50: Chapter 46: Otherworld Gate 50: Chapter 46: Otherworld Gate Luo’er and Tangmo nestled intimately together, like a couple in love, occasionally whispering playful sweet nothings.
However, Luo’er never let down his guard to their surroundings.
Whenever he had the chance, he would stealthily scan the area to ensure there was no danger.
He looked up and saw an advertising drone hovering overhead.
He narrowed his eyes and distinctly saw the cara on the drone.
He knew it was a surveillance drone disguised as an advertising drone.
He glanced around and noticed there were a lot of suspicious-looking people in dark clothes scattered around them.
These were undercover agents planted by the headquarters to intervene in case of ergencies.
Seeing such thorough surveillance asures, Luo’er felt rather reassured, and began to chat casually with Tangmo.
“Luo’er, when we get to the otherworld, can we still be a couple?” Tangmo nestled on Luo’er’s arm, looking up at him, she asked.
“Sis, we’re going to fight a war, not to fall in love.” Luo’er replied sowhat helplessly.
“Hmm, so you don’t like ?” Tangmo asked, staring at him.
“Well, it’s not that I don’t like you, but we should be clear about the situation.” Luo’er didn’t know what to say in response to Tangmo’s candid question, and he found himself suddenly lost for words.
“When the war is over, after we get back to Earth, will you marry ?” she asked, pressing him relentlessly.
“Let’s, let’s talk about it then.
What if, what if I die in action.” Luo’er began to get nervously.
“If you die,” Tangmo’s expression imdiately darkened, and she spoke in a small voice, “I would be very, very, very, very, very upset.”
Luo’er was taken aback.
This was the first ti he’d heard soone express such concern for him.
A wave of warmth washed over him, and he spoke softly, “Thanks for caring about .”
“Of course, Luo’er cares so much about everyone, he needs care from others too!” Tangmo leaned on his arm, her eyes half closed as she spoke.
“When the battle is over, when we return to Earth, if, we still admire each other, then…” Hesitating for a mont, Luo’er plucked up courage, just about to finish the sentence, when a transmission from his earpiece cruelly interrupted him.
“Alert for Luo’er’s group, the situation has changed, two patrols are approaching you, be ready to evade.” A hurried voice ca from the earpiece.
Luo’er looked up, two Australian patroln dressed in police uniforms were walking towards them, clearly they had targeted them.
“What’s wrong, Luo’er?” Tangmo looked up and asked.
“Sothing’s not right.
Do as I say, understand?” Luo’er said quietly.
“Okay, I understand!” Tangmo nodded sensibly.
“Turn!” Luo’er, not manifesting any change in his facial expression, hugged Tangmo and turned towards another direction.
He didn’t dare to turn back to look at those two patroln, but he knew soone was keeping an eye on them for him.
“Alert for Luo’er’s group, those two patrol officers are still tailing you.
They have targeted you.”
Luo’er gritted his teeth, he didn’t even dare to operate his communicator.
Just burrowing his head, he hugged Tangmo and accelerated his pace.
“Alert for Luo’er’s group, they’ve quickened their pace, prepare for a confrontation, stay calm!” More bad news ca from his earpiece.
“Hey, you two!” The patroln behind them shouted in English.
Luo’er didn’t look back, he just walked on with Tangmo in his arms.
“Hey, you two, stop!” The two patroln yelled again, standing behind them, they made a gun-drawing gesture.
“Luo’er.” Tangmo tugged at his clothes nervously.
Luo’er glanced at her and finally stopped.
He then turned around, taking off his earpiece but leaving his hood on.
“May I help you, officer?” The mont Luo’er opened his mouth, the two officers realised sothing was wrong.
His sowhat unpolished English was tinged with a strange Russian accent.
Russians are not popular in the West, and the sa is true in Australia.
But in Ulysses City, due to the presence of Russian forces, the Russians who travel there are quite bold, causing trouble is a norm.
Besides expulsion, the police can do little about them, hence, the sight of a Russian often gives them a headache.
Luo’er looked exactly like a Westerner and, after being made-up and his hair dyed a light color, the two officers did not doubt him when he spoke English with a Russian accent.
“May we check your IDs, sir?” an officer asked politely.
“Of course!” Luo’er replied, offering a smile as he handed over their prepared identification docunts.
“Mr.
Vladimir Makarov!” the two officers exchanged glances.
They hadn’t expected to deal with a troubleso Russian, which gave them so pause.
“She…” one officer nodded towards Tangmo, who was shyly nestled against Luo’er, and frowned, asking, “Chinese?”
“Nonono!
Japanese!” Luo’er waved his hands, handing over Tangmo’s passport.
Still frowning, the officer took Tangmo’s passport and gave it a glance.
To be safe, he scanned the passport with a detection device which confird her information as being a woman from Kyushu, Japan.
The two shared another glance.
