Zoe Sutton released her arm, glanced around aningfully, and said, "So you’re really an employee at Veridian."
Scarlett Shaw responded with a light "hmm".
Yet her scalp was tingling with unease.
That night when she and Julian Ford kissed by the street, Zoe Sutton saw them. The silence from Zoe was telling, as was the turbulent and treacherous look exchanged between her and Julian.
She always had a feeling that these two weren’t over each other, and she would end up as collateral damage in their love-hate dynamic.
"If I’m not mistaken, your na is Scarlett Shaw, right?"
Zoe Sutton didn’t seem in any hurry to leave; instead, she crossed her arms and started chatting with her.
Scarlett Shaw nodded.
Zoe Sutton: "How old are you?"
Scarlett Shaw: "Twenty-four."
"So young, a full five years younger than Julian, no wonder he’s into your body."
Zoe Sutton deliberately emphasized the last two words. Even the dullest person could catch the insinuation: Scarlett was young and taking shortcuts, trying to utilize her body to climb up.
Scarlett Shaw felt no waves of emotion inside, even wanted to give Zoe a thumbs up.
Her relationship with Julian Ford was already in the shadows, nothing to deny.
Scarlett hadn’t put on makeup today, nor lipstick, and with several sleepless nights, her face looked pale, devoid of color.
While Zoe’s lips were as striking as roses, carrying an elegant and intellectual smile.
In comparison, to others, standing beside Zoe only made Scarlett look like an ugly duckling.
However, Scarlett herself didn’t care much. She felt a bit offended by Zoe, but since Zoe had just lent a hand, she politely said, "I’m in a hurry to board, so I won’t keep Miss Sutton any longer."
Zoe Sutton smiled, "Afraid I’ll cause trouble for you?"
Scarlett Shaw: "Not at all."
Zoe Sutton: "Don’t worry, I’m already engaged. No matter how things go, Julian and I are impossible. If he wants to keep you, I have no right to interfere."
Scarlett Shaw: "..."
She was sowhat baffled. What was Zoe trying to do by telling her all this? Lacking soone to chat with?
"I just see that you’re quite young and wanted to remind you not to really think that just because Julian slept with you, you’re special." Zoe laughed, "On the contrary, the fact that he easily slept with you only ans he keeps you as pure entertainnt, just a toy for passing the ti."
Upon hearing this, Scarlett nodded, "You’re quite right."
Zoe Sutton was taken aback.
Scarlett’s words were sincere because Julian had said similar things to her before.
No wonder these two used to be an ironclad couple; they both had a gift of gab.
Scarlett paused and asked, "Miss Sutton, is this your heartfelt attempt to save a wayward girl like ?"
Zoe Sutton’s lips twitched as she squeezed out two words through gritted teeth: "...That’s right."
Scarlett expressed genuine gratitude, "Thank you then."
Zoe Sutton: "..."
Scarlett pondered and lowered her voice, "But if you really want to help , you should start with Julian. As you said, he’s my patron. I’m just a poor underdog, hardly in a position to negotiate with the boss, don’t you think?"
Zoe Sutton’s beautiful face twisted involuntarily, "I didn’t expect you to have such thick skin."
Scarlett Shaw: "Well, that’s thanks to your ex-boyfriend."
Zoe Sutton’s delicate eyebrows knitted, "Are you flaunting in front of ?"
Scarlett certainly felt wronged.
Her thick skin had been developed under Julian Ford’s peculiar and vicious temperant.
Now, speaking frankly, Zoe seems to think she’s being arrogant?
"How could that be?" Scarlett looked earnestly at Zoe and explained, "Miss Sutton, everything I just said was sincere. If you could make Julian turn back and save this brazen lost girl, I’d be grateful."
After speaking, she quickly checked the ti. Seeing that not much was left, she hurriedly turned towards the security checkpoint.
However, as she was about to move, a towering figure stood in front of her, calm yet oppressively intense.
Scarlett’s nerves tensed, "President Ford."
Julian Ford glanced at her indifferently, a aningful smile tugging at his ridiculously handso face.
It was a smile Scarlett was all too familiar with.
A month ago, when she refused the Cloud Mansion keys, Julian had smiled at her just like that.
Totally in control, playing her dizzy and submissive, without a word of complaint.
"Julian."
In the mont of silence, Zoe stepped forward in her limited-edition high heels, reached out, and pulled Julian’s tie, forcing the man to bow and give her his full attention.
"I’ll wait for you at the end of the year."
Her red lips curved with a confident smile, one of absolute assurance.
Julian’s indifferent eyes fell on the hand holding his tie, a slight curl to his lips, his Adam’s apple rolling, "Hmm."
Scarlett, bent over, turned to escape the two of them.
"Stop."
A cold and rciless male voice.
Scarlett: "..."
Julian casually glanced at the eager-to-leave silhouette, then looked back at Zoe’s face with detachnt, "Anything else?"
Zoe Sutton’s smile froze.
Suppressing her irritation, she replied in a good mood, "I’ll see you through the security check."
Julian briefly looked at her, "You have a lot of free ti?"
Zoe Sutton: "..."
Zoe’s pride got the better of her, and with Julian’s subtle dismissal, she turned and walked out of the airport without looking back.
Scarlett watched the storm between them quiet down and hurriedly said, "President Ford, my boarding ti is near, I really need to go through security."
Julian fixed her with a look, "Wayward girl?"
Scarlett: "..."
Julian’s lips curled indifferently, "What are you wayward about? Do tell."
Scarlett: "..."
Julian: "And explain what you an by ’turn back before it’s too late’."
"It just ans what it ans." Scarlett replied evasively, "Otherwise, you could check a modern idioms dictionary, which would explain it much better than I could."
Julian smiled calmly.
Scarlett was in distress.
It seed this gentleman had no intention of letting her go.
Aaron Carson approached from a distance, saw Scarlett, looked surprised for a second, then quickly composed himself and said to Julian, "President Ford, it’s ti to board."
Julian glanced at Scarlett, "Upgrade her ticket."
Aaron Carson: "Yes."
Scarlett felt bitter, but dared not speak, forced to follow Julian onto the private boarding vehicle.
As they disembarked and boarded, Aaron nudged her arm, "Don’t look so gloomy. If soone else had this opportunity, they’d be all over President Ford."
Scarlett whispered back, "Then let soone else have it."
She had just finished speaking when Julian, a few steps ahead on the stairs, suddenly stopped and glanced back at her.
