803: Chapter 796: The More You Try to Hide, the More You Reveal 803: Chapter 796: The More You Try to Hide, the More You Reveal A dreamless night passed, and when Luo’er opened his eyes the next morning, Fulajie’er, who had been lying beside the bed, had already vanished.
He yawned and got up, only to realize he was the last one to wake up.
By then, Feng had also disappeared, probably gone to watch over Eve and her brother next door.
Hu Daoke sat by the table near the window, pressing down on a coin, playing a guessing ga with Fulajie’er.
“Heads or tails?” Hu Daoke pressed down on the coin and asked Fulajie’er, who was floating in front of him.
“Tails!” Fulajie’er drifted back and forth anxiously, then stared at his palm with diminishing confidence.
“Wrong, it’s heads!” Hu Daoke lifted his hand, boasting triumphantly.
“Ah, I guessed wrong again!” Fulajie’er let out a wail of disappointnt.
“What are you guys up to?” Luo’er climbed out of bed and approached the table to ask.
Since his realm had not co into contact with Fulajie’er’s, he actually couldn’t hear what Fulajie’er was saying.
“Nothing much, just playing a ga to pass the ti,” Hu Daoke smiled.
Seeing Luo’er approaching, he put away the coin.
“Did you hear the ruckus outside last night?” Luo’er pulled up a chair and sat down, then looked at Hu Daoke to ask.
“Huh, there were noises last night?” Hu Daoke asked with a shocked expression.
“Of course, there were,” Fulajie’er flew onto Luo’er’s shoulder, and then glared at him indignantly, “You snored all night long yesterday!”
“Er, well, you know, I didn’t do it on purpose, I really can’t control it, and if you guys think it’s noisy, then I’ll talk to the owner later and get a separate room to sleep in,” Hu Daoke scratched his head, saying awkwardly.
“Fulajie’er,” Luo’er gave her a reproachful look, then turned back and comforted, “It’s okay, you didn’t bother us.”
“Boss, we’re at this point in our relationship, just point it out if you think I have a problem.
Don’t just indiscriminately tolerate everything.
It’s not good for you, and it makes uncomfortable too,” Hu Daoke said earnestly.
“I’m not just tolerating you,” Luo’er smiled and waved his hands, then seriously added, “You almost led off-topic there, I’m asking if you heard gunshots?”
“Gunshots,” Hu Daoke pondered, then frowned, and hesitantly said, “Well, you see, I was dreaming while sleeping, dreaming that we were surrounded by enemies who took potshots at us, so I kept hearing intermittent gunshots…”
“Looks like you heard them too,” Luo’er nodded and said.
“What, did soone co to trouble us last night?” Hu Daoke looked at Luo’er nervously to ask.
“No, it wasn’t that,” Luo’er shook his head and then said earnestly, “I think it was probably the Booze Ghost Gang.”
“Wait, were the Booze Ghost Gang trying to sneak attack us while we were resting?” Hu Daoke asked.
“Not really, they were just jumping around and causing a ruckus at the street corner, occasionally firing a couple of shots,” Luo’er said.
“What’s with the Booze Ghost Gang not sleeping at night and prancing around on the streets?” Hu Daoke asked.
“I guess they were trying to intimidate us,” Luo’er mused.
“Trying to scare us?” Hu Daoke asked.
“Yeah,” Luo’er nodded, then analyzed, “Right now, the Hound Gang and the Booze Ghost Gang are fiercely engaged in battle and are at a disadvantage.
Since we took the initiative to approach, Azita is probably wondering if he can gain so advantage from us.”
“Then why are they sending people to parade in the streets late at night?
Could it be that they don’t want us to sleep?” Hu Daoke asked, blinking.
Clearly, Hu Daoke’s brain only flickered with intermittent sparks of insight; most of the ti, he was in a brute’s state of mind, with half of his thoughts muddled.
However, Luo’er didn’t care because he only needed soone to listen to his views, not necessarily for soone to analyze and consult with him.
