If soone treated her well, naturally, she would reciprocate in kind.
“Considering your special family circumstances, and that you’re busy with work, I was wondering what you think about the preliminary proceedings before the wedding?” Grand Lady Johnson continued. “If you’re okay with it, I’ll deal with you directly, can we do that?”
Victoria knew that wealthy and powerful families pay attention to these rules, and there were many etiquettes to go through before marriage, but on her end, there really weren’t any demands.
So, she responded, “Grand Lady Johnson, I have thought about this matter. Due to so of my special circumstances, I think it’s best to keep things simple.”
“How could that be? You are the woman my second son is going to marry. So things can be simplified, but not the wedding processions. A woman only has one wedding in her lifeti, don’t you think?” Grand Lady Johnson asked.
Victoria laughed and said, “I understand, your concern is indeed good and thoughtful. However, there have been so problems with the company recently, and I’m sure you know a bit about it, so I really can’t spare much ti.”
Arnold echoed, “Mom, Victoria and I have already gotten our certificate, and considering the current situation with Victoria’s company, we’ll be able to take a day off to take wedding photos, and another day for the wedding itself. Everything else we can simplify, right?”
“You’ve gotten your certificate already? When did this happen?” Grand Lady Johnson seed surprised.
Everyone else at the table was equally surprised.
“So ti ago, we had so free ti so we got the certificate,” Arnold nonchalantly stated, as if it was the most normal thing in the world.
“Ah… You young people…” unexpectedly sighed Grand Lady Johnson, but then, she quickly laughed again, “Anyway, you are to be married. Whether you get the certificate earlier or later doesn’t really matter. However, the wedding – you can’t just let it slide so easily.”
“Mom, I understand that you take this matter very seriously, but Victoria and I also don’t want you to exert yourself too much. We prefer to keep things as simple as possible,” Arnold explained. He didn’t really want Grand Lady Johnson ddling in their wedding arrangents.
But.
After all, she was his mother, and she had voluntarily offered to take care of these matters. If he couldn’t even offer her this courtesy, he would look out of place.
If she had opposed his marriage, he could have arranged everything himself. Now that she had agreed and willingly taken up the responsibilities, he had to respect his elder’s wishes.
“You young people always try to simplify things, but the betrothal gifts and other matters like wedding arrangents, guest list, etc., can’t be simplified. I have to talk to Victoria about it,” Grand Lady Johnson said quite seriously and earnestly.
