached her, they ran to the truck and pressed their backs against the side of the vehicle. Keeping Penny between them, Angel’s shouts made her jolt.
"Penny, are you out of your mind!?" Angel scolded, glaring at her. "And are you drunk!?"
"Nope!" Penny’s denial was quicker than a blink. "Shawn knocked out."
’And you sobered up,’ was what Shawn wanted to tell her, but he didn’t have ti. At this point, he just accepted this was his punishnt and he had no right to complain, no matter how tempted he was by Penny’s unserious behavior.
Mark’s sharp eyes quickly shot to Shawn, but he didn’t let that personal dissatisfaction affect him now. He looked around and pulled the trigger, helping their comrades before turning to Penny.
"Miss Penny, are you alright?" he asked, glancing at her before shifting his focus.
"Are you blind?" Angel snapped, his side pressing against Penny’s as he covered her. Even if her recklessness angered him, it didn’t an he’d let her die.
Penny signed his paycheck—well, technically Zoren, but it was the sa thing.
As for Mark, he was just glad Penny reached them in ti. "Miss Penny, the master is inside with Nathalie Zorken. And just now, we heard multiple shots fired."
"..." Penny slowly turned to Mark, staring blankly at his side. After a second, she lifted her eyes and gazed at the mansion in the distance.
"Renren," she whispered, and for so reason, she even forgot why she’d approached them.
The smile on her face disappeared, and she slapped the side of the truck to get not just Shawn’s attention, but Angel’s and Mark’s.
"Let’s go!" she shouted, opening the driver’s seat door. "Renren is there, and you two—forget it."
She climbed into the driver’s seat while Angel and Mark covered her. As for Shawn, he crawled back to the passenger row. Once Penny was behind the wheel, Angel and Mark intuitively climbed onto the tire and clung to the truck’s body, their entire bodies dangling like decorations.
"Get in!" Mark shouted at Angel. "I’ll cover for you!"
Angel glanced at him and nodded, letting his rifle dangle from its strap. Holding onto the rim of the truck body with both hands, the truck began to rev up.
As Angel climbed over the truck, Mark engaged in the fight. His hand held onto the truck, his other hand shooting at every threat in his line of sight.
CLANG!
Just then, a bullet struck the truck’s body inches from Mark. He flinched at the spark, quickly searching for where the shot ca from. There was no one.
CLANG!
Mark jolted a little more, only this ti, hearing gunfire from within the truck.
"Get in!" Angel, now in the back of the truck, shouted. "I got him!"
Angel kept his weapon up, searching for any shooters in the upper levels of the mansion.
Mark glanced at the truck where Angel was, and just as Angel trusted him, he let go of his rifle. The weapon dangled on his back with the strap, as he climbed over the truck, hoping Angel wouldn’t let him get shot.
At the sa ti, the truck started moving.
Penny, holding the steering wheel, drew a deep breath. She glanced at her broken side mirror, catching Mark mid-climb. But then, she saw sothing glint, and she unhesitatingly steered and stomped on the gas pedal.
This action almost caused Mark to fall off the truck.
"Ah—!" Mark clutched the tal part tightly, his feet on the side of the truck’s body. The sudden drift of the vehicle made it harder for him to climb, but at the sa ti, it saved him from soone trying to shoot him, who was in Angel’s blind spot.
Gritting his teeth, Mark fought the force and pulled himself up. When his arm reached over the truck’s body, he pushed himself forcibly until he fell in. Both he and Angel rolled on the truck’s floor, hitting themselves against the other side of the body.
The truck tilted at the sudden turn, and then bounced back to its normal position.
"Ugh..." Both Angel and Mark grunted, feeling their sides ache in pain.
Their teeth clenched, hands on the surface, pushing themselves up.
"I swear..." Angel groaned, sitting up, his back against the tal wall. "I’m going to file an HR complaint after this."
Mark just grunted, but he was also considering the sa thing. After a breath, he turned to Angel, but the latter had already spoken.
"You alright?"
Mark nodded. "Thankfully."
But they both knew that they might survive a crossfire, but with Penny? She would kill them for sure. However, she was right and had just arrived on ti. After all, these n’s priority was to infiltrate the mansion.
Once Angel and Mark were back on their feet, Mark slapped the side of the truck, and they made their way to the entrance of the vehicle. He faced everyone behind, shouting,
"The mansion!"
But even before they shouted that, those who had survived Penny’s diabolical driving and were dodging the crossfire paused for a mont. When they saw where the truck was heading, panic dominated their faces.
"They’re headed to the mansion!" one man yelled. "Stop them!"
"Don’t let them get into the mansion!"
As those shouts echoed along with the gunfire, the other group also yelled—
"Make your way to the mansion!"
"To the mansion!"
"I’ll cover for you—GO!"
Angel and Mark, who were behind the truck, sat and squeezed their bodies on either side of the entrance. Covering for their n, they braced themselves for when they reached the mansion. After all, they had a feeling that Penny wouldn’t just stop and ask nicely to let them in.
She didn’t ask for the gates to open when she ramd this thing through them, right?
Just then, a loud, continuous honk echoed sharply, like New Year’s Eve, in the air.
The duo in the back looked at each other and, without thinking twice, clutched onto anything they could. That was Penny’s warning, and they were only glad she still gave them a heads-up.
HOOOOONK!
n guarding the entrance riddled the truck with continuous shots, but to no avail. In the next second, their breath hitched as their eyes widened.
"Get away!" soone shouted at the top of his lungs, and just like that, the n jumped away from the truck’s path.
They cleared the path just in ti for the truck to crash through the mansion’s entrance.