“I don’t think so,” Luo’er shook his head, patiently explaining, “I’m just assuming that when he cos to us, he’ll probably tell us that the Booze Ghost Gang has already fought its way to our streets.
Thus, for the sake of better protecting our safety, he hopes headquarters will be generous and assist them with a batch of weapons and supplies.”
“Damn, they’re looking to squeeze us for benefits!” Hu Daoke couldn’t help but curse upon hearing Luo’er’s assumption.
“It’s understandable, after all, the Hound Gang is indeed in a bad situation.
Although neither headquarters nor I think we should support Azita in controlling the underground forces of Holy Heart City, if soone could slow down the CIA’s establishnt in Holy Heart City and give them so trouble, I think it would be excellent,” Luo’er said.
“So, are we planning to give them a hand?” Hu Daoke asked.
“Yes,” Luo’er nodded, “At the very least, we have to protect Azita until we leave Holy Heart City.
Otherwise, if the Hound Gang gets defeated by the Booze Ghost Gang, our situation will also turn sour.”
“No matter what, I’ll do as you say, boss.
I’ll follow your lead,” Hu Daoke said.
“I’ll write a letter to headquarters first to ask for their opinion, so that we’ll know what to expect when Azita cos to us,” Luo’er mused.
“If headquarters agrees, where are we going to get the weapons from?” Hu Daoke asked a key question.
“Hmm…” Luo’er thought about it and found himself stumped by Hu Daoke’s question.
He too didn’t know where to source a bunch of weapons to help Azita.
Firstly, they definitely couldn’t go directly through Blaiqi’s channels to purchase weapons because the business intelligence networks were interlinked.
If they could get information from here, the CIA could just as well learn of their weapon purchases.
If the two showed their faces, they might find the CIA at their doorstep imdiately.
What’s more, the CIA had not yet fully confird whether Eve was in the hands of the Advance Team.
If they were to learn that Eve had already been captured by headquarters, they would definitely resort to more extre asures to eliminate her at all costs, and then the problem would really escalate.
Luo’er thought about whether they could score so weapons from the black market, but if he rembered correctly, a few years back, the Advance Team had exposed a major arms smuggling case, leading to a significant decline in the quality of black market weapons in Holy Heart City.
Now, a semi-automatic rifle could fetch a high price, not to ntion those more advanced assault rifles.
In the complex urban environnt, a lengthy bolt-action rifle wasn’t much more effective than a sword, so many people might prefer to use swords instead of bolt-action rifles.
In a sense, they had shot themselves in the foot, but there was no helping it.
“It’s troubleso, but let’s not worry about that.
Let’s first get the opinion from headquarters.
They might not agree to support Azita anyway,” Luo’er shook his head.
“If headquarters doesn’t agree, how are we going to leave here?
Azita is not soone to be trifled with,” Hu Daoke said, looking at him.
“We’ll just break out,” Luo’er shrugged, “If push cos to shove, they might not be able to do anything about us.
Moreover, if they fall out with us, the conquest of Holy Heart City by the Hound Gang becos even more distant.
I reckon he’ll weigh his options.”
Luo’er’s confidence ca from having Feng and Fulajie’er, his two ace cards.
With them around, he felt he could walk sideways through Holy Heart City; the only concern was probably the military presence in Holy Heart City.
After all, escalating the issue to a national level, even if it was just the level of an Otherworld nation, would tarnish their international reputation.
Now, Luo’er felt his thoughts were a bit muddled, completely lacking direction.
He thought about getting Eve out of the city and delivering her to headquarters, while also feeling that her role might not be that important, so maybe he could wait for Cheng Ziang’s news.
He wanted to play both hands but felt lost.
If his determination was firr, he should be thinking about how to get Eve out of the city now.
But he kept thinking about waiting for the Advance Team to regroup before making a decision, so he could only keep wandering around Holy Heart City.
