Chapter 418: The so-called marriage 3 Chapter 418: The so-called marriage 3 That year, Arnold Johnson was betrayed by soone close to him and was targeted by his enemies. Samuel Johnson, Chloe’s father, saved his life by taking a bullet for him.
If it wasn’t for Samuel taking that bullet, maybe Arnold would have died, though it is also possible that he wouldn’t have.
When Samuel was shot, he was rushed to the hospital for ergency treatnt. He didn’t die imdiately, but his chances of surviving were only one in ten thousand – in other words, a certainty of death.
Though the bullet didn’t hit Samuel’s vital organs, it triggered an old wound, and because of a ti delay, the gunshot wound was infected. As a result, Samuel had only a few days to live.
Arnold was extrely grateful for Samuel saving his life. Samuel had two daughters and had lost his wife not long after his younger daughter was born. Over the years, although there had been won in Samuel’s life, he had never remarried.
Lying in the hospital bed, Samuel patted Arnold on the shoulder and told him, “Arnold, I’m about to die and have only a few days left. The only thing I worry about is my two daughters and the many brothers who have fought beside all these years.”
“Uncle Dean, rest assured, I will take care of them,” Arnold imdiately promised.
After hearing this, Samuel felt relieved and said, “I know you’re a loyal and righteous person. Before my death, there’s one last thing I hope you can do for , can you?”
“Uncle Dean, what is it?” Arnold would naturally agree as long as it was sothing he could do.
Samuel looked at him, and with a weak smile said, “My eldest daughter, Chloe, has had a crush on you since she was young. This has never changed over the years. You two are childhood sweethearts and also share the bond of saving each other’s lives. Before I go, I hope to see your wedding with Chloe. Is that possible?”
It seed like a request taking advantage of Arnold’s gratitude. Hearing this, Arnold fell silent, not replying imdiately.
There are many ways to repay a favor and marrying to repay it was sothing Arnold disliked the most, especially since he saw Chloe as a younger sister and had never thought of marrying her.
Seeing Arnold’s expression, Samuel started to cough. It took a while for him to stop and then, with a weak voice, he said, “I know this request may be a bit too much, but I would feel very reassured leaving Chloe in your hands. There’s no other woman by your side right now, and Chloe is not only beautiful but also very educated. Most importantly, she’s devoted to you. I believe she won’t let you down in the future.”
“Uncle Dean, it’s not that I think Chloe isn’t good enough.”
Arnold was about to explain more but Samuel raised his hand to stop him, “I know how young people like you think. When my marriage with your aunt was arranged by our family, I was also very resistant. But after getting married, I found out how wonderful your aunt was in so many ways. I couldn’t forget her even now. After she passed away, I never married or had another child. It won’t be long before I see her again.”
Samuel seed lost in the mories of his ti with his wife, while Arnold remained silent.
After a while, Samuel spoke again, “Arnold, think it over. Uncle Dean can wait another two days.”
Having said that, Samuel closed his eyes, seeming very tired, and appeared to fall asleep.
Arnold covered him with a blanket and then quietly left the room.
He still felt strongly resistant to the idea of marrying Chloe, but under these circumstances, he found himself caught between a rock and a hard place.
