Josiah Sutton was briefly taken aback.

A certain premonition, neither good nor bad, rose in his heart.

Before he could say anything, Scarlett Shaw suddenly turned her head, saw it was him, and her clean, pretty face curved into a polite, gentle smile. But the question she asked left Josiah montarily unsure of how to respond.

Scarlett Shaw: "Did Julian Ford co to see you for treatnt today?"

Josiah Sutton: "..."

Compared to Josiah Sutton’s awkward helplessness, Scarlett Shaw seed much calr and more composed. For a mont, Josiah saw Julian Ford’s shadow in Scarlett Shaw.

Those who love each other and are willing to sacrifice for each other always beco more and more alike.

Josiah Sutton suddenly thought of this phrase.

He was happy for his friend, yet his own feelings were bitter and complex.

His good friend was truly lucky to have such a wonderful girl, who loved him while also bringing him vitality and hope.

But as for him, he couldn’t even speak of love. To be precise, it was all one-sided from the beginning to the end. The other person got what they wanted and left.

Scarlett Shaw hadn’t received Josiah Sutton’s answer. She saw he was not only silent, but his handso brows also furrowed slightly, and her heart, which was strong and calm, couldn’t help but twist in pain.

"How is his illness?"

Scarlett Shaw’s voice was unconsciously tense.

Josiah Sutton gazed at Scarlett Shaw, lost in thought.

He and Julian Ford had been good friends for so many years, and he knew him well. With Julian Ford’s personality, it was impossible for him to take the initiative to tell Scarlett Shaw about this. This man’s psychological defenses were particularly strong, and any possibility of exposing weakness, he would hide without anyone knowing.

Eliminating the impossible, the only answer was that Scarlett Shaw had discovered it herself.

Josiah Sutton pressed his lips together without speaking.

Although Scarlett Shaw was now Julian Ford’s girlfriend, Julian Ford was still a patient, and Josiah was the doctor. Out of respect for patient privacy, he wouldn’t casually tell others.

Scarlett Shaw noticed his concern and proactively said, "If it’s really inconvenient to divulge details, can you just tell if there’s a life risk?"

Josiah Sutton: "Every surgery has risks. I can only say that Julian has enough resources to afford the best treatnt, which relatively reduces the risk. But postoperative complications are unpredictable."

Scarlett Shaw slowly lowered her eyes. Her apricot eyes carried a mist of unfallen tears, not visible in Josiah’s line of sight.

"It’s the brain, isn’t it," she asked softly.

Brain surgery complications—vision, body, mory—any of these impacts are hard for anyone to endure.

Josiah Sutton’s elongated eyes flashed with surprise, involuntarily frowning, recalling the previous conversation.

He hadn’t ntioned the specific part.

"Was it the New Year’s Eve that night..."

As the words fell, Scarlett Shaw looked up at him.

Josiah didn’t need to say another word because her gaze told him that his guess was right.

The matter he and Julian Ford talked about in the ward that night, Scarlett Shaw had heard it all.

Josiah Sutton’s eyes darkened slightly as he gazed at Scarlett Shaw. "Since you knew back then, why did you still agree to be with him without hesitation? Didn’t you feel like jumping into a pit of fire?"

Indeed, in the course of a relationship, emotions can deepen in mutual aid, but there’s also the possibility of depletion and mutual disdain.

Josiah Sutton had never seen Julian Ford together with Scarlett Shaw.

But he knew what Julian Ford was like before eting Scarlett Shaw.

The Julian Ford who cared about nothing, not even his own life, since Scarlett Shaw entered his life, Josiah realized for the first ti that his good friend wanted to live well.

Therefore, the relationship between Scarlett Shaw and Julian Ford must be the forr kind.

Once love takes root and sprouts, it grows wildly out of control, and the loss following deep affection inevitably brings indelible pain.

"He’s not a pit of fire."

Suddenly, Scarlett Shaw’s words caused Josiah’s pupils to contract.

"He is Julian Ford, the one I like the most. Since I like him, retreat has never been an option for ."

Her voice was light like a feather, but the weight in her words made one’s heart shiver.

For a mont, Josiah Sutton was at a loss for words.

Instead, Scarlett Shaw, the party involved, looked up at him, her eyes steady, and earnestly asked, "Dr. Sutton, can I ask you a favor?"

Although shaken by Scarlett’s response, Josiah remained sensible and said, "Go ahead."

Scarlett Shaw: "In the future, when Julian cos for his checkups, could you let know in advance?"

Josiah was a smart man.

Upon hearing Scarlett Shaw’s request, he imdiately understood what she wanted to do.

However, guessing is one thing, but being inwardly astonished is another matter.

If it were his own sister, the mont she knew Julian was ill, she wouldn’t hold it for so long, keeping it a secret. She’d imdiately confront him, demanding why he didn’t tell her.

Of course, people with different personalities would undoubtedly respond differently to the sa situation.

They aren’t inherently good or bad.

But Josiah had to admit that Scarlett Shaw’s approach was entirely considerate of Julian Ford’s feelings.

"Okay."

He ultimately couldn’t bear to refuse, giving a definite answer.

"But if Julian never tells you, do you really plan to keep pretending you don’t know and foolishly co to see him every ti in secret?"

Scarlett Shaw nodded without hesitation.

After a pause, she asked, "Julian’s illness, he’s still hiding it from his family, right?"

Josiah Sutton raised his eyebrows but didn’t deny it.

Scarlett Shaw: "Since he doesn’t want to tell his family, there’s no need for to let him know. Wanting to be with him is my own desire, and if he doesn’t want to speak about it, I’m sure he has his own worries and considerations. I won’t force him, nor let him find out."

Josiah Sutton asked no more questions, straightforwardly exchanging contact information with Scarlett Shaw.

"You’re two years younger than Zoe. You don’t need to be formal with . Just call Josiah."

Scarlett Shaw didn’t stand on ceremony, her eyes curving as she said, "Thanks, Josiah."

Josiah Sutton smiled faintly: "Julian is upstairs in the neurosurgery departnt."

As he finished speaking, a nurse approached, reminding Josiah Sutton that it was almost ti for his surgery preparations, so Scarlett Shaw didn’t disturb him any further. After saying goodbye, she began making her way upstairs.

Before entering his office, Josiah Sutton took another glance at Scarlett Shaw’s small figure disappearing into the distance.

A nurse nearby casually asked, "Dr. Sutton, is she your girlfriend?"

Josiah Sutton smiled: "Her boyfriend is much more accomplished than , besides, she’s not my type."

"Really?" The nurse was surprised. "She’s visited several tis, and she was here early again today, waiting for almost two hours."

Josiah Sutton’s smiling eyes froze, "What did you say?"

Nurse: "She often cos secretly to see you. And a few tis, your handso friend was here too."