They had been assigned a task that very morning by the police station to specifically investigate foreign tourists.
After finally finding these two, they couldn’t find a single issue.
Just when they wondered whether to preliminarily question the pair at the station, a woman’s scream echoed down the street.
A scruffy vagrant was seen clutching a lady’s purse, weaving rapidly through the chaotic crowd.
One officer shouted and gave chase, while the other glanced at his partner and the duo.
Finally, he returned the duo’s identification and raced after his partner, chasing after the vagrant.
Luo’er could tell that this was a diversion created by undercover agents from headquarters.
Because when the officer approached the robbed woman, he was t with an imperious scolding rather than an anxious plea for help.
The woman, who evidently bore so Caucasian lineage, pointed accusingly at the officers demanding they catch the vagrant imdiately or she’ll have the matter escalated to the departnt of foreign affairs.
The officer, overwheld, was trying to pacify the woman from an unknown country as he prayed that his partner could apprehend the damned vagrant soon.
They had barely moved a few steps forward when they were surrounded by several n in sunglasses.
The lead man gestured them to follow, guiding them forward while the others dispersed around the periter for security.
The closer they got to the Otherworld Gate, the more noticeable the peculiar sensations in their bodies beco.
Luo’er knew this was the effect of the magic energy emanating from the Otherworld Gate.
The magical energy flowed along their ridians, delivering an indescribable feeling.
Earthlings, however, could not sense this magic.
As their bodies could not channel the magic, they would instead feel vague discomfort, particularly when they approach the Otherworld Gate.
They would feel slightly breathless and bloated, but it didn’t affect their state overly much and no one paid it much mind.
Luo’er and Tangmo looked up at the magnificent Otherworld Gate.
From this close up, they could truly appreciate the grandeur of the structure originating from the Otherworld.
Intricate and complex runes were engraved over the towering stone gate.
Its barrier resembled a vertical water surface, occasionally stirring faint ripples.
Luo’er rembered the first ti he and his father traveled through the Otherworld Gate when Ulysses City didn’t exist yet, and United Nations forces encamped in all directions around the gate.
They were covertly escorted onto a vehicle by fully ard soldiers, who maintained staunch postures amid the odd glances from servicen of other nations.
The vehicle took them to the nearest military airport, from where they boarded a transport plane straight back ho.
Now, the Otherworld Gate was surrounded by buildings, with the Australian governnt setting up customs office here in charge of verifying traders between Earth and Otherworld.
Generally, Otherworlders are incapable of adapting to Earth’s magic-deprived environnt.
Thus, Earthlings were the predominant ones trading in Otherworld.
But there were also those from Otherworld conducting businesses on Earth, particular those with high magic resistance, for whom the existence or absence of magic had a much lesser effect on than those with low magic resistance.
As they were ushered in by the crowd, the duo entered the grand customs hall leading to the Otherworld Gate.
Instead of going through the inspection channel directly, they were guided by the man to a secluded entry point that wasn’t open for public.
The immigration officer stationed there must have been prearranged, as he showed no surprise at the sight of the group.
Arriving at the entry point while the man negotiated with the immigration officer, Luo’er looked back to check on everyone.
As he turned around, he saw Baiyue approaching in a hooded sweatshirt, hands in pockets.
Not far away were Cheng Ziang and Hu Daoke.
Cheng Ziang was dressed smartly and strolled leisurely upfront, and the tall and burly Hu Daoke, donned in suit, bringing up the rear carrying a pull-along suitcase with a disgruntled face.
The fact that everyone actually made it successfully surprised Luo’er, while also easing his mind.
Just then, a few unwelco guests entered the hall.
They were dressed in suits, wearing sunglasses, and began to scan the room as soon as they entered.
One man raised his collar and whispered, “Team A, take note, the enemy has appeared in the hall.
Delay them and buy us ti.”
“Team A copies!” a voice from the earpiece replied.
Quickly, Australian officers surrounded the n dressed in black and began questioning them.
The n in black were annoyed by the disturbances caused by the police and physically confronted them.
“Let’s go!” the man leading successfully completed his negotiation and signaled, following which the immigration officers opened the entry point and let the group in.
Standing just a few ters away from the Otherworld Gate were Luo’er and others.
Tangmo, stunned by the shimring barrier, felt an inexplicable fear and grabbed Luo’er’s arm nervously.
Luo’er opened her hand and interlaced his fingers with hers.
His reassuring gesture cald Tangmo.
He turned to look at Tangmo, and then at Baiyue, before reaching out his hand.
After a mont’s hesitation, Baiyue nodded and accepted his help, seizing his hand.
Luo’er, with the two girls in tow, turned back to Cheng Ziang and others, saying, “Follow !”
With that, he pulled the two won towards the Otherworld Gate.
Gathering his courage, Luo’er took a step forward, and the trio’s bodies seamlessly lted into the barrier, without causing a ripple.
