Scarlett Shaw’s tear-filled eyes slowly widened.
The thin layer of anger dispersed into disbelief, leaving only shock, "When did you..."
"Every ti I went to see a doctor, I was happy to have a girlfriend accompanying from afar."
Julian Ford gently wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes, an uncharacteristic tenderness in his actions.
But it only made Scarlett more anxious.
Julian: "You included in your wish upon a teor shower, and I’m honored."
Warm tears rolled down, soaking his fingers.
Scarlett threw herself into Julian’s arms.
How could she not have thought of it?
She managed to secretly find out about his illness, so how could her clever boyfriend not see through her?
Being too smart isn’t always a good thing. Once you see through sothing, you may end up facing the worst outco earlier and more helplessly than others.
Scarlett had imagined countless ways to tell Julian she already knew about his illness.
The only thing she hadn’t anticipated was Julian bringing up the topic himself.
And once this topic was opened, it was certain they both had to make a choice.
"I don’t want to hear any sweet words right now, and don’t think you can trick into breaking up with sugar-coated lies."
Scarlett lifted her head, her dark eyes wet and clear, glaring at Julian angrily and sadly.
"Tomorrow you’re going to be admitted to the hospital and start treatnt imdiately."
Julian picked her up, sat on the sofa, placed Scarlett on his lap, and looked into her eyes, saying, "I will treat the illness, but I have plans for when to do it. First, you must tell all your wishes."
"Tell you my **!
Scarlett’s eyes turned red again with urgency, "What you’re saying sounds like a last will and testant!"
She was really getting furious!
"No difference."
Julian did not deny he was preparing for the worst.
Up to this point, in matters like this, he didn’t think it was good to build an ivory tower where everything seed like it would turn out fine for Scarlett.
"But Scarlett, with the treatnt, I only want to face it alone."
The implication being, she could choose to leave him before that.
How could Scarlett manage that?
She knew he wasn’t saying this out of love, nor to avoid holding her back or anything of the sort, but because this was how Julian had always dealt with emotions and issues in his past thirty years—facing life and death alone was actually more comfortable and natural for him than having soone accompany him.
He could be tender for the love he bore her, but he couldn’t change who he truly was.
Just like Scarlett herself, she couldn’t let go of his hand at a ti like this.
"Julian Ford, you’re a liar!"
Tears poured down.
Scarlett bit down hard and unrelentingly on the side of his neck, leaving an imprint of blood.
"You said yourself a few days ago, that no matter the reason I leave you, you would hate , yet now you’re trying to drive away!"
Julian, however, seed unaware of the pain. He gently pressed her neck down and held her close, his voice steady, yet more tender than ever:
"Scarlett, I told you, you are the bravest and most wonderful. To you, love won’t be everything in life; with the right conditions, you can have many dreams to pursue, and the sense of achievent from realizing your dreams will bring more joy than the dopamine from love."
"Many of the pains we think we can’t overco will pass once we see a bigger world."
"If it’s you, you’ll definitely move forward fearlessly."
Before eting Scarlett, Julian Ford never believed anyone loved him, so he never learned to love anyone.
It was Scarlett who showed him another possibility.
Even if no one loved him, he could love soone else.
But this ’soone else’ was limited to Scarlett alone.
Yet, Scarlett refused to listen.
So walls won’t let us turn back unless we crash into them ourselves; so pains won’t cease unless we tread through them personally.
Right now, her heart and eyes were filled only with him.
"I don’t have those great dreams you ntioned."
Scarlett looked directly into his eyes.
The stubbornness in her apricot eyes was even stronger than the calmness in his.
"If I really have to say there’s one, then it’s only you; you are my only dream now."
"If you think that saying such things makes a vulgar, love-struck woman, you can destroy my dream right away; just tell you don’t love anymore, and I’ll turn around and leave."
Just like Julian had said before—
In this relationship, the one holding the reins has always been the forward-moving Scarlett.
She had long since grasped his soft spot, certain he would never say such words to her, and was thus brazen and decisive in saying this.
Hurting the ones closest to us with harsh and hurtful words, masked as love, in Julian’s understanding, is not true love, regardless of the reasons.
After all, he grew up in such "love."
Do not impose on others what you yourself do not desire.
Julian Ford was the most aware of how painful the harm from this manner was, even if it was within kinship, and love was no different.
Harsh words, he had said too many during the only argunt they had.
He wouldn’t hurt her in the sa way again.
But, although Julian wouldn’t say intentionally hurtful things to Scarlett, the fact that he might leave her was already the greatest hurt.
The slight anger just dormant in her apricot eyes resurfaced.
The flas flared up.
Even more intensely than before.
Scarlett’s long lashes were adorned with bright tears, but she didn’t seem pitiful; instead, her deanor was imposing and aggressive:
"Let ask you again, what if I leave you and end up with soone else? Would you still help realize my dream of being with another man?"
A shadow passed swiftly over the calm in Julian’s eyes.
Scarlett noticed, yet she smiled mockingly: "See, you simply can’t do it."
Julian gazed intently at her.
Without denying it.
Scarlett was the type to easily take a mile when given an inch.
Even though a voice inside was already telling her so words ought not to be said at such a ti.
But she still spoke coldly, "You said you hated being lied to, but Julian Ford, you’re the biggest liar of all."
"You’re not pushing away because of so-called love; it’s just due to your own weakness, because you don’t want to see how fragile and tornted by illness you are, because you don’t dare to see hurt and sad for you, you say grandiose things to push away!"
"Just like in the beginning, knowing your illness, with no intention of treatnt, you still selfishly made your secret lover, made uncontrollably fall for you, and then selfishly made your girlfriend, let fall for you more and more, and when you needed to be liked, you kept by your side. Now that you don’t need it anymore, you’re eager to let go, right?"
"Julian Ford, from beginning to end, the person you truly think about is yourself."
"That’s just how selfish you are."
