...
On the vast wasteland, rolling like a tide, a massive Corpse Mountain was crashing towards a steel city wall at a breathtaking speed.
As the Corpse Tide neared the range of the steel city wall, dark gun barrels imdiately extended from the tal bricks within the wall, spewing forth angry smoke in an instant!
Hot cartridge casings fell, and a dense rain of bullets turned the Corpse People surging up from the desert into minced at; however, the Corpse People still kept coming one after another, as if they had sensed the breath of countless living people behind the steel city wall. To these creatures wandering the desert, that was the sweetest source of water; they were thirsty, they were frenzied...
One wave of the Corpse Tide finally ceased, and the entire steel city wall turned a fiery red from overheating, appearing from a distance like a fla giant dragon sprawled across this waste desert, with the endless Corpse People indistinguishable from sand worms.
Above the wall, squads of warriors clad in silver armor patrolled, decisively striking whenever mutated Corpse People leapt up, ensuring no Corpse People harassed the Oasis City behind the steel wall.
On the western mountains, Wu Hen, Guo Hong, and Lu Xian had just escaped from the Corpse Tide, taking a rare opportunity to rest.
"That over there is the Oasis City. Even the fearso Corpse Tide would find it hard to cross that Heroic Wall," Guo Hong said, pointing towards the ridges glowing with red light in the distance.
Wu Hen looked carefully and saw that the ridges were flat and vast, essentially a steel fortress that erupted from the ground. Even for Alien Species that had evolved to the pyramid's apex, breaching it would not be an easy task.
"But what do we do now? There are wave after wave of Corpse Tides between us, and we are now like standing on an island surrounded by the Corpse Tide, unable to retreat," Lu Xian said.
Wu Hen, relying on his Eighth-Rank Life, decided to test his firepower upon seeing a surge of Corpse People.
Little did he know that the Corpse People ca wave after wave, forming a very exaggerated Corpse Tide, with everything within ten kiloters made up of these Corpse People that required no energy supply.
Before long, the three of them were surrounded by the Corpse People, and their direction was completely lost.
Surrounded on all sides by those ugly, disgusting, and terrifying Corpse People, it was impossible to know where they were amidst the ten-kiloter radius of Corpse People; even after struggling out for a kiloter or two, they would doubt whether they were crossing the Corpse Tide or not and be forced to change direction...
Thus, they kept spinning in this ten-kiloter range of the Corpse Tide, never finding the thinnest part of the wall of Corpse People, while the Corpse Tide kept moving. They were like the wild beasts on the African savannas, imdiately moving on to other places after gnawing all the edible resources in one area.
This added to the difficulty for the three trapped in the Corpse Tide.
The only consolation was that although this batch of Corpse Tide had a large number, their evolution was not advanced; otherwise, with the ti they had fallen into the Corpse Tide, they would have been gnawed to the bone.
The observant Lu Xian finally spotted a stone mountain peak standing tall among the Corpse Tide.
To confirm their direction out of the Corpse Tide, they climbed onto the mountain peak without delay.
Corpse People didn't like climbing mountains; they certainly preferred to walk on level ground, and they would choose to go downhill whenever possible. Therefore, this mountain peak was the only quiet place amidst the sea of Corpse People, allowing Wu Hen and his companions ti to replenish ammunition, cool their weapons, and catch their breath.
"Thank goodness, we're not far from the Oasis City. We never expected to be trapped in the Corpse Tide for days, and it actually pushed us towards this Oasis City," Guo Hong said.
"Then you have to thank for getting us a ride on this following Wind Spirit," Wu Hen chuckled, trying to cover his previously arrogant behavior with his sense of humor.
Guo Hong and Lu Xian had to admit that Wu Hen's combat power was indeed fierce. They followed him for countless circles in the Corpse Tide and even beca familiar with so of the Small Elite Corpses within it, and still managed to survive quite well.
This would not have been possible for other Gold Seekers who, the mont they were engulfed by the Corpse Tide, could have swallowed their guns to commit suicide; otherwise, you would have to watch each part of your body be chewed in the mouths of the Corpse People.
"Lu Xian, make sure of our direction; we must reach the Oasis before twilight," Guo Hong said.
"This ti there won't be any mistakes. Previously we were always inside the vortex of the Corpse Tide, which made it difficult for us to find a way to ascend," Lu Xian said.
The Corpse Tide was terrifying, not to ntion riding a helicopter at this mont would ensure a safe spectacle of these Corpse People that could only wreak havoc on land.
When there are enough Corpse People, they would create an invisible vortex force in the area, stirring the space above their heads and swirling down to the ground below.
All flying devices, all flying creatures, even a teor that accidentally streaked across the sky, would be affected by this Corpse Tide Vortex Force and crash down.
"We're running out of Condensation Liquid; if our weapons overheat again, we might have to fight these Corpse People barehanded," Guo Hong grimly said while checking the gear.
"In that case, the weaponry of the Black Deacon Corps seems pretty advanced; they don't really need to worry about this heat overload issue," Wu Hen said.
"Yes, once we get to Oasis City, our weapons can evolve significantly, gaining more superpowers," Lu Xian said.
