"I would like to introduce you to our new Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Atlas Bennet."
As soon as those words left Zoren’s mouth, the people on standby opened the door. Everyone in the room was still processing the information when Atlas walked into the eting room.
Dean dropped the pen he had been spinning to kill ti, wide-eyed. He even heard it echo as it bounced off the floor. Not just him, but everyone — for a mont — had their jaws on the floor.
What in the world was going on?
Everyone wanted to deny this information, especially William and Jonathan. However, how could they deny or convince themselves that they misheard Zoren when Atlas Bennet, in the flesh, was now standing in front of them?
"For the longest ti since I took this seat, this particular position has been vacant," Zoren spoke in the sa tone, studying Atlas by his side before facing everyone. "Thankfully, Mr. Atlas Bennet accepted the offer after much persuasion. With him, I hope the operations of the Pierson Corporation will run more smoothly, and my vision for the company will be achieved faster than scheduled."
What answered Zoren was a pure, heavy silence. Everyone was still searching their hearts for what to say in response to this announcent.
"First, I would like to introduce myself properly." Taking advantage of the silence, Atlas took a step forward and lowered his head. "My na is Atlas Bennet, the forr CEO of one of the biggest logistics companies in Anteca: Global Pri Logistics. I look forward to working with every one of you."
Once again, the response to Atlas’s words was silence.
Of course, they knew Atlas Bennet. Even if they didn’t want to, they knew him because he was one of the high-profile businessn in the industry. They had heard everything about him — all the good and bad.
But... why was this madman here? Introducing himself and claiming he looked forward to working with them?
"Hah..." Dean let out an airy laugh, almost as if scoffing. "Him...? In... here?"
Dean intuitively looked in Finn’s direction, only to see Finn smiling from ear to ear while looking at Atlas. Only then did Dean put two and two together, rocking his head back and forth, his gaze shifting between Finn, Atlas, and Zoren.
’So, that’s the plan... huh?’Dean was torn. He didn’t know if he should laugh or feel irritated because, for sure, these Bennets just wouldn’t stop poking their noses into the Pierson Family’s business.
Dean had warned Penny, but instead of listening, she "married" Zoren. And now, her brother was taking an important role in the company? Out of the blue?
’Did they think it’s that easy?’Jonathan’s face twitched, his previously kind deanor now gone. All that remained was utter shock, staring at both Zoren and Atlas. ’He’s putting Atlas in the front lines? Hah!’
Jonathan moved his unblinking gaze to William, who was frozen in place. ’What is this old man doing?’ He tapped William’s foot, snapping him back to reality. ’Hey, don’t just stand there. Do sothing! You can’t let Atlas Bennet into this company. You’re going to be dead.’
William snapped back to reality when he felt Jonathan poking his shoe. Still shocked, he gazed at Jonathan, only to et the dreadful look plastered on the latter’s face. Now, William was unsure if he was more shocked by the psychotic look on Jonathan’s face or the fact that Zoren was suddenly bringing Atlas Bennet in as the Chief Operating Officer.
"CEO Pierson, what is the aning of this?!" Since William wasn’t reacting, one of his lackeys took it upon himself to speak up. His loud voice snapped everyone back to the present ti. "How can you fill the President’s spot when you don’t even need it in the first place?!"
"Besides, Atlas Bennet, if I’m not mistaken, was kicked out by the Bennet Family—by Chairman Bennet himself! Rumors have it that he committed sothing so serious that the chairman had no choice but to expel him before the trouble could spread to the family!" Another man shouted.
"We can’t let such a troubleso person into our company! Let alone give him a position that is essential to the company!"
Many of the sa people who had earlier argued against the illegitimate child now spoke up again. This ti, everyone could tell they were not pleased at all.
"CEO Pierson, with all due respect, this should’ve been discussed with us beforehand! You cannot just decide this on your own!" William harrumphed, fueling the fire while it was still hot. "Even if you want this to happen, you still need the board’s approval! This is an important role, and we cannot just let anybody take such a crucial position!"
Zoren nodded in understanding. "I understand everyone’s opinions and concerns, so I hope you’ll understand my reasons for not bringing it up sooner. Since this is the Pierson Family, I was worried that Mr. Atlas Bennet might face so complications before the vote occurred. I simply wanted to ensure he would make it to voting day safe and sound."
Voting?
The lines on everyone’s foreheads deepened, their faces revealing their confusion about the situation.
"Do not worry, Director William, and our dearest shareholders," Zoren continued. "Although it was the chairwoman’s and my decision to finally open this spot, we also understand that we couldn’t just act on our own. Therefore, I’ve called this ergency eting to open a vote on whether you approve of Atlas Bennet as Pierson Corporation’s president."
He paused, studying the still-shocked faces surrounding the table. "But before we proceed, I’ve prepared a summarized portfolio of Mr. Bennet’s qualifications so you can understand him better and make an inford decision. The portfolios are right in front of you. Please, read them carefully and think about the future of Pierson Corporation."
"It is also the chairwoman’s wish, as this idea ca to fruition because she was concerned about the company," he added, urging everyone to take the folder in front of them. "Please consider the future of this company as you make your decision. Again, I’m putting the company’s fate in your hands."
