55: Chapter 55: That Is My Flesh

Dog ran to Wu Xiaoyu’s side and barked in the direction of Niu Dachun and a few others.

Wu Xiaoyu had faintly heard soone shouting when she ca out of the Jade Token.

Now she inadvertently glimpsed a trace of blood at the corner of Dog’s mouth, and imdiately sensed sothing was wrong.

Damn it!

Did this beast bite soone?

I’ve repeatedly warned it not to bite people, yet it treated my words like passing wind!

Wu Xiaoyu imdiately kicked it and then, with a flashlight in hand, cautiously walked towards where Dog was barking.

As he walked, he heard soone screaming, descending from the mountain.

He felt slightly relieved; it seed no one was bitten to death.

Wu Xiaoyu quickly changed direction and also went down the mountain.

Niu Dachun had a chunk of flesh bitten off his butt, naturally causing him excruciating pain, making it impossible for him to keep any secrets.

His screams imdiately woke up many families near the street.

By the ti Wu Xiaoyu ca down the mountain, people in the village had already turned on their lights and gotten up.

Following the bloodstains, he made his way to the village chief’s house.

Just as he was about to ask what had happened, he saw the village chief burst out of his house, riding his tricycle.

Niu Dachun was climbing up on the vehicle, screaming, while his mother sat beside him, sobbing profusely, and three young n from the Niu Family were pushing the tricycle forward.

Only when Wu Xiaoyu saw that he hadn’t sustained any life-threatening injuries did he feel completely at ease, feigning concern, he said: “Uncle Mansheng, what happened to Dachun?”

At this mont, Uncle Mansheng had no ti to pay attention to him, using all his might to push the tricycle away, disappearing in a cloud of dust.

Such a big commotion naturally woke up several families near the village chief’s house, who opened their doors and ca out, asking each other what had happened.

Seeing Wu Xiaoyu standing in the middle of the road, they hurriedly gathered around and asked: “Xiaoyu, what happened here?

It’s earth-shattering!”

Wu Xiaoyu guessed that Niu Dachun had likely been bitten by Dog while ssing around near his chicken farm but still pretended to have no idea, spreading his hands:

“I don’t know either!

I was sleeping on the mountain when I heard soone crying and running down.

I followed them here and saw the village chief taking Niu Dachun to the hospital!”

To the hospital?

From the commotion earlier, it didn’t sound like just a bump or scrape!

As the villagers were discussing, an old man with a scruffy beard and dressed in tattered clothes rushed over, nervously grabbing Wu Xiaoyu’s hand and asking: “Xiaoyu!

What happened to Niu Dachun?”

Wu Xiaoyu was startled by this abrupt attack but cald himself down and replied: “Uncle Yuzhu, it looks like Niu Dachun got injured accidentally and was taken to the hospital by his family!”

The surrounding villagers found it strange that Liu Yuzhu was so concerned about Niu Dachun but didn’t dare to think more about it.

Daxin Village didn’t have a hospital, not even a clinic.

Now that the person had been taken to the hospital, there wouldn’t be any interesting news tonight, so everyone went ho, except for Liu Yuzhu who squatted on a pile of corn stalks not far from the village chief’s house.

Wu Xiaoyu gave Liu Yuzhu a significant look and then went back up the mountain, following the bloodstains to where Niu Dachun was bitten by Dog.

Besides the bloodstains, there were so tools like machetes and scissors, and a large section of the net he had set up had been cut.

Oh!

Why do these people have such unrelenting hearts?

Luckily, justice prevails, and bad people get bad retribution.

Thinking of this, Wu Xiaoyu couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for Dog.

After all, it was defending his property!

Moreover, this guy was very clever, not biting any fatal parts.

Kicking him was just a small punishnt to deter greater mischief.

Wu Xiaoyu returned to the hut, found so fine wire, and repaired the net that had been cut.

He didn’t touch the tools like the machetes and scissors on the ground, waiting for tomorrow’s show to unfold.

With so part of his body swelling, a new day began again.

Wu Xiaoyu descended the mountain early.

Returning ho, he was imdiately chased by his mother, asking about last night’s events.

Wu Xiaoyu dared not tell her there were wolves on the mountain, and that Niu Dachun had been bitten.

He only repeated what he had told the neighbors.

Near noon, Niu Mansheng’s family returned from the hospital.

Niu Dachun lay feebly on the tricycle, his arm still receiving intravenous therapy.

Seeing this, Wu Xiaoyu couldn’t help but feel curious; how could he be discharged so quickly?

Wasn’t he bitten by Dog?

Not staying in the hospital, weren’t they afraid of bacterial infection?

The Niu Family received news last night that Niu Dachun was bitten by a wolf.

They brought eggs and chicken to visit him, with neighbors also mixing in to get the truth.

Soon, rumors spread in the village, with the Niu Family fabricating a story saying several young n from the Niu Family were wandering in the village last night when they encountered a wolf.

Fearing the wolf would harm the villagers, they tried to drive it away with stones.

Unexpectedly, Niu Dachun was bitten when he wasn’t careful.

This news caused panic in the village; recently, it was said wolves appeared in the mountains, now one had co to the village.

What to do now!

To calm the villagers, and to teach the village chief a lesson, Wu Xiaoyu carried several machetes found on the mountain and marched into the village chief’s house in front of everyone.

This act naturally piqued the villagers’ interest, as the relationship between the two families was already tenuous.

Why was Wu Xiaoyu carrying machetes now?

Was he taking advantage of the situation?

The bored villagers speculated wildly and quickly gathered in the village chief’s courtyard.

Wu Xiaoyu called out to Uncle Mansheng in front of everyone: “Uncle Mansheng, this is your family’s machete, right!”

Having his son bitten by a wolf was already grief-inducing enough, and now being confronted by Wu Xiaoyu with evidence, Uncle Mansheng hurriedly pulled him into the house, wanting to apologize sincerely to avoid further trouble.

But Wu Xiaoyu didn’t intend to forgive him.

He said directly: “Uncle Mansheng, last night my chicken farm’s net was cut, and these machetes were scattered on the ground.

Moreover, there was a lot of blood around!

What’s going on here?”

Uncle Mansheng still harbored so hope of passing off the incident, shouting to the crowd: “That scoundrel stole our machetes.

You do such heartless things and still want to bla our family!

Has your conscience been eaten by a dog?”

The neighboring villagers had already guessed most of the story from Wu Xiaoyu’s words but didn’t dare to tear off the village chief’s fig leaf, so they watched the drama with high spirits.

Wu Xiaoyu, seeing his indignant act, almost wanted to applaud, but he pulled out a piece of cloth from his pocket and, after unfolding it, revealed a small piece of flesh.

“Uncle Mansheng, this should be the flesh from that scoundrel’s body, right?

Why don’t you ask around the village whose flesh this is?” Wu Xiaoyu said, covering his nose with one hand and looking disgusted.

The neighbors, seeing this object, couldn’t help but shiver.

What nonsense about helping the villagers fight wolves!

They were cutting nets on the mountain and got bitten by a wolf instead.

Upstairs, lying on the bed and pretending to be weak, Niu Dachun heard the commotion downstairs and yelled, “Dad… Dad… That’s my flesh… My flesh!”

His own son not only failed in committing a misdeed but also got bitten by a wolf, and now foolishly admitting it was his fault.

This made the village chief both sorrowful and angry.

You useless thing, why don’t you just die!
