"Ah, yes." The new boss of Nina’s departnt spoke on the phone, bowing slightly—even though the person on the other end couldn’t see him. "She’s already out of here. No, sir. She resigned."
The conversation lasted for minutes, with the new boss smiling throughout. When the call ended, he let out a satisfied chuckle as he glanced around his office. Satisfaction glead in his eyes—he had finally achieved his dream of running this departnt.
After all, he had been with this company longer than the previous boss. Yet, years ago, she had been promoted instead of him.

anwhile, at a country club, a chubby old man chuckled as he handed his phone to his assistant. He then turned his gaze toward the man playing golf with him.
Mr. Davis.
"Thank you for doing this favor for ," Mr. Davis expressed appreciatively. "I’ll be sure to rember it."
The other man, the owner of the firm, laughed. "Haha! Oh, you don’t have to. It’s the least I can do after all the help you gave years ago. If anything, I’m just glad I can repay you, even if it’s over such a small matter. It’s not a huge favor. Sure, those two were talented, but I believe in paying back the people who helped in the past."
"It’s not small at all," Mr. Davis chuckled, his smile full of satisfaction.
"Let’s just keep playing," the other man urged, and the two of them continued their ga as if kicking two people out of a company was nothing of importance.
Surely, Nina’s boss had been right.
How could she listen to soone who would never understand the struggles of those who weren’t born with a privilege life?
What a cruel world.
Money, power, and connections... how terrifying it was to see what they could do.

At the sa ti, Nina sighed heavily as she sat in a park, a box resting on her lap.
"Well, now I’m jobless," she murmured to herself, gazing at the box before letting out a small smile. "I don’t regret it, though."
If she had known that getting fired the first ti would have saved her boss from the sa fate, she might have just accepted it. But thinking about that now was pointless.
"I still feel bad, though," she sighed again. "She didn’t deserve to be kicked out."
Slowly, Nina looked up at the sky, staring at it as a thought crossed her mind.
"What am I going to do now?" she asked herself. "I can’t tell Finn just yet..."
Nina bit her tongue. She knew Finn wouldn’t be happy if she kept this from him. Besides—
Turning her head, Nina’s face soured. Across the park stood the bodyguards Finn had stationed to protect her. Even if she didn’t tell them, they would definitely inform him. She hadn’t spoken to any of them, but just the sight of her sitting there was enough for them to know what had happened.
"Gosh..." Nina lanted, pinching the bridge of her nose. She had to break the news to Finn eventually, but not right now. The day had just started, and he had work to do. She didn’t want him dropping everything just to co running to her.
"Should I just go ho?" she wondered aloud before another thought crossed her mind. "Or should I visit Penny?"
Nina paused, then shook her head. Penny couldn’t find out before Finn. If she did, she’d probably storm into the company and demand answers from the owner. Worse, she might beat him up.
She also couldn’t et up with Atlas—he was busy. Hugo? Nina had no idea where in the world he was at the mont. His phone was always dead, so reaching him was nearly impossible.
"How about Third Brother?" she mused before imdiately shaking her head. Slater was back at work and busy again.
She also couldn’t et Yugi—because if she did, Penny would find out. Yuri was probably drowning in work. Helping out at the restaurant was out of the question, too. If she slipped up, Jessa would burn down the Davis Residence.
And she was definitely not ready to call Grace to stop Jessa from committing arson.
"Should I call Lily?" she asked herself, her expression darkening as she rembered Lily’s big mouth. Once Lily found out, she would broadcast it to everyone. "Ginnie is busy with training, and Grace... I don’t think I should bother her. Grace would just tell Penny anyway."
In the end, a brief bitterness filled Nina’s chest as she scrunched up her face. Now that she had no job, she realized one thing:
Everyone she could call was... crazy!
It wasn’t that she couldn’t call them. She was sure that if she did, they would drop everything and co running to her rescue. But she also knew they wouldn’t just sit still after hearing the news.
Nina rubbed her temples, feeling a headache coming on.
"I’ll just go ho," she decided, standing up.
But instead of hailing a cab, she walked toward the bodyguards.
Seeing her approach, the guards exchanged glances. They were well aware that Nina knew they had been watching her from a distance. But they had been instructed to keep their distance so as not to interfere with her daily life. So far, they had done a good job.
Or so they thought.
Otherwise, why was she approaching them now?
Their silent question was soon answered as Nina stood in front of them.
"I didn’t get fired—I resigned," she stated bluntly, looking at the three n before her. More stood further away, but she hoped these three would relay the ssage. "So, please, don’t tell Finn. Let be the one to break the news to him, alright?"
"Uh..." The n exchanged glances again before nodding.
"Thanks." Nina smiled. "Anyway, you guys have a car, right? Can you take ho?"
"Of course."
One of the n spoke into a small device clipped to his wrist. In less than a minute, a row of cars pulled up in front of them—three sedans and two SUVs.
Seeing them, Nina’s face contorted. Only now did she realize just how many people Finn had assigned to her.
Little did she know... this wasn’t even all of them.
"At this point, I feel like the First Lady with all this security," she mumbled, laughing awkwardly as one of the guards opened the car door for her. "Thanks."
And with that, Nina’s first day of unemploynt officially began.
