These people were bad people. They victimized the innocent and used them for their own greed. Penny had been roaming around, trying to understand what this place was. She had heard about such syndicates in the past, and she knew just how cruel these people could be.

Others might say they deserved to die.

All their victims might be happy to see them et their end. However, even though Penny was here because these sa people had abducted her brother and Benjamin, she had also taken an oath to save lives. Hence, knowing Mint might be inside the building and the chances of her running into Slater—and probably Benjamin—were high, Penny stayed.

She dragged all of these n out of the way, lining them up on the side. Since she had no dical tools, all she could do was stop the bleeding. She was right that none of these n had been fatally shot. So of them weren’t even shot at all—they had just been knocked unconscious.

"Hey!" Penny called as she finished wrapping up the last person. "You guys better not run away. Otherwise, you’re dead. My Second Brother is here, and running into him is more deadly. So, if I were you, you’d better pretend you’re not even here."

Given the chaos Hugo had started earlier, Penny knew he had arrived. That was also why she wasn’t surprised to have barely encountered any enemies—they were all too busy fighting him.

"Those guys had no idea where Second Brother just ca from. That guy’s been in and out of the most dangerous country in the world like it’s a tourist spot. You guys wouldn’t survive a day in there," she murmured, shaking her head.

That was also the reason Penny was sure this wasn’t Hugo’s doing. Hugo was usually calm and lived a laid-back life where his need for money was always dire. Despite that, he had always been happy with the way he lived. The problem was, that Hugo was different when he was in battle mode.

Not that she was judging his morals—because in Hugo’s eyes, there were only two people in battles: allies and enemies. When faced with enemies, he showed no rcy. If he did, that could cost him his life and the lives of those with him. He’d learned that lesson after losing n because he showed rcy during battle.

Penny remained squatting, cupping her face, her gaze lingering on the few people she had treated. "Prison is bad, you know?" she uttered. "Don’t think that because I treated you so you won’t die, I’m kind. I’ll make sure you stay in prison and don’t get any special treatnt."

Having said that, Penny pushed herself up and kept her gaze fixed on them. She shook her head as she heard the distant sound of rotors. Turning her head in the direction of the sound, she narrowed her eyes, catching sight of a light in the air.

"That’s fast..." she whispered. "Is that Mint’s help? Or Renren’s?"

Penny shook her head. "Never mind."

With that, Penny jogged back to the entrance to proceed with her original plan. The entryway wasn’t as crowded anymore. Though the scent of blood was thick and the signs of a one-sided fight still lingered, she knew no one had died... yet.

Hopefully, help would co quickly, so these people could live and receive proper punishnt. Dying was too easy for the cris they had committed.

---

Monts later...

"Third Brother!" Penny yelled, trying to get Slater’s attention—wherever he was. "Third Brother!"

She had just reached the stairs when she suddenly stopped at the sound of gunfire. "Third Brother!" she panicked, picking up her pace to follow the sound. But just as she reached the level above, she paused.

"What in the..." she trailed off, her eyes falling on the corridor, which was even more grueso than the entrance. Penny clenched her jaw and ran to check if anyone was alive in the hallway.

Unfortunately, all of them had been shot dead.

Unlike the gunshot wounds from the n at the entrance, Penny could tell that these people had been shot once, precisely in vital areas. So had died on the spot, while others had been shot near vital points, which would kill them—just more slowly.

"This is weird," she whispered to herself as she straightened up, knowing there was nothing more she could do. She didn’t dwell on it, but at the back of her mind, she knew that the shooter who had dealt with the n at the entrance was different from the one who had done this.

Both could be good shooters, but the approaches were distinct.

Could it have been Hugo? The precision matched his fighting style. But how did he get in here when he had been at the other building near the office?

BANG!

All of Penny’s thoughts ca to a halt when she heard another gunshot a few levels above her. This ti, she didn’t call out, knowing it would put her in danger. The only reason she had been yelling recklessly was because there had been no movent.

BANG!

"Shit!" she panicked, quickening her pace. Her footsteps barely made a sound, her breathing controlled. The tension was high, and the air felt stale.

The echoes of the gunfire kept ringing in her ears, carried by the night breeze passing through the broken windows. When another shot rang out, Penny slowed down.

She was close.

This level was where the gunfire had co from.

As she continued, she pressed her body against the wall. Her chest heaved in and out, her gulps echoing in her ears. She had a firearm with her, but she didn’t want to use it. The only reason she carried it was for ergencies, but as much as possible, she didn’t want to resort to using it.

But now...

Penny slung the rifle over her shoulder in front of her, holding it with the muzzle pointed ahead. As she neared the floor of her destination, she tried to sense any movent. There was nothing. She carefully stepped out into the hallway, only to spot soone standing at the end of it.

The man standing had his hands raised, walking backward carefully. The more he walked, the closer the person he was looking at moved toward him. Penny saw the muzzle peek out from behind the wall. She couldn’t see the person holding the man at gunpoint.

The man begged the other person, while Penny hid again, wanting to see if there was anyone else in the area. As she peeked, the person holding the rifle slowly ca into view.

She wasn’t prepared for what she saw next.

"Third Brother...?" she whispered, her brows knitting. "Is that... really him?"

BANG!