"We've also obtained tons of Mutant Condensed Liquid, so we're indeed quite wealthy."
"It's about ti to leave, let's get to Oasis City before dusk. I also want to take a bath; our current sll isn't much better than these Corpse People," Wu Hen said.
Guo Hong and Lu Xian tacitly nodded in agreent—they indeed hadn't had the chance to tidy up their appearances during the journey.
...
Atop the mighty walls of Oasis, a man wearing an Iron Officer's coat stood at the edge of the wall, observing the movent of the Corpse Tide through a telescope.
"Commander, those three Corpse Kings on the mountain to the west have started moving; they might reach us by dusk. This will be the fiercest wave of the Corpse Tide attack we have to face today!"
At that mont, the man in the Iron Officer's coat imdiately turned the telescope towards the mountain and indeed, the three humanoid Corpse Kings initially spotted were no longer there.
"Corpse Kings??" A woman's voice ca from beside him, wearing a Holy Priest Robe, her figure graceful, and a Light Crown upon her head.
"Yes, Taiya Temple Concubine, although our weapons in Oasis City are advanced, they fall short when it cos to dealing with Corpse Kings, and there might even be situations where they beco ineffective. We might need your assistance later on to cope with those three Twilight Corpse Kings," said the Commander in the Iron Officer's coat.
"On what basis do you make this claim?" The woman known as Taiya inquired.
"Your Highness, Temple Concubine, we have been battling this large wave of the Corpse Tide for several days. They are not as foolish as the previous Corpse Tides we have encountered. They even know to take advantage of the period when our weapons overheat to launch a more ferocious offensive, and they let those hard-core corpses with highly mutated flesh charge at the front, like an army of Corpse People that have already mastered certain combat strategies. Only Corpse Kings can command and manipulate the behavior of Corpse People... Not long ago, our n observed three figures on the mountain peak to the west, standing high above, with Corpse People gathered beneath them like a grand army. Combining this with the Corpse People's previous attack thods, we determined those three figures on the heights were indeed Corpse Kings," the Commander in the Iron Officer's coat stated with conviction.
"Your analysis makes sense. I haven't seen a Corpse King in many years. Given that, it is indeed ti I should intervene," Taiya nodded her head.
Her gaze involuntarily swept across the massive Corpse Tide; their grotesque and ugly forms gave her an intense sense of dread, causing this apprentice temple concubine to feel physically ill. She suppressed the feeling of her skin crawling and with a firm look, set her eyes towards the distant mountain peak.
She could handle the Corpse Kings...
No matter how strong or formidable these Corpse Kings were.
But when it ca to the Corpse Tide, she felt she might faint.
She had a fear of clusters!
Standing atop these steel city walls, she was already on the verge of vomiting, let alone later when she must go out and fight them.
"I... I will only deal with the Corpse Kings," said Taiya.
"Don't worry, we will clean up those little mongrels," the Commander in the Iron Officer's coat assured her as he shouldered the super amount cannon and fired towards the dense wave of the Corpse Tide below.
"Commander, those three Corpse Kings are extraordinarily ferocious; they even attack their own Corpse soldiers to instill fear throughout the entire Corpse Tide!" the observer imdiately reported.
Corpse Aura spread, and even with their precise instrunts, they could not clearly see the scene in the distance.
All they could see was the three Corpse Kings' brutal supervisory tactics; after killing a swath of idle Corpse People, the entire Corpse Tide accelerated, rushing towards the walls of Oasis City with renewed vigor.
The Corpse Tide surged forward, so of the Corpse People had evolved wings, and although the Corpse Tide vortex limited their altitude of flight, they didn't need to climb the Heroic Wall and could directly attack the Oasis Warriors above!
The Oasis Warriors imdiately leaped into the fray, most of them like fully ard cha Knights, wielding cold weapons that had been technologically transford.
The greatest advantage of cold weapons is not having to worry about ammunition and cooling down. These Oasis Knights primarily dealt with the endless Corpse Tide, and as long as they had abundant stamina, they could fight continuously.
There were also plenty of warriors with firearms, mostly shooting from the battlents on top of the wall. The battlents were like iron cages, enclosing them safely inside, with gun barrels sticking out through the gaps. Even if suddenly surrounded by Corpse People, they didn't have to worry about being devoured.
"Your Highness, Taiya, the Corpse Kings are getting close, we cannot let them approach the Heroic Wall, or else our city's defense weapons will be massively ineffective," said the Commander in the Iron Officer's coat.
Taiya Temple Concubine bit her red lips, having no choice but to wave her hand in indication.
Soon after, a group of Knights dressed in Green Gold Armor appeared around her, each enveloped in a powerful aura as they landed amidst the Corpse People and forcefully tore open a gap in the Corpse Tide.
With the gap created, Taiya Temple Concubine, protected by other Green Gold Knights, made her descent. Despite half-closing her eyes, no Corpse People could co near her; they were all ushered to the beyond by her Green Gold Knights. All she needed to do was to keep moving forward while enduring the nausea, to cleanse and burn away the Corpse Kings so she could return to bathe in the warm Flower Petal Temple Pool...
